I was just fooling around with Sonar3, and I found out that you can make good sounding songs with only you keyboard and imagination. No notation required at all. Plug in your keyboard to your computer, and open up Cakewalk:Sonar3. There you can work and record instrument by instrument, step by step. I did a test, just some improvising, and here's my result. I simply played the instruments one by one with my keyboard.

Damn, that was some nice improvising!

I could never do that, because the program wouldn't be able to interpret everything I play on the keyboard, so it's better for me if I input everything maually.

Was that clapping at the end or the sound fo waves crashing on the beach?

That was a weird crowd-like clapping.

I need to find my midi cables and let my midi adapter do more than just being an extention cord for my gamepad..

Yeah well, Finale won't do any mistakes >.< but with recording, you'll get a more realistic sound, as if there was a real orchestra etc.. depending on how well you play it.

i prefer the instrument by instrument recording over notation... ive been doing it for a while now. tho both have advantages and disadvantages. improv is hella fun ;)
