Has anyone ever used this instrument in their compositions? I've tried, but it just doesn't sound well with any other instruments! It's almost impossible to get it to sound ok on its own... In case you don't know what a Clavichord is, it is an early keyboard instrument that used brass wedges to hit strings and therefore produce a soft sound. It was never used in orchestral pieces because it was too small and quiet to be heard over the other strings. It went extinct basically, because the harpsichord and piano were favored by most famous composers such as Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, and Corelli. But you can still find a few clavichord songs around... Here's what one sounds like, in case you didn't already know. :)

Rofl! Some composers back in the Baroque/Renaissance favored it to the harpsichord, though... I kind of like the bass sounds but up in the treble parts it sounds kind of... weird.

EDIT: Here's a pic. of a clavichord.

Unless if you plan to talk about compositions, then does it really belong here? *points you to "Musical Discussion" forum*
