This is something a friend of mine has been working on for quite some time now. My friend would find it very helpful for coments on the work he has done so far. It is not at the finnished state he desires. This is Trio Sonota no. 2 in C minor arranged for concert band.
My friend thanks you in advance!

...
That's... ummm... I don't think there's words for it. XD
EDIT: Ummm... I shouldn't even have permission to say anything negative about this amazing piece, but the first note in measure 136 sounds really bad. Nothing another 301 measures can't make up for. XD

This piece is quite a long one and perhaps that is why I feel like there's a lack in development. Your friend was going for something like a boroque piece right? To musicality, I don't like saying too much just in case I offend unintentionally but I feel like he could have added some more to the other instruments. The flutes and clairnets had next to no roll to the second half of the piece. I suggest he try echoing. Sort of fugue-ish.
One thing I noticed when I was watching the piece in finale was that he goes off the limits of instruments. One particular is a flute trill. A flute can not go any lower than the middle C, things like that to watch for.
The following are just my opinion, PLEASE do not take them personally or be offended cause it's just what I think personally:
The transition to the final section was a bit too abrupt. I think he could have went back up the half tone to the F# with a lead in. Eg: ti-do-ti---do.do---(rest...)[bar 127]
I also felt that the song lost it's exillerating-ness (is that word?) that it had at the start as it repeated and...blabed on. It was always on the verge of being too long, just when I start to feel bored, something interesting came in so that was cool.
Awesome work, how long has been writing this? It must take a lot of dedication, I look up to him:lol:

Once again he is still not done with it, he has to fill in the rest of the parts, add percussion, and the proof read. I think he once told me that he has been working on it for a year or two off and on. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS. IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Your friend is very talented. The sound/feel itself is great. But as KaitouKudou mentioned, it is a bit too much at times. Its unrelenting, fast pace doesn't allow for the music to 'breathe'. Combine this with the complex contrapuntal writing, the audience has a hard time catching up. For instance, when the piece has finished playing, will we remember the tune at the end?

Hi,
Im the friend thats been working on the piece and hes right its been about two years off and on. I thank you for your kind words and suggestions and welcome them. I have found through time that when you work on something for a long period you tend to lose full sight of the project. As was said the piece isnt finished yet and for now i welcome any ideas/ suggestions/ comments anyone has to offer thank you

will we remember the tune at the end?
That was actually my biggest concern. I was really awed that someone would actually spend their time creating such a huge piece with an obviously tremendous ammount of effort and dedication put into it - but nothing stuck in my head, so I was kinda like: What did I just get out of this?

Hm... Another little concern is the orchestration... :\ Sometimes your instruments are waaaaaay out of range, and you are waaaaaaaaaaay too heavy on the brass. I understand this piece tries to imitate baroque style, and for a school band, but using brass to present the melody most of the way is too heavy and another reason would be that in baroque era, brass weren't as widely used as modern days because it wasn't as highly developed and has a lot of restrictioin, so yeah, to some people's ears they'll find it awkward to have brass to play the main melody throughout. Thirdly, the woodwinds (other than the tenor saxes) are way too underused, flutes and clarinets aren't just for trills (and by the way, you could've used the trill line instead of writing it all out). Finally, you're killing the trumpeters. You hardly gave them any rest until bar 139. Just work on it a little, play around with it and rearrange it and it'll be fine! Not a bad piece at all. ;)

Well, the thing I liked about this 300-bar-composition was the use of counterpoint. Other than that it didn't seem to have any sense of direction and as SirDotdotdot said, the instrumentation is a bit fishy.
I beleive this is the longest composition on Ichigos yet ^^

Isn't this what I said...

It's good, but it's exactly the style that I completely hate. It's so repeditive of all those runs and notes-it's unbelevably annoying and a nuisance to my brain.
Accoring do the noteds and lining everything up to sound good, it's fantastic, but I hate this type of Barooque (or w/e) styled music.
