Does anyone know any good "performance-type" guitar solos? Anime or non-anime is all good (I'd like to play Romance by Yuki Kajiura but then I dunno anyone who does accordion). I'm a guitarist, been playing for a quite a while, dropped it and now trying to recover. I can play Classical Gas (awesome solo) and Romanza (one of the first proper songs I learnt, but its a bit simple), but I dont know any other good guitar songs.... help?

Preston Reed is a pretty damn good Acoustic guitar god.

Vai plays both Acoustic and Electric to perfection. Although, to be fair, you are correct. The bulk of his songs are of the experimental electric variety.

Preston Reed is your man. Perhaps even Justin King and Eric Roche. All a matter of taste.

Lot's place dual. Slash is the most famous (Guns n' Roses fame) as does Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen. Steve Vai plays triple guitars and (I think) Michael Angelo Batio is the only guitarist I know who can play a Quad 4 necked Guitar (as he calls it). But these are all of the electrical variety.

Edit:- Michael Angelo Batio in action (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RHFmfvujTY&search=Michael%20Angelo%20Batio%20speed%20kills)

And for the mods only:
Delete link if it doesn't comply with forum rules

if you're on acoustic i reccomend learning:

Kaki King
Don Ross
Oscar Lopez
Leo Kottke
Laurence Juber
Peter Roller

learning their songs should last you a long time!

*EDIT*
and i also really like michael hedges. you should check him out too.

I think it sounds better on the guitar. doesn't sound as great on the piano I think (I've tried already).

Solos by Led Zeppelin and Metallica are nice sometimes. Stairway to Heaven's solo has a nice melody... ;)

I don't know any good acoustic solos. Most solos in my opinion are just showy general wank, a good solo needs to add to the song. I'm sorry Malmsteen and Vai fans, I find them terrible. So what if they're virtuosos, a lot of their work is just emotionless in my opinion.

The only songs that come to mind immediately are

Radiohead - The Tourist
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Don't agree. But you have the right to your opinion. I just think it's like jazz: you have to learn to appreciate it. And that is by being a guitarist. But I really think it's good...

About the solos... check out Tommy Emmanuel. He's THE acoustic guy in my mind. There's an awesome video of his doing a blues solo on youtube.

Why single out jazz? All music you need to learn to appreciate, no matter how complex. I'm a guitarist as well, albeit not a fantastic one.

Although I don't enjoy Vai's music much, he is fun to watch. Look for that clip where him and Zappa are taking turns on youtube.

Anyone who needs a sampling of great guitar solos shound go get their hands on Funkadelic's album "Maggot Brain", mindblowing stuff.

Can you give us a link to the Zappa/ Vai video? In my opinion Steve Vai is by far the best guitarist in the world. I'm not sure why you think his songs are emotionless because I think otherwise. Almost every song has a special emotion attached to it, especially the Crying Machine, the Animal, for the love of God and the most exceptional Tender Surrender.

But hey, we all are into different things and that is cool. B)

I just feel people tend to overrate him because of his wonderful techincal ability. I've heard much more meaningful songs than his.

Zappa's hands are enormous.
