Hi!

I've never colored CG in Photoshop (or any other programs) before, and I want some tips on shadowing and highlighting...

I just can't get how people shade so straightly and realisticly! When I shade in Photoshop, it ends up like a blig blurry blob of colors... Please help me! [especially shading the hair!]

Thanks!

Well I use gimp (im broke and cant afford Photoshop:lol: ) but I hear their very similar... so you can prolly try this (just a random tut I was looking @)

IF not, go to Deviant art and they have a section for tutorials, with a subsection for photoshop..
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/tutorials/ps/?view=1&order=5&limit=24

also checkout pixel2life.com (off the top of my head so I cant say if its good)

BTW I am a Gimp/Photoshop Ub3r n00b so... yah I cant be of much use, someone far more talented will drop by soon.

Well. I don't know if this will help you.
I usually use a "mouse pen", with a normal brush and very low opacity (like 20%).
it can make some nice effects (but you have to paint, repaint and paint and paint for like hours)

For highlighting and shadowing, well.. there's the burn tool and shadow tool. could help too.

Yu mean like a tablet? My brother has one of those but for some reason I cant get used to it. I think its cause I cants ee what im drawing on the tablet, its hard for me to write/draw without looking so it comes out all crapy.

but my bro uses it like a pro, maybe you could look into one of those (its like 20-30 bucks)

for highlighting and shadowing i would recomend just filling in everything with the base colors then using the burn and the shadow tools if u r a beginer. once u get better try shading with darker and lighter colors set on low opacities.

I use GIMP. For shading I put the base color first and then I use the air brush withblck on a very low opacity. It looks blockys at fist so I blur it. Then it blends together.

Shading in Photoshop can be a pain-you can use the blend tool, but it really sucks...you could also try highlighting the area and using a guassian blur, but that takes some skill to get good at. I'd recommend the burn and dodge tool or Painter classic. The opacity controls on the brushes are amazingly easy to get the hang of.
