What tips/pointers acn you give a new artist. I ddi upload the Bakuar fanart a while agao. And I got GIMP on my comp. (Still trying to figure out how to use it.) So any pointer/tips would be greatly helpful. And should I buy the hot to draw anime books?

Thanks:)

Im not an artist..but as far as I know..

Buying the how to draw books is a bad idea, get some online tutorials and go from there, develop your own style and dont try to copy someone elses, also dont draw the same thing over and over again with tiny diferences. Experiment with poses, scenes, colors and backrounds.

About the gimp..head over to the gimp/photoshop thread and ask any questions there.(You'll probably get a faster reply I think)

hmmm...all of that could be wrong ...so just wait for someone wiser and far more experienced to come along.

I pretty much agree with Siul. A friend of mine would get manga's and she would draw from there. It helps give you ideas and stuff. Look at others work so you get ideas and then think of what you like and try to work on that.

Ok here's what you man, I want you to buy some anime books that tell you how to draw manga. I don't want you to follow everything in the book. Or that'll take take the style outta every artist, for the point of a good artist to draw with his own style and creation. Just take some pointers outta the book, if you don't know how to do something. Then read what it tells you for that one thing. Also, as they said look at some animes or mangas and get some stuff from them. And for stuff like proportion, hands, and etc. just look at your own body. Try to get a good idea of how long something should be. And when making hand positions and poses, do them yourself. Put your own body part or body in that pose or position you want it to, if may be silly, but it helps a whole lot. Hope this helps.... Also, googling stuff helps a lot too -.^

I wouldnt get how to draw books. They usualy have crap styles that look like an 8 year old drew and lie about anime and manga terms and what they mean.If you just want proportions theres plenty of free sites that talk only about artistic proportions. Google is your friend.

About proportions. The only thing I think has to keep to real world proportiosn is hands, feet and face. Other then that try to keep it to what looks natural really. One of my favorite artist, Yoshitaka Amano (from whom I get a lot of insperation from), strays a bit from real world proportions to show emotions in the diffrent body movements.

If you know of an artist you like look at his/her paintings or drawings. Get insperations from them. There is nothing wrong with taking a bit from the persons style. Degas, Monet, Manet and Renoir did so and I love all their paintings even if they are all in the same art school.

Google is your friend.

Great advice. BTW I was given two "how to draw manga" books by a friend...read em and now they are sitting somewhere collecting dust. not really useful at all

1) Try to visualize what you want to draw/paint.
2) Choose colors
3) Apply first draft
4) If you're happy, finalize.
