Hey people! Why don't we just start out by telling how much vocal experience we've had? Compared to some, people, I'm quite a youngblood, but I think I'm pretty dedicated for sixteen. I've been singing with a mind to make a living from the performing arts for about five years now.

I'm a decent singer, not to the degree of performing on stage but I'm decent enough to be good at karaoke~
I'm only an Alto though cos I can only hit up to high C which sucks
Sopranos get all the fun~

:P I'm a high soprano. Do you mean high c like one octave above middle c? I like karaoke, but I do chorus in my school and go to vocal camps and festivals.

If you can get up into the ledger lines, then I don't think you should be an alto. My highest note is a high d, I believe. Most teenage singers, even sopranos, can't get very far into the ledger lines. My school is well known for our music department, and in my chorus it's a big deal if you have a high c.

really? cos I can sing the C but for some reasons it doesn't seem like it's well in pitch, It dosen't seem like a whole octive lower but nor does it seem like the octive it's in... XD
It's the imaginary octive lol

Is it on the second ledger line? Or maybe you go flat or sharp on the note.

Let's see, I've been singing since I was kid, but like with the rest of my music, I've only become serious in the past month. My range... *sigh* When I was a kid, I could hit near the high end of the piano. Now, my range is the A below middle C to the C above middle C. A note or two above or below that range and I get squeaky...

Ummm... for me, the high C is not falsetto. In falsetto, I can go up to the second G above middle C.

Ummm... here's what I mean:

Red - Middle C
Green - My Highest Note
Blue - My Highest Falsetto Note

:heh:

EDIT: Actually, my highest note and my highest falsetto note are each an octave higher.

EDIT-2: Here's the accurate diagram.

Yeah, that's what I thought. sorry, I got confused because what I refer to as high c is one octave above your high c. And my previous conversation involved that note. Whoops.

 your range is the same as mines cos I'm a alto

If it was any higher then it would be creepy cos you'd be a Soprano XD
I actually knew a seventh grader who was a dude and a soprano he was pretty good... until puberty hits him :shifty:

I think I am a Tenor, but I have no vocal expierence at all [except for Elementary school-but they don't really offer 'training' like you would with a teacher, or in choir at middle school/high school] but I am said to have a great voice and can sing in tune [thanks to perfect pitch... :shifty: ] and also has a good tone.

But I might be an alto as well, but I can sing pretty low-clearly.

Just to give some random singing range facts to you people, guys who has a range of alto are called countertenor, and depending on age, if you're still a boy, and you can sing the soprano range, it's called boy soprano (pretty obvious, eh? :heh: ). But if you're older, you are considered as a castrato. ;) :)

castrato.

Am I the only one who connotates that term with excrutiating pain? XD

Anyways, sorry for getting off-topic...

Good facts. I didn't know those. Any chance you can tell me what a contralto is too?

@ marlon -- :bohaha: Took me a minute to get it, but I got it. LMAO.

Contralto is basically alto... Just an older term... :)

PS: I'm slow, I don't get the joke... :heh:

Edit: Never mind, I get it now... And another fact I just found out, before the romantic era (mostly at 14th/15th century, castrati(castratos) were erm... indeed castrati), but after 17/18th century, anyone with the same high range is considered castrato, so yeah, no harm... ;) :heh:

Eh... to go on the first topic that was brought up in this thread, I've been singing since the age of 4 (more like screeching, but I was so excited that I could sing xD can you blame me?), and had vocal training since the age of 5 or 6. In 7th grade, I did a B class Italian song for Solo and Ensemble at our Middle School, and got a 1 (perfect score), then in 8th, did an A class Italian (and I remember the name, it was Le Violette) for Solo And Ensemble and got a 1 again. This year, I am a freshmen in highschool, in the elite choir (Chamber Choir). Also, during the summer, I go to a church camp program called MADD (Music Arts Dance Drama, and it's been around longer than mothers against drunk driving, I assure you), where I sing at their talent show every year, and perform in their awsome choir. ^^ This year I got the chance to be a featured Soloist, so eh... that was cool. Anyways.

Eh... >>; However, my vocal range is rather..weird. I'm most comfortable singing Tenor/low alto parts for my own compositions, but I'm capable of singing a soprano part (O.o not...whistletone). I'm just not as loud. In other words, I have a well-developed chest voice, and it's only when I'm singing in between alto and soprano parts that I have to use my headvoice, which I end up using in the low registers too, when the songs' parts go that low then come back up.

I have the sheet music for Le Violette and have been trying to learn it, but I can't seem to get it. do you have an mp3 of it or something that you could attach to a post?

You mean with vocals, or without? I think I have the piano accompanyment CD around here somewhere, but I'd have to dig it up... however, I'd be happy to upload it, if that's what' you're looking for.

Oh yes... I should mention that the version of Le Violette, though A Class.. O.o apparently I did a revised and edited version, making it much easier than the version my choir instructor had. There are too many versions of the song out there, so I can't guarantee accuracy. ^^:

I'll post it up sometime tomorrow, if your answer is a yes.

With vocals, if you have it. If not, just post whatever you have.

Please and thank you!
