Here is one of my first Compositions using Finale. I thought it'd be a nice way to introduce myself to the forums. It's not very good, but I hope I'll get advice if I put it up here. Thanks. ^_^
There could be more to come.

Eh, it's not that random- there's recognizable motifs and chord progressions in close proximity to one another. But the overall scope of the piece feels meh in terms of organization. Try to develop your ideas more before moving on to the next - and don't forgot to recall older ideas, either in the form of a recapulation, or further development/metamorphosis.

Yes it is random, just because s/he has a basic structure doesn't make it less random. The notes on the 'main parts' are without a doubt randomly clicked in with Finale.

But there's a whole genre of music dedicated to chance(aleutoric), and this pales by such comparison. I don't think you can really have a "random" melody unless you click away without regard of how it sounds at all.

That depends on how you define "random". In music, to me, it is that you click in notes in Finale and hope people will like it. Like abstract art but sucky. If there's such a thing as a genre which has random music, then I want to stay as far away from it as I can.

Maybe a piece can *sound* random, even though the composer worked hard and thoroughly on it, but it's another thing if the 'composer' obviously don't give it any time or effort at all.

How about this, Nolir. Instead of wasting your breath at saying how sucky my peice is, how about telling me how to make it better, alright. It will get you a lot further in life. Oh, thanks to all of those who actually said something in defense of my peice. You have my graditude.

No, I won't tell you how to make this piece better. For *that* would be me wasting my breath. There is nothing, and I mean nothing in this piece that is worth keeping in a composition, and I mean that in the nicest way. I said one negative thing about this compo - it's random, don't get all defensive... Instead, keep this in mind when working on your next composition.

Alright, thank you for the advice. By the way, you're compositions are pretty awesome ^^

I'm sorry, but that's at best a matter of opinion, at worst undignified ignorance. If you don't like it, then at least say so in a straightforward manner. And there are plenty of worthwhile ideas to further develop on for this piece. If it was a midi file, I'd edit it and show you how easily it'd be to turn these "random" bits of music into a coherant whole.
