Hey um, well here is a song i composed. Just something short that I came upon while fiddeling on my piano. So i decided to write it down in which i went to go old note worthy. Ratings? Comments? Tips? Dont got a name for it so i just put the key signature as the title.

2/10 is my rating.

Because of lack of structure and the amounts of foul notes in it. This piece says nothing to me.

Definately agree with One Winged. It lacks a solid theme... pretty much random notes everywhere (sorta). It does remind me a little of Bach (Oh, I hope he doesnt read this), with the tons of counter-melodies.

Try working on a real melody, and make the chords + the melody flow into each other. If you'd add a melody and stick to the same chord progression instead of taking all kind of random chords every time it would be way better.
I kinda liked the mood you got me in at the start, you should try to go on like that+add a melody.

Anyway, I agree with all the above.

Seems like you had some fun clicking in some notes. :shifty:

Thanks for the feedback. Sounded purty cool on the piano mostly cuz I havent actually composed something ^.^ But yeah, thanks. I guess I'll try adding some structure to it. Btw, what is the difference between F Major and D minor? It's all B Flat...

I must agree with everyone on this one. Random... x_x

*I hate when peoeple ask the diff. between a MAJ or MIN key/chord.

Ok basically:

MAJOR : Sounds triumphant or "nice"

MINOR : Sounds Evil or "dark"

I guess that's the sum.

Well, the real reason is that they have different tonal centers, even though they have the same key signature.

And if a piece is half Triumphant/nice and half Evil/dark?

And if a piece is half Triumphant/nice and half Evil/dark?

Well, as I understand it, changing between major and minor is quite common, at least in classical music. Pieces in minor keys often have a sections in major keys. If I remember correctly, a good example of this is Mozart's 40th symphony. The 1st movement features two themes, one in a minor key and the other in a major key.

Yeah I agree with everyone. Your melody just didn't speak to me nor did your bass line seem to fit with the treble cleft. Ah, but good try anyway. Keep at it you'll get better.

It's how it starts.

I guess that's the sum.

But you can get major chords sounding evil and dark, and vice versa as well - the further spaced out the chords are, the less obvious such a subjective distiction becomes. As for the original questions, both of them share the same key markings, and are said to be complimentary (there's always a major key that shares a key marking with a minor key which starts a minor third down from the major key).

For intervals, you can think of minor intervals as diminished (one half-step lower) versions of their major counterpart (ie, going down, major 7th dimishied = minor seventh) or major intervals as augmented versions of their minor counterpart(going up, minor second augmented = major seventh). Of course, this only really applies for a keyboard, and in theory, I think there is a distinct difference in say an augmented fifth and a minor sixth.

Also, chords with more than three notes tend to be a little tricky to define (ie, 7th chords have four different permutations).

But enough of this digression.

Ohkay, new composition, I was bored today, so I fiddled around some more :) Anyways, I think I improved alot since my last. This composition sounds really more like an excersize, but I did my best to get out of that tone. Well, comments and ratings please ^.^

Let's say it's 'not' interesting, because the melody was too simple that it's interest level was par to a major scale and although the chords were right, they were just arppegios, which isn't interesting. Well, that's my comment, good luck. ;)

Rating: 3/10 1 for effort + 2 for solid chords = 3! :D

I liked the chord progression in Exercise, but as they said, it lacks a proper melody.
