Why can't I be blessed with richer parents.
I hate you.
~~
With this Acrosonic, I can only sound WORSE than I actually play-tends why I never post recordings as often as I would like to. When I went to Bradford's Piano Store across town, I sat down at a Pearl River and, the same I played on my piano, was absolutely flawless. It was like a recording.
If I heard myself like that everyday, I'd have the most confidence that I could wish for.

Was that for me? Dont worry, that piano was actualy very cheep compared to who much it would have for a brand new one. And that piano of mine is going to have to last for my whole life.

Yes, I hate you. Lol. Was just kidding-was more said for a shock factor. ;)
Anyway for that piano I guess that's a good price, but for me to actually level up, I need a grand/baby.
Though, all the painos we've found this summer were crap, and decided we are just going to tune mine and get the string completely replaced.

Man, Water Demon, what piano store did your parents rob to get that grand. I really wish that I could get a grand, but they like a bunch of money. All I got is a Baldwin Spinet piano. I used to have a Upright piano. But that thing was so out of tune that It made the song "Near the Cross" sound like a tragedy type song.

Some typical-looking upright black german piano that no one's ever heard of: Krützer. Heard of it? No. Didn't think so. I want a grand but they're so much money *looks in wallet and dust comes out* and it wouldn't fit in my living room anyways. =/
I also play the flute, another brand that no one's ever heard of: Paramount Sonatina. Heard of it? No. Didn't think so. It kind of sucks. Boo. Bought it 'coz I... *looks in wallet again and sniffs* Yeah someone broke into my locker and stole all my money and my friend's cell phone. I will find them and string them from a lamp post, yeah!! Off topic. Grr.
I used to play an Armstrong flute back in middle school, it was so beautifulll... but it was a rental.. I miss it..
Remember children! If you've never heard of it, IT SUCKS! Trust me.

My primary instrument is the Violin. I forgot what type it is (and I'm too lazy to run all the way downstairs and check), but I've had it for 2 years, and it's my fourth violin (In the past, I only replaced my violin when I needed to goup a size, but I'm a full size now...)
I (I meaning my parents bought it) also own a Steinway grand piano which I've owned since I was about 7 or 8...my mom thinks she can play the piano, but she really can't play that well.

Piano and voice.
Piano: We have a upright... German stuff, brilliant piano that I am afraid I may break because I'm more used to playing a Bechstein piano in school now. Rumour has it we're getting a Kawai piano but who know! x_x I've done Grade 5 and going towards Grade 8 (working on GCSE stuff right now @_@)
Voice: Mezzo sop. :bleh: I can reach higher, I just don't try. Highest note record is a high A above middle C  But that's quite low. And then I can reach lower than many sops so yeah... Mezzo sop for me.

1. Violin (My first ever instrument. I started back in the fourth grade. Love it passionately but stopped in sophomore year in high school since I couldn't keep up with the kids that got private lessons.)
2. Kayagum (Korean zither/harp. Mandatory if you're taking traditional Korean dancing. Make sure you have callouses built up before attempting to play it. First time players end up with blistered and bleeding fingers.)
3. Changu (Korean drums. Mandatory for traditional Korean dancing. Not my most favorite of instruments but it's better than the piano.)
4. Piano (I hate playing it and play it only when I'm severely stressed out. You can thank my previous piano teacher for my loathing of touching the instrument. She was 'abusive' with her teaching methods. On the other hand, despite my loathing of touching it, I do enjoy LISTENING to it.)
5. Harp-Concert Grand Lyon and Healy 85 CG series:
I am a harpist and darned proud of it. The most unfortunate thing is that more often than not I have to rearrange piano pieces in order to play them on the harp especially with game music. Sigh. It's a lovely instrument though a tad heavy but it's one that I'm happiest with since not only is it gorgeous but also very soothing to the soul.
Others: I briefly played cello and viola at one point in middle school as well as the ocarina. (I have the disposition of playing the most obscure of instruments.)

Actually, I do have a piano (an upright Yamaha, forgot the model) back at my parents house (miles away from where I live..). But since they live on another continent...
..I've got a Yamaha PSR-2000 keyboard which I use as a piano substitute (since I'm too poor to buy a piano).
And also, an electric guitar (Ibanez) and a 5 snares electric bass (Gio Ibanez). They're actually my brothers', but I'm playing with those too (every now and then...more like messing around with those).

