.mus can be read by Finale NotePad.
In regard to any transpositions into a differently keyed instrument (for instance a Bb trumpet, or any other keyed instrument that NotePad has, like "Horn in F") I have found a great trick you can use with NotePad.
What you do is this:
1. Copy the line that you wish to play with your instrument
2. Create a new file with your instrument in it(with the proper key signature, that is very important)
3. Paste the line into the new line with your instrument's key

There are some other details that you need to look after, such as length, but I think most people can figure it out (that or just start transposing buddy, I'll give you a hint. C for most instruments = your D)

I actually play trumpet myself and use this trick all the time (thank you Ichigo's). The hard part about the songs is getting the chords down so that I can get my rhythm section buddies to play their part.
