I don't think it's strange to name your instruments. There was this French book I read a long time ago, concerning this young violinist who was a prodigy on the violin. She named her violin, because she had a strong connection to it.

I don't have a name yet for my piano . . perhaps Old Faithful? Since it's been around since I was little?

I don't really have a name for my clarinet. Though several times, my friends and former high school band mates caught me baby talking to it lol.

but i call my violoncello "meine Kleine". that's german and means something like "My little one" or "My little girl". that sometimes sounds a bit funny because a cello really isn't a small instrument... my one's nearly as "tall" as me :D

My violin certainly has, I call her (it's a she) Manon which is a French name. Maybe this has just to do with my synaesthesia but I know others who have instruments with names as well.

A friend of mine has named her piano Jinari which means "wisdom of the heart" and is sanskrit, I believe.
