So, I just recently have come across this problem. Any type of video/video format cannot be played on my computer without having the entire computer restart. This problem just started happening two days ago. My friend said that it might be a hardware problem, but I haven't changed anything recently.

Work your magic.

yea give up on computers XD

I honestly believe it's a virus/adware. get a good anti virus program then bust that virus and it should get rid of your problem. alternatively slap your little sister for keep pressing the reset button without you knowing

No way it's a virus, running:

AVG Anti Virus 7.1
Bazooka
Hijack This
Spyware Doctor

(.. and Norton. :bleh: )

Here's an Idea:

Right click on desktop
select properties
click the settings tab near the top
click the advanced tab
go to troubleshoot
set the slider one down and see where that goes. If one notch doesn't work, go another until you reach none

It might work. If it does, that means you have a problem with your graphics card. Honestly I doubt it's your processor, but a graphics card might just be the thing.

orrrrrrrrrr alternatively which should always help. uninstal then reinstal your video viewing software

E- Can't believe I'm saying this, but thank you Windows Error Report!

Actions for you to take
We have analyzed your error report and there is one solution for this problem for you to choose.
+ Solution 1: Install the most current driver for your video card.

Proves that I should pay attention to the blurbs talking about updates.

Norton? Norton AntiVirus?

Thats a great way to fsck up your system. Its recommended to only have one anti-virus per computer (If you have more than one installed, you'll most likely run into quite a few problems including slow start up, etc.)

Try this. (http://www.asksomeone.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=4671)

If that doesn't work, try installing previous versions of the Messenger, reccomending 7.0

Get at least one virus scanner to run in the background, it will help intercepting virusses.

Did the video problem get solved yet? Could be cooling trouble. My friend had that once, his GFX card cooler was so full of dust that even flash movies made his system crash and reboot.

I still have to install a whole bunch of drivers from the ATI site. :mellow:;

But did the videos play okay before? I mean, if they did it can't really be a driver issue x_x

If all else fails. Wipe your hard drive and start clean.

If it's a hardware issue, wiping my hardrives wont do anything.

My MSN Messenger use to give me the same error, so what i did was just turn off my Norton Internet Security and it worked, but after a while I didn't need to turn it off, and now it works just fine.
