I was at Golden Corral the other day. I got a cupcake and accedentally called it a muffin. It raised the question. What's the difference between a cupcake and a muffin? Is it that you put stuff in the muffin and put stuff on the cupcake?

What's an english muffin? A cupcake is like a muffin but with no fruit or anything in side it with icing on top.

But I can tell that's a muffin. A cupcake has to have icing. But that muffin is pretty good lookin.

A cupcake is cake batter in a muffin tin (hence "Cup" + "Cake"). A muffin is a quick bread (meaning it doesn't use Yeast for rising) that is, a little blander than a cupcake, though there are some muffins that are far sweeter than cupcakes out there.

(btw, I'm a baker)

so if thats the case what tastes better a cup cake or a muffin

It's an opinion. It depends if you like sweet things or not (like comparing a cookie to raisins) it's all about taste.

The muffin man is seated at the table in the laboratory of the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen. Reaching for an oversized chrome spoon, he gathers an
intimate quantity of dried muffin remnants and, brushing his scapular aside, proceeds to dump these inside of his shirt. He turns to us and speaks:

Some people like cupcakes better. I for one care less for them!

This conversation just really reminded me of that song from Frank Zappa, ha! But honestly, I think they are the same.
