Well, I've been studying hard on the sonata form for a while now and I've finally managed to make a sonata movement. I must have searched the entire net looking for information on the development section, but I think I understand how it works now (it seems to be misnamed if you ask me). Yeah, I know it's not very good, but I have to try stuff to get better.

It's okay... it seems that the melody and bass don't match at all most of the time. But keep working on it...

Its flippin good. But I agree with sepharite, choose better positions for your bass line. And there were a few notes that were either off or stand out too much. 9/10

It was nice. A little basic if you ask me, but still its better then what I could do. Just keep working on it. Good Job!

It's alright, but I think it lacks originality. Form is useless in my opinion if you do not have the originality and creativity the give the piece power and emotion to drive it forward. Try to be a little more creative with your bass line for example, it is causing the song to become repetitive and bland.

I like your ideas and see potential growing out of them, but please, strive for originality and emotion! Find some inspiration and let it push your music forward! :D

For now, I'm trying to get the hang of sonata form, so understandably, I've been working on getting the form right. This is more of a practice piece to see if I could manage the sonata-allegro form rather than an "official" piece.

@Eddy: I agree with BlazingDragon completely, but if what you say is true, then I sure hope you post up an "official" piece soon. ^_^

I know nothing of classical form and structure though, so I can't really tell you whether or not you got it down. It sounds right though.:heh:

Anyway, I'll be waiting to hear the final, "officialized" piece if that is the case.

Well, to be honest, I'm not sure I'm good enough to ever produce anything of merit (some say I may be, but I personally doubt it), so I may never compose a piece I'm satisfied with. In any case, I tend to be very perfectionist in my projects. I've been working on a novel for over a year now and I'm still a long way off from actually writing anything yet. It's the same way with my music.

Keep in mind that not all composers were writing symphonies in childhood. Many studied and practiced for years before writing something they considered worthy of publishing. A few (Wagner and Bruckner, for example) didn't really get going until their thirties despite learning music since childhood! I've only been working on it for a little over six months plus a few past experiences with music.

Yay! It reminds me of when I first started taking piano and I would learn all these simplistic, happy little songs. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, though. The song feels like it doesn't care whether I hear it or not. It seems to just keep going and going in no particular direction. It's like it lasts as long as it does for the heck of it, without giving me any sort of variety or emotion. Sorry pal, not a winner in my book. :( Try to work more on what I mentioned. I want a piece that wants to be heard.
