*points to sig*

I have a good reason to like his movies. Totoro was the first anime I watched, way before I knew what anime was. And the only movies I can recall watching before Totoro was Fox and the Hound and Cinderella.

I would agree with M. all of those are great anime series especially Eureka SeveN. Neon Genesis Evangelion and Fafner are also pretty good as well as DNangel. Some people like samurai champloo, black cat, .hack, FMP, FMA, and FFU(Final Fantasie Unlimited). Naruto is ok. The recent ones are boring because they are just fillers. Next week Feb. 16, they actually start to continue the orginal story of Sasuke and Naruto i think. :heh: M. congratulations. Even though I have seen most of those, there are some that i haven't thanks for posting those up.

I'd have to say (in no order)

1. The Whole Series of Dragonball (Z and GT)
2. Naruto
3. Bleach
4. Love Hina
5. Death Note

Dragonball, I just grew up with it and I just fell in love with it. It's my favorite anime of all time.

Naruto is a great action mixed with comedy and drama. The story is unpredictable at most points. I highly recommend Naruto, but there are a LOT of filler episodes.

Bleach has a lot darker tone than DB or Naruto. The battles are really interesting and even the filler episodes are interesting. The characters are really easy to like and I love this anime.

Love Hina is just plain hilarious.

Death Note is mysterious and darker toned which I like.

February 15th, 2007, 02:59 pm
my top five:

1. Elfen Lied (well.. full of blood, nudity and violence, but the story behind all that is unbelievable! this series really impressed me and is my favourite since on year.)
2. X 1999
3. Marimite (Maria-sama ga miteru)
4. Shingetsutan Tsukihime
5. Wolf's Rain

You can also download anime from anime eden or anime capsule. I sometimes will use bit torrent but that has a lot of viruses. Anime can be bought all oover the web google, amazon, Barnes and Nobles has some. You can also rent them from Netflix. I prefer downloading since it is free.

possibly because of all the violence and nudity.. there are heads rolling, a lot of blood, all this.. i heard some people call it a splatter but i think it's not that cruel.

uggg, i hate naruto.....

to tell you the truth, it's not inuyasha that's long, it's sailor moon and case closed that long!!!!! case closed is 250 frekin episodes, inuyasha is 164, i think..sailor moon is 201(counting the short{that wasn't translated}ami's first love) my favrot would be sailor moon right next to dragon ball z(they both have a place in my heart) then inuyasha, then case closed

M
March 5th, 2007, 04:04 am
Case closed is far longer that 250. Try 466 and still going. It's still no match for Doremon's some odd 1300.

Apparently Conan (Case Closed for Americans =p ) is still pretty good. Long stuff doesn't *have* to suck, it just usually does ;)

Detective Conan (Case Closed) is relatively unknown for the american audience but huge amongst the east (Taiwan, Hong Kong etc.).
There are some KILLER episodes/movies that make you splooge and go ;_______;

Try NANA.

Lol, true. But still, you don't expect the same quality from something put out in a week that takes some a month or more to make.

animation/sound crew of ten-thousand...?

Neko Koneko
March 6th, 2007, 06:25 pm
Of course Conan TV won't be of the same quality as for example an OVA, but considering its lenght and comparing it to other long series it's supposedly quite good.

Man, how come no new more episodes of Case Closed (Detective Conan) are coming to America as far as DVD wise? It doesn't make sense thats a great show too. Here its only up to episode 83. And I didn't even know the show was still going on. Its just not fair, is what it is. The Japanese must think were not very reliable to give us more episodes, and I thought Case Closed was made quite a few years ago, correct me if im wrong, but you would think by now they would send more over. I know they are going through all the original episodes to put them on DVD but they still could work on both. I don't know, maybe once they're done getting all the first few seasons out they'll give us more of the new ones. Where's the love for the Conan fans? I'll tell you where it is. Its in Japan and all those other far East countries. *Ending Rant*

So my favorites and the ones that I recommend are,
1.Dnangel
2.Case Closed
3.Dragon Ball (Includes Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT)
4.Lupin the 3rd
5.Bleach
6.Inuyasha
7.Spiral
8.Naruto
9.Evangelion
10.Full Metal Alchemist

Cinderella
March 11th, 2007, 12:06 am
My favorites are:

1. Anything from Ghibli
2. Azumanga Daioh
3. Digimon (surprisingly good. If you want more mature stuff, Season 3 is very dark)
4. CardCaptor Sakura (NOT THE DUB. The original is great though)

And one comedy that I enjoy is PowerPuff Girls Z.

