Hey,

I'm having trouble trying to draw realistic clothing!
i'm trying to draw lace, but i'm having a hard time making it look real!

I also need to draw the dress attached.

Does anyone have any tips on drawin any type of clothing/material so on? Or even post up some of their own drawings here?

It'll help a lot! Thanks in advance! ^_^

I usually start with the basic shape of the cloth(lace) then start adding small details such as flowers and curly designs. after basic patterns are in, I put that fishnet-looking pattern over it all. Where cloth folds over or under itself I repeat the proccess twice to make an overlayer effect...hehe..uh sorry was that impossible to understand?

My friend wants to get it made, and she wants me to draw it, because the picture isn't that clear. She found it off some lolita dress website.

@gurusoup-Yep thanks for the help! don't worry it does make sense to me!! ^_^

It'll make it easier if you draw in charcoal as not all of it sticks and you can get the shades easier. You could try using some cloth and rub charcoal or carbon onto it to get the natural clothing pattern design on your drawing.

Well......to draw laces you should try practicing doing a line of laces just right doing twist and turn till it looks really enough.also.......hmmmmmmmmmmm:think: when drawing clothes. i start with stick people working from face to feet. but focus on the outfit. For that dress try doing to bottom to up or up to bottom........im not really helping am I.....:heh: Sorry.

Why practice with stick people?

To draw textured cloth I usualy use mechanical pencil for detailing (lace) and a duller, round art pencil for shading. You can make the cloth look like any teaxture based on how you shade it, draw folds and draw the edges. Experiment with fuzzy folds, hard shading and dark lines.

Another thing to look out for is crease lines at the edge of fabric. It tells for thick it is. If you have a short one near the very edge of it, it must be thin. If its far from the edge, thick and long it must be a thicker fabric.
