hi
can anyone teach me how to teach my bro how to not life his fingers when playing piano...he just started and hes sorta getting the hang of it but soemtimes i causes probs like playing 2 notes istead of one coz he has long fingers and so when he lifts his fingers to play one note and then presses down with his other finger the lifted fingers go down and he plays multiple keys which dun sound that good so i was wondering if he can be helped?

You could try just having him hold his hand in the air and try to move each finger up and down by itself, without moving any other part of the hand (the 3rd and 4th fingers will not move very much,but that's OK). Also, make sure his wrists are a little bit above key level (the top of the white keys). If his wrists are below key level, it's a lot harder to control the fingers individually. Finally, make sure his fingers are curved. The shape of the hand should be something like when you cup your hand to scoop up water.

To make sure he's doing all of these, you can put a quarter on the back of his hand and tell him to keep the quarter there as best he can while playing.
