A violin, I always wanted to play a violin as my main instrument. Instead I play the stupid piano!

Well, I think I would have been better off with a wind instrument, like a clarinet or a trumpet, than the keyboard I use now, or maybe a violin, given that I'm very small and a keyboard is bulky. In truth, anything acoustic would probably be good as my keyboard doesn't really do a very good simulation of most sounds.

Keilwerth SX-90 Tenor Saxophone with adjustable palm keys! This horn sang for me when i played it in the music shop.

YES!!! SOMEONE THAT KNOWS WHAT A PIC TRUMPET IS!!

And it's an awsome instrument. So long as you can handle the back pressure that happens when playing. The pressure an above the staff C on a normal trumpet all the time. Guarenteed headache after the first time you play it!

On another note: it sucks when you have to play a low C below the staff, majorly.

Hmm, I think figured out my dream instrument: the pipe organ. Now there's an awesome instrument.

Yeah, it's my dream to eventually build a shed which would house a pipe-organ in my back yard. I really love organs and organ music.

I know there are better cellos in the world, but I'm a big fan of the one I own. She's Italian and around 100 years old. When I told one of my friends how much I bought it for, he said, "Wait. You spent that much on a used instrument?" In case you didn't know, the sound quality improves dramatically the longer it's been around. I really do wish I had a better bow though. A nice, heavy, German, octagonal bow. I'm drooling.

You can, though I wouldn't recommend it. Try to look up instructions on how to hold the instrument and practice holding it often when you do get one, because if you start out holding it incorrectly and no one corrects you it will be very difficult to hold it correctly if holding it incorrectly is a habit for you.

As for my dream instrument, right now I want a flute.. Which I will be getting next week. :)

Mine is the guitar (which I already play!) and the keyboard.

"You mean the piano?"

No, the keyboard. Like Jordan Rudess, I suggest you go and admire some of his work here:

http://www.jordanrudess.com/mediagallery.shtml

Example:

Or, simply listen to Dream Theater or Liquid Tension Experiment.

Purely for the sake of collectability I want a Reproduction Alma-Tadema Grand Piano. In 1997, the original sold at auction for US$1.2 million and, new, the repro. goes for US$650,000 (http://www.steinway.com/steinway/legendary_collection.shtml), or any one of their other Artcase pianos. Or, even though I don't play guitar, I would also like a 1967 Gibson EB-0 (like the [red] one in FLCL ep 6, or there's also one in the PS2 game Guitar Hero).

For playability I would like either a Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand or a Kawai EX 9' concert grand (and the space for it in my home). If could, I'd have one custom built in a high-gloss white finish.

And enough with the high squeeky things in the front of the orchestra!! I also play Double Bass.

I want a 4/4 scale carved-wood DB--which could go for at least US$30,000--and a mastercrafted snakewood bow. Snakewood is heavier than pernambuco and therefore gives a much nicer tone on the bass, however for the same reason it is also much more difficult to carve and also is less-common (or more rare) than pernambuco, therefore, a basic snakewood bow usually costs around US$1500, while a mastercrafted one can easily top US$4000.

And, for the person that mentioned the contrabass flute, in case you did not know there is a such thing as a hyper-bass flute. It is eight feet long and its lowest note is tuned to C0 (a sixth below the lowest note on the piano). There is only one in existance and its lowest note, C0, is below the range of human hearing. I believe there's a picture of it on wikipedia, you'll have to find it yourself, I'm feeling being lazy right now.

Strad, of course. Nothing less. :P Although there are some very fine German violins that would be quite lovely. Mine's a Glass, made somehere in the 19th century, I believe. Not a bad bit of wood... it serves as my dream instrument at the moment, being under $10,000.

Oh, and probably a French bow of some type. They seem to be the best at bow making; I prefer even my inexpensive (only $600!) french bow to the Codas, even though people do ask if it's a viola bow because of the rounded frog.

The koto is oddly reminiscent of the guzheng. Now that is something I'd love to play. Or the pipa or erhu.. Or laruan, since it's pretty much like the cello. Hell, it looks pretty sexy too. ..

The koto was derived from the guzheng.. I think they may have a different amount of strings (Wikipedia says: Koto - 13; Guzheng 15-25), tho' models of each could be made with varying amounts of strings (which is actually done quite often), so theoretically a koto could have the same amount of strings as a guzheng. But no, I don't believe there's a real difference between the two, other than one being Chinese and the other Japanese.

The only difference are their tunings. Standard guzheng is tuned to the D pentatonic scale (Do-Re-Mi-So-La), while koto is tuned to various Japanese modes.

This was actually one of my dream instrument when I was younger... But fortunately enough, I got one for fairly cheap and had a teacher. Yet, I kind of gave up learning it when I found out how dreadful it was to do vibratos and tremoli.

Hmm.. There are different sizes of "Grand Pianos." They can range from a small 4 ft. (Baby Grands) to a massive 11 ft. and beyond.

