All I can say is practise a lot, and listen to yourself so you can hear where your own weak points are.

start off humming, the practise scales, the 'doh a dear' from sound of music. Its a brilliant warm-up

Sometimes it's easier to practice higher notes while you gently push inward on your diaphragm/stomach.

1. I get nervous
Well, this one is mildly easy to fix. Get small crowds to sing for and progressively make the audience larger. It helps... Trust me.
2. i cant do high notes very good
This one's a little harder to remedy... You're voice wasn't built to sing higher notes. There isn't much you can do but work on it. Always warm up before singing anything and don't do some crazy high pitched things... It will only hinder you. Work your way up to your goal of Simple and Clean. ^^
Good luck!

For nervousness:
Some people tend to speed up and get too excited, and this can lead to mistakes. So always remember the speed that you're at. If you can't pratice in front of a small audience beforehand, try imagining your audience instead. Train your brain to think positive! ;)
For high-pitched notes:
Do scales like someone suggested. Start low, then go up, gradually. But don't strain yourself or you may lose your voice.

When nervous Picture the croud naked...
I'm joking :)...
Calm yourself down and put all your energy in the song itself. Your focus will shift from the croud to the song, and you will soon forget them being their.
For reaching the higher pitched notes, it does take practice.
When praticing and you hit your peak, try to bend it higher by a half-step and hold it. Eventually the note will come in your range. Just keep repeating that.

On those high notes be careful not to strain your voice...some people have certain ranges...I know I'm a first soprano...I try for the low notes, but then I tend to stop, because well don't want to destroy my voice or anything.
1. Always sing. That's what I've been doing since 3rd grade. Singing when i do the dishes, et cetra. I think this falls into #2 as well...
2. Practice. A lot of practice on "simple and clean" will help you master the song and its lyrics, and hear the notes really well.

Tape your voice. Look at the difference when you hear it from a different point of view (as the people who are listening to you are).
And sing acapella...that's quite easy to "sound like" juste (don't know the english word...accurate ?) when singing with the music (especially when it's loud :sweatdrop: )

1. Nervousness:
Like the other ppl said, practise infrout of a small group. Also remember ALWAYS take a deep breath when your up there. Don't RUSH ANYTHING! also...NO MIND!!!
If too much things are on your mind, you won't sing well. Don't think about the audience, just concentrate on singing. If your singing and you have to stare at the crowd...PICK someone and stare at them while you sing, then switch to another person...etc...pretty good way i think.
2. Can't sing high notes that well:
um...everybody who can talk can sing, so i think you just need to practise. If you think your just not a soprano person. There'll always be pieces that's in alto that you can sing. Take a couple of lessons wouldn't hurt...Professional tips are required when learning how to play an instrument...including singing.

Okay I sing all the time is concerts and I always get nervous.
There was one time when I got up on stage to sing and the music started, then the microphone went dead...I had 700 people just looking at me frozen on stage and afterwards everyone asked me if I was miming (I HATE BEING ASKED THAT!)
I was really frightened to get back on stage. But I did and I was really nervous.
I found out in the 5 minutes before the harrowing experiance of singing again after the above event, that if I pretend I'm calm and not nervous then I won't be.
If you can make yourself look calm, even if you're queasy inside, it makes you feel calmer anyway.
With high notes, don't lift your chin higher as you sing them because it puts strain on your voicebox and the notes won't come out right. Also if you want to sing high notes make your voice quieter...once again it's less strain on the voicebox and it makes it easier for your voice to reach the pinnacle of whatever particular note you happen to be singing.
I've had professional singing practice since I was 8 and trust me...sometimes it doesn't help. If you don't like singing...well you won't be able to sing.

For nervousness, I guess singing in front of small crowds would help, but I have something else to tell you. Focusing on some inanimate object helps. I play an instrument, and the sheets keep me from noticing the crowd. Oh well, I dunno what it's like singing in front of a crowd. Perhaps you could also try singing along with the tape you make of yourself.

Listen to Simple and Clean a LOT, and match your voice to Utada's. The more you mimic her, the better you will get. In fact, as someone already said, tape your voice. However, rather than just listen to the tape, compare it to Utada's, see what you do wrong, and fix it the next time. Practice, practice, practice!

Well, to fix number one, don't start off by singing in front of huge crowds. I learned that the hard way I did a solo in a play because I wanted to and it was my first time singing alone in front of ANYBODY and I had the spotlight on me and in the dress rehersals, I was shaking a lot but everytime I shook even less out of nervousness. By the actual show, you couldn't notice me shaking.
2, I don't sing high very well either so I just stick to singing low. It's wierd though because if I am singing with a CD and a song has a high note, I can imitate the singers voice almost perfectly (some of them you can hardly tell I'm singing to it). But yeah. Practice all your scales and your arpeggios and you will be fine.

Heya! I'm a newbie :neko: , but I'll do my best to be helpful with this one.
When you sing, it's best to be relaxed. Try stretching first to wake up your diaphram. (figuratively...) The more relaxed you are, the easier the high notes will be. For nervousness, I only know of one thing to fix that: become the music. it sounds wierd, but ti works. When you sing, imagine the song in your head and feel in flow throughout your body. If you get really far into the music, it's really cool.
Now, for high notes (aside from being relaxed) trying warming up in thirds. just sing "Nya ah ah ah ah" on "do mi sol mi do" and go up the piano by half steps. Remember to keep your mouth round to keep your vowls from "spreading" and going out of tune. I don't know if that made any sense to you, but hey, I tried.
