Jazz.. Preludes.
Ok first off, study and check out George Gershwin's Three Piano Preludes then. He was considered one of the first to give jazz that orchestral feel, and also composed three great (my favorite is the first) preludes for piano. It's technically jazz anyway, so that might be a plus.
Mainly a prelude is something that is either an opening to something, or can be considered a theme. I have studied preludes ofr about 8 months now, and they can be a wide range from a short song, to somewhat a long fantasie or fantasia.
My suggestion, if you would want to, is to check these preludes out:
Chopin- 24 Preludes
Debussy- Preludes Book 1 & 2
Gershwin- Three Piano Preludes
I would really check Chopin's as well. That's what I consider a GOOD prelude set actually. The first I listened to in an entire set. Look up Evgeny Kissin's recordings of Chopin's preludes expecially. Plays them with the best, I critique, the best interpretation of them.
Other than that, here's what the definition of a prelude is:
1- An instrumental composition intended to introduce a larger composition or a set of compositions.
2- A short composition(s) for the piano.
3- A compositions which establishes the key for a composition that immediately follows.
Also my definition:
1- A song that is written for any instrument or arrangement that has a destinct theme or feeling that is an opening, or music discription, of something.
Glad to be of some help.

Uh, could you re-instate that question.
From this your asking,
"I'm interested, and want, to compose jazz music. Can someone work on a song and teach me it?"
It doesn't make sence.

Some good artists (that I prefer)
Keith Jarrett
George Gershwin
Charlie Parker
Dave Rubeck
~~
I like Bebop also. That's possibly my favorite type of Jazz, and the funnest out there as well.

The best way is probably just to listen to a lot of jazz enough to get a feel for it.