But I wouldn't say there's any that are *literally* bigger than a school room. o.0

Eeeh? Dream instruments? ^_^ I guess I already have my dream instrument. My Trevor J James (flute) with that small plate (right?) in silver. I love it so much. And it's so shiny! My one and only love in my world! Okay, i'm a total nerd... But I got from my mother for the money she had saved up for a new computer to herself (though she didn't need one) about half a year ago, maybe a little more. And I never had a own flute before, even though I've been playing for eleven years by now... :heh:

But a violin would be nice, since I wanna play that... or an upright (a real, not electronic! I hate the sound electonics in general make when it's on) in place of my keyboard which is no good now, when I need pedals (I got a new piano book which cover the use of pedals, so I need that, which my keyboard don't hav) but I guess I can use the grand piano at school... Since it for the use of all students... Though i can't see why we have a grand piano when my school actually are not a music school... Oh well...

Well...if it is a brass instrument or a sax, it should have the brand somewhere along the bell area. As for flutes and other woodwinds, I'm not exactly sure where to look besides the instrument case. Like my Tenor Sax has "Yamaha Allegro" on the front of the case. Maybe if you check out those places you can find out =]

It seems as though I'm getting a Selmer Professional, for it seems the best suited for me (either the $1469 or the $2200). I've tried every single instrument brand, including Buffets (and I'll admit; the Buffet response is the BEST), but there's just some things I don't like about the Buffet R13 and its Greenline counterpart (Professional Model). Buffets are just simply WAY off tune, like 30 cents flat. x_x Plus the Greenline is too "stuffy".

Perhaps you just need to blow harder and change your embouchure to find it fitting. When you choose a professional instrument, it's not you choosing the instrument, it's the instrument choosing you.

However, back on the topic, I would like to add an alto flute and a bass flute to my list of wanted instruments.

I'd like to learn cello, electric guitar, bass guitar, flute, clarinet, drums, ocarina...actually, if I knew how to play every instrument ever made, I'd be happy. I'd also like to be able to sing well...

My Dream instrument is a Soprano Sax. Maybe curved, when I see how big it is. I'm close enough to it playing the Alto Sax.

Nice Taste in instrument, btw. The Soprano Sax has a very nice sound, doesn't it?

oh yeah. I'm a big fan of soprano sax players =]. Even if Kenny G drifts sharp and is very bright, I still respect his playing ability...because it's amazing.

Sigh* if only i could get this...I would sit playing all day. Even random notes being banged sounds like an awesome melody on this piano.

Eh, embouchure wise, it's similar. But, the notes on the sax favors the flute's key system more. At least that's what I say, because when I started playing the sax, pressing the keys were similar to the flutes, but the embouchure was difficult. At the same time, a clarinetist switched to the sax too, she got the embouchure easy, but the fingerings a little hard.

Lol me too. Me and my friend who plays alto with me are like competing for it. Even though, he has, like 5 years under his belt, and I don't even have 1 year down.

I'm like, the only first alto who has been playing a reed instrument for less than a year.

But, I also want to play a piccolo(cause I also play flute for a year(since like 3 days ago)). And maybe trumpet or trombone.

Soprano Saxes are uber sexy though.

Lol. Yea, me and my friend are really wanting to, but I think I'm going to beat her because my dad said that he would buy one for me if I really want to play it, though, I have no idea how the heck he thinks he is going to pay for one. >.<

Sweet. I play the Clarinet, and I've been playing it for almost 6 years.

Ooooo! My best friend plays the flute! She's been playing for 5 years.

Mhm. Mhm. UBER sexy.

I play violin and a Stradivarius violin would be so awesome.... Prolly not gonna happen to me though T_T (from wikipedia-->)A Stradivarius made in the 1680s or during Stradivari's Brescian period from 1690-1700, could be worth several hundred thousand dollars or more at today's prices in auction. If made during Stradivari's "golden period" from 1700 to 1720, depending on condition, the instrument can be worth several million. They rarely come up for sale and the highest price paid for a Stradivarius (or any musical instrument) at public auction was The Hammer, made in 1707, which sold for US$3,544,000 on May 16, 2006

Wow, that's expensive... hehe, i don't think you would be able to own one of those Stradivarius violins
I guess my dream instruments would be either a Yamaha CFIIS or a Steinway D, both of these are concert grand pianos, and by the sound of that i think the cost would be over $100,000.... it would be sooo awesome if i actually owned one

I'm in love with my ocarinas, but they lack range. So I dream of owning and being able to play a triple ocarina. It has three windways, so it'd be difficult to learn, but even more difficult to get.

For those who haven't seen one, look here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITGas0eHE5I Isn't it adorable?

Bigger grand pianos have better response and action than smaller grands imo. I've played on a 9 foot yamaha grand. The action and response was really nice, had more grips on the keys, and mistakes were reduced significantly as opposed to keyboards that try to mimic their feel. So my dream instrument is a concert grand.

So far 2 elements were discussed in this thread, which were Solid and gas. there are 3 more elements also. Plasma, quintessance, and liquid. Here are my second dream instruments. Hydraulophone, Theremin, and plasmaphone.