To tell you the truth, all shows are pretty much good. It just depends on if it adapts to your feel, what your into. Just browse around, listen to rumors, look for commercials. It's not like there's just a couple of good ones out there. There a whole lot, if you were to look for em all, you'd be as old as moses. But before then, your better off just looking for specific shows you like. For example, if your into action/adventure, just go to google.com, and type in "action/adventure anime shows". And it should guide you from there. An even easier way is to go to the keiichianimeforever website. They've got tons of shows over there in "ABC" order.
----------------------------------------------

And if you still want recs. here's what I'd think you should watch:

Action/Adventure

*Gungrave(look on youtube, they've got the whole series)
*Nurato
*Bleach
*Inuyasha(though the show's gettin kinda old)
*Cowboy Bebop
*Lupin the 3rd(though I don't watch it, I've heard it's a great show)
*Blood+
*D.N.Angel(do they have a show? I thought they did didn't they?)
*Samurai Deeper
*Final Fantasy VII:Last Order(I don't know if they've made an official series, but if they did, seeing from the preview episodes, it's a really good show, including if your a FF fanatic)
*Samurai X
*Ima stop here before you spend you life reading all the actions XD

Drama

*Fruits Basket
*Gundam Seed(For those of you who are wondering why, if you've watched the show, you think more of drama than action)

Comedy
*Bo Bo Bo
*Frogman(I that's what it's called)

Mystery
*Cased Closed (very good show)
*Paranoia

There's more, just don't remember, too many of em.

pianocrazy90
March 18th, 2007, 03:47 am
Paranoia Agent isn't really what you'd call a mystery-type anime per se. Its weird is all I can say about it. But if you ment like if the viewer from the start doesn't know what going on then yeah it is. But I wouldn't invest my time in watching it again. Its only 13 episodes and is just plain weird. The first reference to knowing the show is weird is the opening theme song- now thats creepy- they all smile while dangerous calamities happen, while strange music plays. And don't even get my started on the ending theme. But if your into weird stuff and like not knowing a thing untill the last episode then yeah go ahead and watch it.

I find Code Geass (Sunrise = Gundam Series) really likeable...There are 2 "heroes", the one we follow around the most uses (in nice terms) - rebellious warfare...and the other hero goes about it the way it has been since the middle ages...

Of course, it invovles the AU universe where Brittania has taken over Japan, so mechs all around, political turmoil, senseless killings, general hate for a general people...etc...stuff that keep an anime going.

It's still ongoing, with the last 2 episodes planned to air (sometime) this summer...not sure when...and a 2nd season announced...Such beautiful twists with episodes 21-23 right now...(PS - People call it a cross between Deathnote and Gundam SEED, with character art by CLAMP)

----

Another nice one was Scrapped Princess (Studio BONES = Fullmetal Alchemist), which is licensed...so I can't watch it on crunchyroll anymore...A questionable main pairing though, but it fits with a bit of logic...26 episodes and done.

I guess I can safely say that you haven't lived if you haven't watched Honey and Clover...at least the first season. The series is simply a masterpiece that ingeniously incorporates elements of comedy, slice-of-life, drama, and romance into one of the greatest series of all time. And this is coming from somebody who had watched action series religiously. ;) Chances are, you'll find yourself laughing out loud one moment and crying the next--especially if you're able to identify with any one of the characters, which, I should add, are very well-made. Aside from the plot and amazing cast of characters, a unique artistic approach and amazing soundtrack make the series even better. This is truly a gem. >:D

And to totally cancel out my excessive Honey and Clover promotion, I'll throw in a good word for Gankutsuou. Basically, this is a quasi-sci-fi adapation of The Count of Monte Cristo. The visuals in this series are breathtaking, although the style may take a while to get accustomed to. The plot was very nicely done, and the characters are well-sketched out. :) It's definitely a must-see if you enjoy dramas.

