I personally think that the original portrayl in the ending of the series is the best to watch, but I think it's necessary to watch the movie as well. I'll never do it again, but it was necessary.

hmmm the ending in the series was kinda weird, psychadelic and a bit confusing....

The film didn't clear things up... it just provided a different ending.

The directors comments (at least the english version) cleared up most of the mysteries IMHO. Although I did like that mini-episode thingie whatever you call it in the last episode

End of Eva really confused me. I didn't get to see the English commentary because I was quickly watching at a friends house. I personally don't see what was so wrong with the series ending. At least in that one Shinji wasn't acting too crazy.

The sort of perfect world that instrumentality creates, yeah that was neat.

I really like them both, the one that was part of the seires was more of an ending where you had to work out what happened for yourself, but since there wasn't a choice of both I chose the movie.
Watching Auska vs the white eva's rocked

Before I had seen the end of the series, I asked my friend, "So what happens? Is it one of those Animes where the world's destroyed at the end?" He responded perfectly and said, "I don't think it really matters." I had no earthly idea what he could mean by that until I saw both endings. The main point of the series is that Shinji overcomes Human Instrumentality. The actual physical events are of vastly less import. I really didn't enjoy watching what happened in End of Eva, but I always clap along when Shinji earns his "Congratulations." My vote goes with the series.

What about the ending in the N64 game?

I don't know anything about it, but a mate of mine was crying over the phone and was like "It's the way it should have been" between sobs.

I think I might just get an N64 for the express purpose of playing NGE 64 to see that ending.

EDIT : Sorry - I haven't gotten my fix of ???-eine in the morning, so . . . I've not watched either ending because I've heard how . . . bleh, as I guess I'm over my Eva-craze, I'll watch them as soon as I get back.

The end of the serie was better.

It finish saying what is the Human Instrumentaly Project. It is a final to you think more , it is more Evangelion style. The movie was great too. There was some parts that I wanted to cry, but that was more action that showed what the people want to see, the fights, and not the filosophy ( i think it is how you write it).
I love Evangelion( see my avatar), there are only one serie better than it. Angel Sanctuary. All the others that I saw, no one was so perfect as Evangelion was.

Angel Sanctuary better than eva? Hell, it is the sickest shit I've ever seen Oo;

And the film was just like the series. Action, philosophy and a naked Rei

you will atleast watch the directors cut when it comes out?

It's already out. There is nothing of substance added in either Director's Cut DVD.

EDIT:

The TV ending is so superior it isn't even funny.

What about "Death & Rebirth?" It doesn't count as an ending?

No, it's just a recap of the series + the beginning of End of Eva (Air)

the bit with the string quartet is brilliant, all the classical music fits in perfectly with the character recap. Bring on Pacabells cannon

the series ending was harder to understand, it wasn't clear for me.. but then, I still liked it more than EoE

There are many who say the same of the film, to this day I remain convinced Anno himself didnt know exactly what was goin on by the end of it all and made it deliberatly a bit vague

actually, there wasn't supposed to be a movie in the first place, but because in japan that the series ending aired soo badly, that the creators had to make a movie to make the series end better. <or so i was told by my japanese friend informants...> but yah...i like the movie, there's ACTION NESSSSSSS and asuka recovers and yeah ~!

Did I say it was out already? Yes, I did. It is. Do you need a photograph of me holding both discs or what, kid?

EDIT:

The TV ending is perfectly scripted and drawn, self-contained, and resolves the series in a proper manner. The movie (and the TV ending, for that matter, but this is the movie's ONLY function) is clearly just a big middle finger to the juvenile fans watching only for "teh gaints robotzz!!!11one".

Someone told me Anno got a nervous breakdown during the second season, and that's why the series end the way they did.

The Platinum Disc 1 release date is July 27th. The Platinum Set is NOT the Director's Cut. It's the remastered series from the recent rerelease in Japan.

I OWN both Director's Cut discs. They were both released MONTHS ago. Look it up yourself, son...

It was somewhere around the mid point of Evangelion that he went off his anti-depressants from what I've read so its possible

There was something that I read a while ago on a site that said something about him writing an anti-suicide letter, sounds like it was shortly after that happened,
I'm looking for the article at the moment, if I find it I'll edit this post to include the link

Now, I COULD respond by telling you to go to Amazon, or Rightstuf, or ADV themselves, and find out that you're wrong, but why?

This is what the kids today get when they trust the Internet over real people.

EDIT: As for Angelic, I wrote that in there as a joke to indentify the picture as clearly being one I took and not a stock photo. Yow. Talk about uppity.

the movie. the original series cleared up the emotional state of all the characters but it was EoE that really moved me... espesially that scene with asuka after all that effort loses.... so sad
