Deviant art has tuts for GIMP. Check there.

I'm probably one of the only GIMP users here, but I don't quite understand your problem. Check deviant art first and if you have any specific questions you can ask me.

So you want to get a messy pic and turn it all clean right?
Outlining a hand drawn.. im thinking you want to use paths.. (pen with lines, one between scissors and water drop thingy)

You just design your lines in a new transparent layer and then click on "stroke path"
Your design should be on the new layer and you can delete the old one or keep for color reference.

www.pixel2life.com has some nice ones. most of the things I know are cause of trying.

and for some really cool tutus check out http://www.gimptalk.com/

Good luck, im sure if you need anything else somdagger can help ya way better than I can.

I think me marlon and Septer also use the Gimp.

Cya!

ok heres a step by step: (to the best of my ability.. so it miigh be worng)

1. open up image
2. On image window click "dialogues" and then layers
3. at the bottom left hand corner of the layer dialogue, click new layer, make it a transparncy.
Make your paths on the new layer and after each path click on "stroke path" after you are happy with the results you can delete the original layer (leaving only the transparecy)

If thats not what you want then please be more specific!

OOPS Sorry

Once your done, create a new white layer and place the transparency over it.. then merge the layers. (the chekered colors are just to show you that its a transparent layer)

If you need any more help, feel free to add me to your Messenger (siul1313@yahoo.com) and I can walk you through it or help ya out or whatever.

another quest. wat r transparencys for lmao

Well, a transparency is taking something like this:
http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/5408/dopuswallpaperfirst4rl.jpg

and making it look like this:
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/2641/dopuswallpapersecond0ex.jpg
All this is done with layers and opaque (transparency) control, along with a lot of time cutting out the subject. By adding a simple white layer and making it transparent at 37%.

Another example is this double image:
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/6066/0164cutenn27qm.th.jpg (http://img245.imageshack.us/my.php?image=0164cutenn27qm.jpg)
It's like incorporating two pictures. Obviously they are of the same picture, yet one is somewhat seethru. That seethru, is transparency.

Now my old signature:
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/4178/basketskirt2ez.jpg
This uses about seven layers, with five of them being somewhat transparent (the boarder, and the backdrop, along with the larger picture of the girl)

And my new signature:
http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/2947/sigmkxp9oj.jpg
the backdrop consists of fourteen layers (yeah... I went crazy) with many being transparent.

Think of two overheads. One has a graph on it, and the other has your notes. They are two seperate entities, yet you can place them on top of each other and clearly see both of them, even if you write on top of the other one.

After you work with this for a while, you'll begin to understand just what transparencies are.

and now another thing... when i make a rly long line with the path.. when i click create selection, the dotted lines are short of wher i want it to make a line its like 2/4 of the way

I found a way to opac and transparent the stuff but forgot wher i went
