I noticed there wasn't any thread here that's discussing Noir and as I just finished watching the series I'd like to discuss it. Say anything, just don't call it blatant fan service.

I'd like to hear everyone's opinion on this series. What you liked/didn't like, that sort of thing.

The ending is perfect, I won't give away any spoilers but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Chloe is definitely great, the episode where she is the only main character is awesome.

I haven't watched Noir for a couple months now, but the series is really good. I liked it...Chloe was a pretty cool character, but I think I liked Kirika better. Hmm maybe I should watch it again...

The ending was ok, but my favorite part was

<spoiler>
When Chloe dies. She's my favorite anime character ever, and it was really sad, but the scene itself was absolutely amazing. When she bashes out at mirielle, and kirika stabs her with the fork she gave her. It was obviously going to happen, but the tension of the scene was still spectacular. The only thing more tense was the end of episode twelve of Now and Then, Here and There.

I'm awaiting episode 17 from my local library. So far, good story and good music, but I think there needs to be more action...

I love how they make the killing completely bloodless...it's very interesting. When I first saw that, I was like...is the blood coming soon? It just brings a different feel to the anime...

I like the way they play down the action and the killings. It really allows them to focus on the human aspects of the characters. It kind of just says "Okay, these people are realy good at killing and they'll keep on being really good at killing, now let's get to the interesting part: why they kill."

I think my favourite episode would have to be the episode where they go to Russia and have to kill the old man. It starts showing that Kirika isn't just an emotionless killing machine.

I like Noir's story and music, but I find the series to be not-so-interesting to follow... after seeing an episode, I'm not dying to see the next one.

Where are you in the series? I felt more or less the same way until it moves into the home stretch at about episode 18, then I couldn't stop watching.

I've watched it up to episode 8, and I think that Noir scores highly at almost every level. The animation is stunning, the music is beautiful and the storyline is fantastic.

It's one of my personal favorites...actually, I think i'll add some noir orientated drawings to my sketchbook. I've never thought about doing that until now.

this is definatly my favorite anime series by far. Yeah, it's slow at the beginning, but the personalities of the characters is so deep, especially Kirika and Chloe. I can't wait for Noir 2 (I hope the rumors are true...) XD

Hmm... Noir 2? I'm not sure they can top the the first series. I mostly liked it because it's emotional impact was huge. Seeing Kirika slowly becoming more human and having to deal with things outside killing. That's probably why my favourite episodes are the Russia one and the painting one.

I think Noir is overrated, and especially Chloe. I don't think she's that cool at all, in fact, she's annoying.

I think it's underrated if anything =P Well, actually I don't believe much in "Overrated / Underrated" animes, since it's only opinions of different people.

;_;

When I say I think a series is overrated, it pretty much means that I think too many people scream too loud that the series is extremely great, then you watch it and it's just dissapointing. Noir was good, but great? No, far from that.

It's one of those series that there isn't much middle ground on. You more or less either like or don't. That may contribute to your feeling it's overrated because if you don't like something, it's hard to see why someone else would. Noir is one of my favourite pieces of visual based work ever. That's basically taking into account movies, TV and games. I don't bother trying to stack those things up to literature because it just doesn't work but Noir is, in my eyes, brilliant.

Since most of the people who like it like it quite a bit it makes sense that it would seem overrated. It isn't like all of these people who say they love it are lying just to get you to watch a mediocre anime, they truly enjoy it.

yeah, I hate it when that happens... I love it when I go in expecting nothing and end up with something I love (like Noir in this case)

Fight Club was the total opposite for me... everyone was raving about how this was the best cinematic work ever, and when I finally saw it expecting the best, I was severly disappointed. I still liked it, but it wasn't what everyone was claiming, and that ruined the film for me.

I liked Noir because where I come from, it's terribly 'underrated'. So it was a good turn for me.

Everything good is underrated here, but on forums Noir is heavily overrated. The story is ok, but most characters are so annoying (especially Mireille who thinks she's really something, Chloe and Altena also are the kind of people who make no sense - although Chloe being brainwashed for all her life has an excuse. Fun fact: my mum's maiden name is Altena - lol). Also the story, which is so terribly slow and full of unrealistic crap (hundreds of guys with guns and they can't even hit a girl who's standing three metres away? Kind of lame =_= ). Also the lack of blood is stupid. I'm not saying there should be litres of blood from each wound but you can't shoot someone without some blood being spilt.

Yes, at times Noir can be rather unrealistic, but show be an anime that is ealistic all the time. There just aren't many out there. As for the lack of blood, I like it because it really downplays the killing aspect, allowing you to see it from Kirika and Mireille's point of view where killing is just a part of life and not an atrocity. I agree that the story is extremely slow until the last 8 episodes or so but that doesn't bother me that much, it allows them to really show a lot about the characters and keeps the story from getting too convoluted. As for the characters, I think I just read deeper into them than you and ended up enjoying them more (except Chloe but I still felt sorry for her) but I can see why you would feel the way you do.

The fact that there are no blood scenes is pretty cool, and well thought over. I usually don't go to forums to get anime recomendations, because there are always people who scream out their favorite anime, and people who bash them into the wall. I watch whatever anime I think looks interesting to watch =.= So that's why I watched Noir.

I read that TV Toyko wouldn't show Noir if there was blood, so they left it out

Talk about lame =_= Guess Noir was directed towards a slightly younger audience then Oo; like 12 - 18 or so, instead of 18+ (Hellsing)

Actually, most TV companies wouldn't show it either. They said something about it on German Television.

Germans are lame when it comes to stuff like that though, they don't count.

I didn't say only Germans do that, but that I saw it on German TV. A lot of countries view Noir because of its cut-out blood scenes. :)

I didn't say only Germans do it, but they are extremely lame with that. Killer Instinct (SNES fighting game by RARE) was prohibited over there. Actually, everything with violence is. Carmageddon had zombies at first and later robots.