For lessons, I either play on a 1987 Steinway & Sons Baby Grand Piano or a 1980 Bosendorfer Concert Grand Piano (with extra keys all the way down to FFF instead of AAA)...
And one day, I will own a Bosendorfer Grand Piano. =D

Wow, I didn't know someone would actually find that old post of mine. Anyway, our piano was a "You haul it, you keep it for free" kind of deal. It's an older "upright" schoolhouse piano. It's a Baldwin: Acrosonic. It has a pretty nice sound, but the touch isn't anything to brag about. Very light keys, so playing loud isn't a problem at all (And when you're know for your strong hands. . ehhh), but I know it's about the pianist, but you still need to practice on more universal instruments, such as full-size Grands by Steinways. If you just want to learn to play the piano, anything will really do, but if you want to make a life out of it, something's gotta give at one time or another. ;)

I love flutes, so I collect them. I have a pan flute, a di zi, and two ocarinas. One is a linear ten-hole, and the other is a transverse 12-hole alto C with a Japanese fingering pattern. Though the only one I can play decently is the ten-hole.
EDIT: Wow, after browsing through this forum, I've realized just how much of a noob I am at this. Nearly everyone else here has gone to band practice and are playing more complicated instruments. I never got to play a band instrument in school because it was too expensive.

I've been a drummer for about 17 years. I just started playing piano last summer. I'm picking it up pretty quick.
I've got lots of songs in my head, and I figured I need to pick up something more "musical" so that I can make them a reality. I'm a pretty long way from composing my own stuff though. I'm very happy with my progress though. Depending on how busy I am with my new job I'm starting in a few weeks, I might start taking lessons on the weekends.

I'm sure I need to learn more about the flute, but I know a bit. I know differences between different manufacturers and what difference the material makes, how to tune it to a piano, I can usually guess what's wrong when something's wrong with it, et cetera. I recently learnt some history too... XD But as I mentioned already, I need to learn more. ^_^

Just out of curiosity, how proficient are you guys with your instruments?
Let's put it this way.
I play viola in community and college pit orchestras.
My going rate is about 200 dollars for a show (not a performance, just the show itself), 300 if it runs more than two weeks. And, I sightread most of the music, but there's something I normally have to practice. Like, the Cyclone in the Wizard of Oz for example. Only professionals can sightread that stuff.
Piano, I just finished Clair de Lune (with finishing touches and all), so I guess that put me at late inter./early advanced?

I play a Geminhardt flute with a 13k gold emboucher plate. The silver is probably the best you can find, as it has not lost its lustre after four years of playing it. ^^ And it has the most beautiful tone anyone has ever heard! (how my dad managed to get a flute like this for me when I was in grade 6, I have no clue!)
I also play a really antique piano. I forgot what its name was, but it's out of tune and the sound isn't so good. -.-
And let's not forget the Northland Accoustic Guitar I play. ^^; But I only use it for songwriting and performing my own songs.

Nice. xD I love how people are complaining about their cheap instruments, and someone comes and non-chalantly (sp?) says they have a strad. Is it a real one or a model? (either way, its still pretty badass =D)
I have a strad trumpet.
Anyway, why is it that most people on this forum seem to be woodwind and string players?

-Howarth S45C with third octave oboe
-William Squire upright from grand piano

-Electric guitar which i got cheap
-Roland ep-5 digital piano
-Yamaha something clarinet
-A sopranino, descant, treble and tenor recorder
-Some panpipes
-another two old oboes
I think thats it.. I play lots. Im after a flute and a garklein recorder now =X

I play the piano, violin, cello, violin bass (that really big orchestra instrument), and am currently teaching myself to play the acustic (sp?) guitar.
I just obtained a really beautiful sounding upright piano for a good price of like 3000 dollars. I need to get a new violin though, I think something is loose on the inside. It buzzs when I play it. Annoying. -.-

I play oboe, english horn, bagpipes, piano and native american flute.
Oboe's a professional fox, bagpipes a dunbar, and no idea what my piano is, its too old and crappy to tell (or care).
As for proficiency, I'm best with oboe and english horn, in the top band at my school, youth orchestras, etc. I've played piano for years, but still seriously suck, and I've only got my full set of pipes this year.

I've played the violin for nine years now, so that would technically be the instrument that defines who I am as a musician. But I also play the Irish tin whistle, soprano recorder, viola, tenor ocarina, a little bit of piano, and I've gone to competition as a Soprano vocalist.

Hi,
Since I'm ten years I've played trombone. A lot of people think, that it's an strange and unnormal instrument, but I LOVE it. When I celebrated my 12th birthday my mother surprised me with an AMAZING basstrombone.
Before I learned piano over seven years, but I becomes too busy so I stopped it and now i just thrum when I have the time I never have.
Oh, and I also played flipple flute and Bass Guitar. In Germany a lot of kids have to learn flipple flute and everyone is just HATING it. (;

I play... a Salvi Classical Harp with 46 strings (...a 47 stringed one could cost several thousand £'s more XD) I forget the exact number or whatever though.
And I play a really rubbish, out of tune, upright piano that I don't remember the make of ^___^ weeeell, it was either that or my ancient old casio keyboard (that's also out of tune and does nothing in the way of dynamics XD)

Saxophone, mainly tenor saxophone since that's the one I own, lol. Especially now that I'm in college and ain't in band anymore, tenor saxophone is the only thing I play. I don't play as much as I used to, just from time to time. I still like it though. I just don't like people hearing me practice, so it's hard finding time to practice, lol. It's a Selmer Super Action 80 Series III.
