I remember this song that my dad taught me when I was young (for piano), but I don't remember what the name of it was.

It was "Shores of ____" or something like that.

Bah. I had a midi of the melody that I transcribed, but I can't find it. >.<

When I get back from piano lessons (which will be a couple hours), I'll try to remember to find and upload it.

When asking Google '"shores of" midi' or '"shores of" music', you get some candidates (also in the Groups section). For example: On the Shores of Loch Ness from

And I'm sure you'll find more, but there is not much more you can do (if you would supply the midi however, one could do more (either by chance, or using a service that might recognize the music, for example

(I have never tried that though)
It's also possible that a similar service is available in other parts of the world (I have seen an advertisement for something similar for the place I live at))
And there are a lot of other possibilities; if you can't find the midi, you might be able to play it and go from there asking people to recognize it. Actually, you have a lot of options, and I'm sure that I left something incredibly useful out ^_^
