I'm sure everyone knows about this debate topic. Is it possible to bend a spoon's neck by using nothing but your mind? Some claim that during extremely intense connection between the person and the spoon, the person can bend the spoon's neck. Sceptics of course have other theories (theories, not proof) to counter it. What's your view on this?

lol, by the topic title, I thought you were talking about Spoonpuppet XD
anyways, I've seen it been done before in TV. In my opinion, it's only fake equipment and a quick slight of hand. (using a rubber spoon with a string and then switching it with a real one after)

ever heard of optical illusion?

That could be a reason behind the phenomenon.

Yeah, I think it's just "movie magic," I'd probably change my opinion on it if I saw it in real life, otherwise I just think it's special effects.

When it comes to mental phenomonon's im stumped. I used (and still) read many and many books on the mind, magic and mental stunts, some old books, very old and some brand new.

Some books have cases in which there is great proof, trustworthy test and actual names. Its hard to say "oh this could have happened or this cant" because its just so real and trust worthy.

The bending of spoons is a bit awkward. Some say people can heat the spoon with their hands thus it bends where it is weak (bellow the spoon head). I watched a TV thing where a guy bent a spoon and they took its temputure and it was somthing like 200 F. Its somthing, but until I can touch it and see it Im still going to question it.

*I think we should change the title so its more general to mental and other phenomonons.. I want to talk about other stuff too*

I saw a similiar thing. There was an asian doctor who could warm things up in his hand to a strangely high temperature. To test this, they used a heat-sensor and indeed, the object he held in his hand turned red on the monitor.

Then I think you should modify the question: "Is it possible for anyone...". Obviously there are who have several extraordinary talents (e.g. some people have a very high body voltage, meaning that everyday household appliances burn out if they touch them). Such people are very rare, but they do exist, since some of us are acquainted with them.

For them, these things are possible, even thought they seem to be extraordinary to us. The real question is how can we become these people?

A lot of thing like that stump me. In one of those books I was talking about before (ill see if I can get the title of the series, it was from the lybrary) it talked of those "finding" rods. They come in a pair, made of metal and look like an "L". You hold them by the shorter side and you use it to find things.

My dad had some and he let my brothers and I play with it (It was years ago) and we used it to find things we hid around our property. The rods would cross or spread apart when you get close to an object you are looking for, if you hold them perpendicular to the ground.

The scary thing is it worked. How? I have no idea.

What are the diffrent theories of the spoon bending stuff?

EDIT - I found the word: paranormal. I think the title should be changed to that to keep it more general and open.

EDIT - http://www.skepticreport.com/psychics/urispoon.htm That one famous guy is exposed through his videos to be a fraud

^Is that what you're talking about?

Anyway, I don't believe people can bend spoons with their minds or with their body heat/electricity. Besides, I can better use with my time =P And why bend a spoon? Why not a fork? Or a knife? o.0

High body voltage? I've never even heard of that. But if they do exist then that sounds like a plausible theory behind spoon bending, if they can heat the spoon up by touching it. Bending it with your mind still sounds a little unbelievable to me though.

Well, I'm not sure what it's really called...

Just whenever they touch a working tv or lamp or something - the thing's fuse gets blown. My parents have friend like that -> have to believe in it

at the end of the day it hasnt been proven either way, so...

but as for my own opinion, i think it's possible

There was a TV special about people who were "special" a few years back. There was this one guy who either charged himself up by touching high voltage wires and stick lightbulbs in his mouth and lit them up /// or just stick them in his mouth without "charging" and they lit up... cant remember but he did make them light up.

The ability to move things with your mind is very unbelievable because its never been seen by a majority till this day. But it will be soooo cool if it was true.

Spoonpuppet is a myth; I've been saying this fo- Oh, I think someone can bend a spoon... maybe. To me, all things are phenomenon until we can put a label on it.

Some people can bend spoons with their mind. And, this is what I think, the spoon has a unique shape to it, unlike a fork or a knife. Maybe it's goes like this:
"hmm, ooh lookie, I can see myself in the spoon, hello self. *waves to self* Hey, I waved back! *moves spoon* But now I'm upside down. This makes me sad. Mean evil spoon." *bends spoon because it's evil*
Voila.
Yes, I know, it's crazy, but it could be plausible...in an insane asylum. Or my house. *shiver*

Ok, I'm back. I choked on my protein shake from reading the above message. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard that I got stomach cramps.

Have mercy. :D

All I know, is that in the movie "The Matrix", that boy told Neo that it wasn't the spoon that was moving.... It was his mind. Or something like that. I guess a spoon bends when your mind is in deep concentration. Similar to that person said about optical illusion. But, as always it is possible that spoons could be bent by some type of cytokenetisis.

You know, I'm beginning to think that maybe it isnt the spoon that is bending, but what we see from our eyes is that it is bending. Focusing all debate on how the spoon bends might be proved inplausable if the real culprit is how we look at it from our heads. Our eyes are not perfect, so maybe our brains send signals so portray from our eyes that the spoon is bending, or similarly bended due to comptatibility of the appearance of the spoon with the background or some weird phenomena.

Oddly, this doesn't make any sense when I re-read it the second time, yet I understand it the third time.

Yet, my pen, tv remote and computer doesnt bend because of my defected eyes.

i get what^^ is trying to say and it could be because our mind is convinced it WILL bend we see what is not there

But what about those who arent convinced? Two may see it bend, but five wont.

If the spoon is plastic, it bends because they put a flame below it.

Interesting. Reminds me of that episode of Pokemon were Ash stole the guy's spoon and Bended it using his thumb or something. lol.

Well, only one way to find out if it's real. Everyone, let us get our spoons and try to bend them! If we succeed, make sure to upload a video to youtube. :D

*Gets a crappy spoon, heats it up with a lighter, then videos the part of it bending over, making it look like it's my mind bending the spoon.*

Okay, i think its all a trick. one can bend the spoon several times until the spoon cracks and a skilled magician can make it look smooth with a quick flick.
