I bought this Yamaha PSR-172

i got a midi cable to connect from this keyboard to the comp, but i have no idea how to make CakeWalk pro 6 to detect this signal from this keyboard to make it work.

There's no software that comes with ths keyboard either...so weird

really need help...thx

Lol, I have the same problem with CakeWalk Pro Audio 9 =_=

I know that all you have to do is connect the keyboard and set cakewalk to use the [whatever midi port you have] as the default port for input. Too bad for me it still doesn't work if I do that =_=

I remember a program that worked, but that's actually made for Windows 3.1, not the most ideal program I guess  I'll see if I can find it though. Think it was called Midisoft Recording session

Maybe I can help you guys out.. Firstly insert the MIDI cables, and then go to the Volume Control at the lower right on your desktop. There, choose your input device to "MIDI" and you should be all set. Now Cakewalk will automatically respond and you can start playing and recording after you'v created a MIDI track. ( Insert > MIDI track )
