Means "bright fame", derived from the Germanic elements hrod "fame" and beraht "bright". The Normans introduced this name to Britain. It belonged to three kings of Scotland, including Robert the Bruce who restored the independence of Scotland from England in the 14th century. The author Robert Browning and poets Robert Burns and Robert Frost are famous literary bearers of this name. Also, Robert E. Lee was the commander of the Confederate army during the American Civil War.

For those that want to give it a try...

Well I looked it up in many places. In Scottland I have a region named after me, and they say that the background or root of the name comes from "Church".

I too am a special launage that some people known as [i]Bell Labs[/] used my name at their launage...dunno what that's about.

I think theirs a town in Florida named Paisley too...but in the dictionary is says "1. Made of a soft wool fabric with a colorful, woven or printed and swirled pattern of abstract curved shapes. 2. Marked with this pattern"

Christopher is the name that corresponds to the Greek name/word Christophoros. The latter consists of words for 'Christ' and "to bear" (pherein). It was popular with early Christians who believed they "carried" Christ in their hearts.

The name also became associated with the apocryphal story of a giant who physically carried the Christ-child across a river. See Saint Christopher.

Well, somethings weird-and forgot to tell you all as well.

My full name, Seth Ryan King-Gengler, actually is KongMing in chinese. Now, if anyone of you know about The Romance of the Three Kingdoms and it's history (Or Dynatsy Warriors x_x ) Then you know that Zhuge Liang's chinese name is KongMing.

Don't worry, I went all around on sites, and it was different. When I was studying the Romance of The Three Kingdom eras and The Fall of The Han, I wanted a professional Chinese name for myself.

Some shop downtown did actually this. (Dont worry, it isn't a rip off. :heh: I looked into it a bit) So, I filled out a sheet of characteristics, and since this old guy looked, and was expierenced (Immigrant from China. Came like 15 yrs ago, and is something like 70-80 yrs old hah.) he determined my name. Wehn I saw KongMing, I was like.. WTF!?

Trust me, this was awesome. This also means, that I had very, very, very similar charateristics to Zhuge Liang (KongMing) only when I am my trueself.

Mary is a popular female given name. It is possibly derived from either the Aramaic saying "Mar-i-yah" which means "My God is Yah"; Yah is short for Yahweh; or from the Hebrew name Miryam, thought to mean "bitter" or "rebellious" or from the ancient Egyptian name Mery, meaning "beloved" Variations on the name include Marie and Maria.

a common given name. It is the most popular name for a male in the United States, and during the 1990 U.S. Census, approximately 3.3% of males counted had the first name. It is derived from the same Hebrew name as Jacob, meaning "grasps by the heel" or "supplanter," probably in a deceiving way (In the bible Jacob was born grasping Esau's heel and later bought his birthright).

Jessica is a name from the Hebrew Yiskah (יִסְכָּה), name of a daughter of Haran, meaning "the Lord beholds" or "the Lord's gift."

The Hebrew root sakhah (ס.כ.ה) means "to see," so the name Yiskah, with the added yud, implies foresight or clairvoyance. There is midrash by Rashi suggesting that Yiskah is also a name for Sarah, so the meaning of this name makes sense for two reasons: people would gaze at her beauty, and she was known to be a prophetess. The name Jessica also stands for wealth.

* Jessica was first used in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice as the name of Shylock's daughter.
* Jessica was one of the top three baby names throughout the 1980s-90s, and was # 1 in the UK in 2005.
* "Jessica" is an instrumental hit by the Allman Brothers Band, and theme tune of Top Gear.
* Jessica is a spider genus (Anyphaenidae).
* Jessica is a novel by Australian author Bryce Courtenay
* Jessica is a mini series based on the book of the same name by Bryce Courtenay

* Jessica Alba, American actress
* Jessica Albert, a fictional character from Dragon Quest VIII, a video game
* Jessica Andrews, American country music singer
* Jessica Atreides, a fictional character in Frank Herbert's Dune novels

* Jessica Boyington, Miss New Jersey 2006 from Miss USA 2006

Looked again, my name also means "sword" in japanese, at least, the ken part, which is my nickname. Named after Kenshin, or Kenshi... I found that pretty awsome.

Oh, and my name's Kenneth btw for those wondering.

So it seems we can discover a lot from just looking at our names, and at the same time, discover where some of our personalies deprived from. Interesting eh?

So your name would be something like 'Cherish' or one of the different spellings of Sheree?

Apparently my name means "winner". Something weird about Hmong, though: it's used a lot in regular speech. @_@

1) Sempai is not a word.
2) Only if you're superior to someone else in something to the point where people come to you for guidance.

Name, Edward

Means "rich guard", derived from the Old English elements ead "rich, blessed" and weard "guard". Saint Edward the Confessor was the king of England shortly before the Norman Conquest. Because of his popularity this name remained in use after the conquest (most other Old English names were replaced by Norman ones), and was even the name of eight subsequent kings of England. Edward is also one of the few Old English names to be used throughout Europe.

Cool beans!:woohoo:

When I was young I was given a keyring that told me the meaning of my name. Some people get things like place mats or mugs with the same info.
