too many scary movies come out, so you have to look around for the good ones.

All of them are just funny. They're all just obsessed with gore. They think that's scary. The older movies scare me more. But then again... that could be when we're all 10 years older and watching the movies they're making now and thinking that they're scarier than the ones in the present time... Did that make any sense...? lol

A lot of "Scary" Movies do pretty much stinks. I remember seeing one with my friend. The entire was spent laughing at how stupid the characters, graphics, plots, and almost everything else was. The lady spazzed averytime she took a step. :\ I lke movies that make be glance at the shadows. XD Or at least something to think. Come on, bring in a plot not just action. I want something that makes me think, too.

Maybe that's just me.

All the scary movies these days really do suck, but like all the girls who live around me practically piss their pants in fright, especially the most predictable ones. I always feel the urge to watch the movies with em and when a predictable scary part is gonna happen I ruin it by saying whats gonna happen like "yep, scary dude with clamy skin is about to jump out with his eye missin and a butcher knife in his hand"

I'll just say it. Modern American horror movies suck out right (save a small handful of pulp fiction and zombie flicks). Honestly their only use I have for them is a laugh. Frankly, I try to leave the room when my family rents a horror movie so don't get homicidally annoyed with the stupidity of the cast. I want a horror movie that makes me want to look over my shoulder whenever the sun goes down damn it XD.

But seriously folks, I have gotten into old horror books recently, like from around the 1800's and up. Algernon Blackwood, H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen King and Mr. Edgar Allen Poe all have very interesting horror stories that I have come to enjoy. If you don't like reading, get into folklore or local stories, they usually have a haunted house or supernatural abomination right around the corner or nearest wooded area.

If ya have the time and money, don't rent a cheap hollywood horror rip off, go on a road trip and visit a real haunted house or castle.

Okay, from the girl who spent two hours sorting the horror section at the video store today let me say this: The main problem with horror is the classification.
Most of the films in the horror section, aside from the eastern ones, are equal amounts of slashing and comedy. Roughly two thirds of them actually have the word 'hilarious' or 'funny' in the blurb on the back. There is too much slashing for the comedy section though and the average rating is too high.
So it's not really the movies which suck, they are enjoyable enough. They just suck when viewed under the misconceptions that come with being classified wrongly.

many of them all seem very formulaic (sp?)... a lot just rely on the tried and tested one of a group of teenagers getting lost and killed off one by one.

i think texas chainsaw massacre was one of the more original films with this formula, but films like house of wax are just produced by the bucket load, offering nothing new to the genre.

texas chainsaw massacre wasn't scary at all.
quite boring actually.

the only thing scary about scary movies is the smallest element of surprise.

I laughed when I saw the commercial. I don't know if they want to be taken seriously or not. That's quite the mystery.

I have to say that all scary movies are scary. May not be to you or I, but each individual has somthing diffrent that frightens them. Im not scared zombies, but the next person might be. Im scared of ghost flicks, but the next person might not be.

There are some movies that are just plain stupid like The Evil Gingerbread Man (or somthing like that). There are some things that just cant be stupid. IT was scary for many people because many watched it as children. Clowns are supposed to be fun for kids but King warped it to so it killed kids. For a teen or adult it would be totaly silly because clowns are just stupid and silly to them so theres no warping in it; just a crazy killing guy. No associasion to fun.

But then theres The Village. Many thought is was a horror movie but if you watched the special features you will find out that Shamalan ment to make a period love story and he did make one.

Then theres those who are scared by situations. The Langoliers scared me a lot because the thought of being traped in a place with only a select few and then some monsters are comming is just.. SCARY. For someone else its just silly.

BrutalEnd was bitching about horror movies comming out ever month. Theres a Singing Balliwood movies comming out basicaly every week and I dont hear you bitching about that...

Personal preference.

Even if there were less bad horror movies being put out ther, I think more than one horrible horror movie is more than enough. Also, there are somethings that are just not scary. Not because someone is scared of one thing or another, but because proper effort and passion was not put into some aspect of the horror movie. Either the story is dull, or the makeup is cheap, etc.

I'm just saying that there are starting to be more bad horror movies than good ones.

RD

But like I said. It depends on what you watch and who watches it. My brother hates Stephen King because he finds it dull. I love his stuff because its scary.

See what I mean? Just because you say so doesnt mean its absolute.

July 27th, 2006, 09:37 pm
Really, it all depends on who's watching. Personally, I love gory movies and none of them scare me...at all :heh: But the classics like the Exorcist (who *didn't* get scared by that?), Polterguiest (sp whatever...and the little girl pretty much scared the hell out of me...)..and my dreaded enemy...Chucky :( Man, I HATE that doll @_@ So really, it all depends on what scares YOU.....*runs away from evil dolls*

ooooh Chucky...i was in a film rental shop with my cousin and she picked up Chucky without realising then she looked at the cover and like, half screamed and she didn't know what to do so she just put the dvd on the floor and ran out. lol that was funny, everyone was staring at me!!

July 28th, 2006, 11:43 pm
..Well you gotta agree that Chucky can get pretty damn scary XD Specially if you've watched all of those movies at midnight alone...(which is basically what I did out of boredoom)..so yeah XD

RD

Umm.. I find those movies fun to watch because its so.. silly? Its like a bad mexican soap opera gone bad. Its a doll... It talks and walks. Take off the arms and legs and cut everything else to peices! Wood Chipper anyone?!

The types of movies that scare my are the possable ones/realistic ones, the "BOO GHOST!"/"OMH WE'S STUCK IN THE HOUSE!" movies and... slashers....

Scariest movies I saw is... tie between Rose Red, IT and Texas Chain Saw.

Maestrosetti
July 29th, 2006, 12:02 pm
The Sci-fi channel's remaking IT, hurrah! It'll probably be crap, though (as everything they make is) but it shouldn't be too hard to beat the old one. (Although that's one of my favorite movies for some reason).

Yeah, scary movies...it's all a matter of what you're scared of.

RD
July 29th, 2006, 07:01 pm
Sci-Fi remade Salem's Lot. I didnt see a lot, only a minute or two, so I have no idea if it was good or bad (Ive never seen the original).

IT is a classic. Its a masterpice (thanks to Tommy Lee and King). I dont think they can make anything better.. But IT could be better if they get the right people to work on it.

Fool XD Chucky got MELTED in a fire...HE STILL LIIIIIIVES![/Zim]....I don't know. Slashers do not scare me at all. BUT...I live on a mountain, with nothing but the woods all around, and Wrong Turn left me pretty shaky :heh:

I'd say The Village. >^nn^< But if you see it more than once, it's not so...

M Night Shyamalan's stuff is the only interesting scary genre coming out now, isn't it?

RD
October 10th, 2006, 02:34 am
M Night Shamy isnt that much of a new aged horror man, he brings his movies back to the roots; phycological horrors. Nothing wronh with slashers [some people think they are inferior because its all actions, but screw those people] but there are other types of horror movies.

I don't really watch horror mobies but the scariest one I have seen would be The Haunting(the old one)that movie messes with your mind.:( The old horror movies are so much better.