And if you're looking for pure comedy, Ouran High School Host Club>Azumanga Daioh. ;)

If you looking for some anime movies, you can never go wrong with the Lupin the 3rd movies. You can actually buy them together in sets of five, and they aren't expensive. They are pretty good in length too.

If you don't like Lupin then you can get the Ghibli film movies. They are all good. There are too many to list as well. Or anything by Hayou Miyazaki is hit as well.

I've seen like the first episode of Le Chevalier D`Eon. Its pretty cool, you know being set in France in like the 1500s or 1600s. Or around the rule of Louis whatever. Its a little weird about the revenge part when that guy turns into that girl, but its pretty cool. Obviously you can tell I haven't seen much of the show. So don't criticize me, and I haven't seen it in a while.

I recommend Fate/Stay Night also.

Case Closed-amazing detective show. I only started watching it because it said Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. (Honest to God, at one o'clock in the morning, I was jumping up and down on my pillows, positively screaming, "Yes, Yes, YES! I love you, Sir Doyle! My neighbors had a couple of things to say to me the next day, but it was worth it.
Death Note, freakin' awesome. Left me breathless.
Anne Freaks<--first manga I ever owned. All four volumes out now. GET THEM!
Naruto bored me after the Genin exams.
Fullmetal Alchemist ended at the perfect time. It didn't act like the energizer bunny.
InuYasha is amazing. Had to be with Rumiko Takahashi. Anything from Takahashi.
Hellsing, the graphics are a bit different, it's got lotsa gore, and precisely zero romance. I love it.
Arm of Kannon- Scared the bejeezus outta me.
Yami No Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness left me in the dark.

Okay, done for now.

My recommendations are:
1. Fullmetal Alchemist -( the script and character developement is great. My favorite anime so far)
2. Bleach
3. Eureka Seven -( good anime makes you think. It can be confusing though and Eureka can get kinda anoying)
4.Naruto -( at first I couldnt stand this show, I gets better towards the end though. The cons are, to many filler episodes, the episodes dont get to the point and waste time making there more episodes than needed)
5. Inuyasha -( this used to be my favorite episode but now on cartoon network they show the same epis over and over, also Kagome is anoying, too many filler episodes, & the script could be better, I still recommend it though b/c it is simple and a classic love story. You dont have to think when you watch this show b/c everything is mostly how it appears. If you just want to be entertained watch this show, but if you want alittle more than I dont recommend it.)

Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei is a pretty ok one too.. the second series just came out recently, haven't tried it yet, but hope it's as good as the first series.

Would have recommended Clannad for this season (afterall, Air and Kanon were both good) except it's going quite slowly... feels like it's being dragged out too much.

And those who recommended School Days... =_= please tell me... why???

hahas, this month, we will be seeing alot of new animes...for the month of july: zero no tsukaima:princess no rondo, seikirei, slayers revolution, Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora, scarecrowman, Seiyou Kottou Yougashiten, Hidamari Sketch X 365, strike witches, Tetsuwan Birdy DECODE , Yakushiji Ryouko no Kaiki Jikenbo, Natsume Yuujin-Chou, Mission-E( this is the sequel to Code-E), World Destruction ~Sekai Bokumetsu no Rokunin~, Koihime†Musou, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu and Mugen no Juunin.

and for those who watches gundam 00, season 2 will be out in October i think >.<

M
July 13th, 2008, 02:45 am
Of those that are listed, I think only Hidamari Sketch x365 is worth watching. Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu also looks like an otaku flick, and I personally tend to like those, even though 90% of them suck. Perhaps Telepathy Shoujo Ran will turn about, or Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu won't put me to sleep or the boobs of seikirei will stop growing, and Birdy the Mighty Decode would get some clothing that isn't latex. Fecking J.C. Staff is going to ruin Slayers for me, and What's this? Another season of Harry Potter Ripoff Zero no Tsukaima? Who'd of thunk it?! I think THAT anime blog did a good job with describing Strike Witches.

Strike Witches - In a world where pants were never invented, brave girls fight for the pride of their nations whogivesafuckingshititsfanservice. 2/5.

Seriously, there hasn't been a good release since last winter, and sequel hell is hitting the shelves. It's starting to get frustrating. After all, everyone /loves/ Chi's sweet home and how awesome it is and how it demands 108 episodes which is about 35 episodes more than CCS (I suppose I should be thankful it didn't hit the Hamtaro 400s).

