Higurashi no Naku Koro ni was originally a video game produced by amateurs that was a hit; the biggest hit since type-MOON released Tsukihime.
This anime/manga follows a little more complex storyline than most animes. It is divided into eight different sections: Four Question arcs, and Four Answer arcs. As if you were interviewing several people for a crime, you'll see a different story in each arc. That's right, they are entirely different from one another.
The anime is a horror / mystery at core. I was tricked by a member at Ayu fansubs with him saying "This is quite possibly the cutest anime I've ever seen. I highly suggest it." So I downloaded it I was expecting some type of Bincho-tan to walk onto the screen. Instead I was greeted by a person batting someone to death, full gore. Then it switched off into a harem like setting, and then goes into some schizophrenic moments. This is the first time in a long time that Japan has released a proper horror anime. This is the show you watch at midnight, with a good set of headphones, with the lights off.
This one I don't even need to finish. *places M stamp*

Adaption of the amateur created murder mystery computer game Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni developed by the studio 7th Expansion. Studio Deen will produce the animation.
The main character of the story is Maebara Keiichi, a young teenager, who has recently moved from the city to the rural village of Hinamizawa with his family. He`s adjusting pretty well to his new life, making several friends at his new and small school, playing games every day and passing his days in a bliss, when suddenly a murder case happens...
From that point on a mystery, which traces back to happenings five years ago, begins to unravel itself before him. But which is that he is bound to find out and more importantly, will he be able to digest the truth behind all of this.
