If you would consider elementary school ya. I played my whole 6 years there. It sucked cause we got a crappy teacher...who screamed everytime we were too "loud"

Doh! :P Wow, 6 years?! I was wondering...

1) What's a "Descant" Recorder?
2) What is the range on the average recorder? (I.E. 8ve+1 or 8ve+2, etc, 8ve meaning an octave.)
3) I've noticed that there are many types of recorders... would you know anything about the difference between "Baroque" fingering and "English" or "German" fingering?
4) I want to learn the recorder now, but I'm not sure if I could self-teach well... I've found out that there are many progressive course books for it but I've only found them for soprano and alto recorder. What about tenor? Would it be weird seeing a male playing a soprano/alto recorder?
5) Is there a bass recorder?

1)umm.. looking at the name id say a small very high pitched recorder
2)dont know, didnt play for that long
3)nope, id goole it
4)wouldnt seem wierd, learn on the usual recorder that the course books teach, finguring are basicly the same for the recorders, the self teach book are rather good for recorder, goot through one in an hour
5) cant remeber, google it (my favorite answer)

ayanami probably can remeber more, only one year for me

It's not too hard to self-learn the recorder, if you already can read music or know how to play another instrument, as I did it myself. Self learn as in, you can play a recognizable tune on it. As for sound quality and correct technique and stuff though, that's another story.

1) What's a "Descant" Recorder?
Same as Soprano

2) What is the range on the average recorder? (I.E. 8ve+1 or 8ve+2, etc, 8ve meaning an octave.)
Depends on which type of recorder

3) I've noticed that there are many types of recorders... would you know anything about the difference between "Baroque" fingering and "English" or "German" fingering?
I only know that the fingering for F,Bb,B is difference. It sounds abit flat for the Baroque

4) I want to learn the recorder now, but I'm not sure if I could self-teach well... I've found out that there are many progressive course books for it but I've only found them for soprano and alto recorder. What about tenor? Would it be weird seeing a male playing a soprano/alto recorder?
Tenor is the same as soprano

5) Is there a bass recorder?
Yes

Wow, thanks, everyone. :D Especially Fuzzy! :D So if I were to purchase the collection of the Suzuki Recorder School books for Soprano Recorder, the notes would be the same as a tenor, just an octave lower?

I'm thinking of starting up the tenor recorder... Less shrill than the soprano and it plays notes as written. the soprano is actually written one octave below the actual pitch of the soprano recorder.

HMM, THE RECORDER, I USE TO PLAY THE DESCANT RECORDER, KINDA SMALL, BUT IT WAS OKAY. DON'T ASK ME QUESTIONS I ONLY PLAYED FOR 2 YEARS!

BUT MY TEACHER SHOWED US VARIETY OF RECORDERS, I KINDA FORGOT THE NAMES, BUT THE BEST RECORDER MY TEACHER EVER SHOWED TO US WAS REALLY LONG, LIKE A STICK, U CAN SAY, ITS PRETTY COOL, SINCE IT CAN HIT THE DESCANT, ALTO AND SOPRANO PITCHES.