Bah. When anime fails me, I fall back to manga and novels.

If you loved the lord of the rings then Record of Lodoss war is for you, and for anyone who loves a good action adventure anime.

Looking for a good feudal japan anime? Check out Samurai Deeper Kyo and Inuyasha.

Futuristic, aliens taking over earth? If you've seen StarShip Troopers then you must see Blue Gender.

DMC, if you've played the games then you must see the anime.

The Gundam Seed Series in my opinion is the best Gundam series there is. in my opinion.

Secret organizations, assassins, badazz main character, then you must watch Black Cat and Darker Than Black.

Well those are my recommendations for now. You can look em up at www.anidb.net

OMG! I'm sooo bored! Can anyone pleeeease reccomend some good anime shows? I'm looking for shows similar to BLEACH (which is the awsmst show evah, which most people think is wierd coming out of my mouth cuz I'm a girl ) or any romance or comedy shows. Ugh, school days is totally not something to recommend for someone coming off of bleach... I already know full well about the boat ending, but still can't find the resolve to watch through 11 episodes (currently postponed on 6) of frustration and intense loathing for the protagonist to reach that light at the end of the tunnel.

If you want blood, Higurashi no Naku koro ni and its sequel are quite good, along with Elfen Lied and Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan (lol).

edit: Oh yeah, go watch Fate/stay night. Despite the visual novel being superior, it's still a fairly interesting series.

M
February 2nd, 2009, 09:08 pm
The whole point of School Days was to hate the characters, and that's what makes the Nice Boat such an epic scene. Though, I will admit, sticking it out to the end was hard, but it was such a unique progression that I haven't seen before in this quality of anime.

katluvr33
February 2nd, 2009, 09:39 pm
Could we try something that's in English, please? I don't understand Japanese or Chinese or anything like that, you know. I'd like something more similar to Bleach, okay? Something like Death Note would be nice too. Death Note is great up until the part where Light turns good. It gets really complicated after that (and boring, too). If there's no shows like those, a romantic comedy like School Rumble would be okay. I'm soooo bored!!!

Gotank
February 3rd, 2009, 08:30 pm
Since I doubt most of us keep tabs on what shows have been dubbed into English, it's difficult to recommend anything if you don't want to watch sub-titled anime. The closest thing to Bleach is arguably Naruto, for better or worse.

In my opinion, to mention any character 'turning good' in Death Note is to completely miss the point of the series. But as for similar, Code Geass is the series most frequently compared with it. And it's a great series.

As for romantic comedy, Clannad and Kanon (2006) are both excellent; however, they lean more on the romance than comedy side (especially the latter). Kannagi, Zero no Tsukaima (first season only!), Seto no Hanayome, and Hayate no Gotoku are all worth a look.

Anyone following this season's new releases?

Kurokami has some of the best animation I've seen in a long time, though I'm not particularly fond of the character designs. Still, the premise reminds me of Shakugan no Shana for the first few episodes, except the Tsundere roll is switched =)

And also, I think Eve no Jikan is going to be the dark horse of this season. I just watched the first episode, and there's already so much potential. It's kind of like Chobits, but one step up and without the ecchi genre.

First off, my list is my own. It's not a syndication of everyone's statements.

Second off, there hasn't been really that much that's happened since my last anime update. Very few anime have gone under the radar in the recent 17 or so months, and their mention was placed in this thread already, thus I felt no need to update my list.

Third, it's not possible to allow someone else to edit another's post. You'll have to live with this fact.

did anyone mention kekkaishi or kampher or sieken no blacksmith or fma brotherhood

M
November 14th, 2009, 09:15 pm
Kekkaishi is too long and feels like it was designed for children. It has its moments but it feels generic the entire way.

Kämpfer lacks any sense when going about its story, but it hosts a lot of male turned female gender humor. Though, Princess Princess and Otoboku does it far better.

Sacred Blacksmith is kinda up in the air. It reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles and Toukusho Seikan, with a dash of Queen's Blade (lacking the acidic lactose).

Have yet to see FMA:B.

All in all, they're good, but not worthy of recommendations.

I think that's only some of it. I can't really give anymore unless I dig into my head a bit more just to grab some more animes out. Um... You should just watch out for some of these if you don't like... THOSE moments. Other than that, they're all great animes to watch at these times... I think in my own opinion.

