What is the longest single piece of music ever composed? If it's a sonata, I just mean one movement, not a whole sonata.

I have absolutely no idea, so I'm not even gonna suggest one

I'd say Carmina Burana (it's about 45 minutes) but then again it is in 27 movements. There just isn't any space between the movements.

The longest - normal - piece of music I know, without interruptions or movements, is Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield.

25 minutes for the first part, and there's a second part which is 23 minutes long.

Uh, no way I could listen to the whole piece >.<. Anyway, I know this song composed by some dead guy that was 17 minutes long, but there was only one note played here and there... other than that, it was complete silence.

Um, I&#39;ve heard of a piece that gets longer and longer each time you perform it. So, when you reach the end of the piece, you stack on another part of the song (so it&#39;s like one big cycle), and it gets longer that way.
