I know of one that is ok. It doesn't give you an exact transcription but you can iron out the details. Try itelliScore Polyphonic WAV to MIDI converter. It does WAV and MP3's to MIDI. Or did you mean to go the other way around?

People who transcribe while using midi's are lazy bums =P

It's a decent way to transcribe if you're not musically gifted, and yet want to learn to play something.

Hi, just to pitch in a question since we're on the topic.
I've tried several mp3 to midi converters in an attempt to switch mainly instrumental music to midi form but it hardly turns out right. The base melody is most of the time done correctly, but there's always this background screeching/scratchy kinda sound, even with solo piano music.
Anyone know how to iron out the details? Tutorials dont really teach me how to do so >_<
Sorry,kinda noob with music ~

mp3 to midi converters are always like that. It's because mp3 is real sound while midis are just a bunch of lengthed pitches.
If you want to transcribe with mp3s instead of midis, then there are music slower-downers out there. And if you have a tuner (little small device that picks up sound, tells what note it is, and tells how in tune it is), it'll make everything easier too.

I'm not really into transcribing music ^^; Being that my skills arent exactly...er....fantastic XD. Some music simply sounds better as midi , and I've noticed that many more members tend to do transcriptions only if the music in midi form =x
Thanks for the info though, didn't know such contraptions existed XD

That's because they can just open the midi files in any program they might have and see the notes so they don't have to do any work. :P