Can anyone suggest me any good anime? I feel like watching something that's somewhat fantasy themed... Magic Knight Rayearth, Slayers, Scrapped Princess, that kinda stuff. Occult stuff like Hellsing or Chrno Trigger is good too. I like action and humour, I'm not keen on fanservice.

Hope someone can recommend me something to watch :P

I'd love to say Umineko (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=6051), but it became crap really quickly, and it feeds off of its own cheesiness.
Rental Magica (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=5189) is Occult, but it sometimes falls to fanservice, but the five story paths it takes from the books are pretty well done.
Mnemosyne (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=5530), while it likes to make the main characters go naked during fighting all the time with and without taste, has some pretty epic moments in action and occult. Think of it as Black Lagoon meets Zombies.
Darker than Black (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4906) is also pretty good when it comes to the action, though it likes to delve into the "I wanna be complicated like Evangellion" phase every once in a while.

There's also some of the classic big names like Witch Hunter Robin (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=96), Beserk (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=98), and mainstream Yuu Yuu Hakusho (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=312).

The recent anime with these themes are laced heavily with Moe and Fanservice. For example Madoka Magica (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=8069) is incredibly dark, and occult, but it falls back on to Chibi-Moe in between action sequence.

And I don't know why, but Pandora Hearts (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=6288) also comes to mind when I was writing this up.

There wasn't much moe, iirc, and I think the moe that was there was mostly just to make the dark parts seem even darker. It was a pretty good show.
For occult (and Shaft!) I'd go with Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari, though. I haven't seen Bakemonogatari since it came out, but I remember thinking it was great, and I've loved every episode of Nisemono so much so far. Some people might complain that it's "trying to seem smart," but I think that sort of criticism is unwarranted when the show is genuinely smart. The show's clever enough to have me smiling through every episode, and a lot of the humor has me laughing.

I recommend them, Neko! Madoka, too!
Also, Ghost Hunt, for sure. It's not very well known, but I liked it a lot. The way they treated the supernatural was really neat, I think.
And Berserk is fantastic, but I'm speaking for the manga. Haven't seen the anime, though I imagine it has to be at least good, considering the source material.

I think you'd also enjoy Haibane Renmei. It's not especially scary or dark, but there are some pretty creepy parts. It's more of a supernatural mystery than anything. A girl wakes up in a strange town she doesn't recognize. The town is surrounded by high walls that nobody is allowed to cross or look over but there are people inexplicably disappearing from the town anyway. The show follows the girl as she tries to figure out what's going on with her new home. It's definitely worth watching, I think, for its uniqueness, if nothing else. I haven't seen much else like it.

What Macross series/films/OVA's are good anyway? I remember watching Macross Zero and loving it, then I tried to watch Macross 7 and it was the most horrible piece of crap ever x_x

Given that criteria, you prolly will only like Macross F. It's their anniversary anime that basically merges all of the best of each of the Macross Series that precede it. The original Macross is decent, but it is heavily dated to the point in which it actually effects you as you watch it. Still the original arc really does set the stage. The others are more like ugly stepchildren when compared to these three.

I heard that Macross Plus was pretty good too so I might check it out just to see if it's any good to me... I don't mind old anime, some old anime is still great despite it looking horrible compared to today's stuff :P

Alright, I'm currently in the process of... acquiring Pandora Hearts, Mnemosyne, Rental Magica, Darker than Black and Madoca Magica.

So much for the... occult stuff I guess. How about some fantasy stuff like Scrapped Princess, Fullmetal Alchemist and Berserk? :P

I haven't watched the Berserk anime, but the manga....drags. A lot. Darker than Black, I found a bit hard to get into, but it late became quite good. On Pandora Hearts, I'd say that you should read the manga instead of watching the anime. IMO, the anime had too much blur for their art style, and the dark aspect of it is toned down. The manga.... screws with your mind. Not going to tell spoilers, but you might have to read the whole 70+ chapters again to understand it. FMA? LURVE IT. The first anime was...eh for my tastes, mostly because of the ending, but Brotherhood made me shed tears of SHEER JOY. Never have I found a series that combined fantasy, science, philosophy, comedy, action, and drama so well.
