Hey everybody, just gonna throw some of my paintings up here, just so that you all know that even though I'm *completely* horrible at music, im not hopeless when it comes to all art. X3

Sadly, the file sizes for my paintings are too large to attach on the forums, so I guess I'll just link you to them in my photobucket...I hope you guys don't mind that too much, sorry to be a bother. ^ ^"

A Rose:

I quite like your drawings, you have you're own style, which is always nice to see.

I think the stem of your rose is a bit too thick but nevertheless i like it.
Your snail and King crab are very cute ^_^, and very drawn too!

Haha, thanks for the comments Moon.
And yes, the stem of the rose is definately a bit too thick...and I totally noticed the problem around halfway through painting it. The problem was, I promised myself that I wouldn't sleep until I'd finished the painting, and it was already 3am when I noticed the problem, so I just said "aaaah, fudge it!" and decided to just be more careful next time. XD Also, the reflection of the rose in the water isn't inverted, I was too tired (lazy) to fix that too X3

Thanks again for the comments, appreciated! ^_^

are those watercolors?

nice, real nice...but your colors seem to....scramble? in some places (like the dudes chest in the last pic)

Do you mean under his cape? The little line things? That was actually intentional, I was trying to show that his shirt was made out of some rough material (Failed I guess! :heh: )
And yes, they're watercolor...kind of. I use the program OpenCanvas to paint on my computer, so they're simulated watercolor I guess. Haha XD
Thanks for the compliment too ^ ^

@Radical Dreamer: Haha, thanks - and if those were *actual* watercolors, I'd be a god among artists XD

@Aries: Lol, thanks for the compliment, and I know what you mean on the last one, I don't draw people often, and I really need some work in that department.

Thanks for the critiques guys ^_^

The rose is most definitely my favorite one. It's very well done even if the stem is a bit bigger than it should be. It adds character. *grins* Very nice. I can't paint worth beans but I can draw a little.

Zippy: lol, thanks! And yes, they're digital paintings ^ ^
Piano Misstress: Thank you too, that's exactly the excuse I gave myself so I could stop painting the rose actually - "The stem adds *character!*" lol XD
Also, I'm sure you could paint if you tried it for a bit. I can paint pretty well, but I'm pretty weak when it comes to lineart, we just practice different parts of drawing! X3

Haha, thanks a lot Xetrox, but I'm nowhere near a professional artist. :heh:

Give me another year though, kekekekekeke :shifty:

ah, but you're good! give yourself some credit

Thanks for the compliment Aries. ^ ^

I try to give myself only the credit I deserve. I'm good, especially since I've only been painting a year now. That being said, I could be a lot better, and there are a *lot* of people who are better than me. That doesn't bother me though; it's just more motivation to push myself harder. ^_^

nice! I really liked the rose. it looked beautiful. do you like using watercolor?

RD

I assume not, because he uses digital programs to "paint".

Watercolors look way more better then that :\

HopelessComposer
September 16th, 2006, 03:17 am
@Sakura: Thank you very much, I appreciate it. ^ ^ But I never really got into watercolors, I'm mainly a digital artist. :3

@Radical Dreamer: You assumed correctly, I almost never use watercolors; I do use digital mediums to paint. (Notice the lack of quotation marks - digital painting is as just a valid medium as any other. It's just as tough to learn, beautiful, and meaningful as any physical medium. If you don't believe me, try it yourself!) ;D

Also, watercolors can be simulated PERFECTLY on the computer. Half the "watercolor" paintings you see nowadays are probably actually digital paintings. The only reason my paintings don't look like watercolors is because I choose for them not to look so; I quite enjoy the way digital paint looks. ;P

Watercolors cant and probably never will be simulated perfectly. The reasons so it that watercolors never dry the same colors that is applied [even for professionals], the way it bleeds can only be simulated by the most complex of programs out there, the brush strokes wont be seen and you cant get that "human touch".

HopelessComposer
September 16th, 2006, 10:16 pm
So you're saying watercolors can't be simulated because they look different when they dry? What's so hard about simulating that exactly? I'm pretty sure computers can make random colors. What exactly is the "human touch?" I'm pretty sure I applied every stroke in my paintings- did they lose this mystical "human touch" because the colors didn't "dry the same color that was applied?"

I'm not sure I understand your logic, or even what exactly you're getting at.^ ^"
What is this "human touch" exactly?

You, an obvious avid fan of physical mediums said so yourself earlier in this thread that you thought my paintings were actual watercolors before I stated otherwise. You also seemed IMPRESSED that I could pull such paintings off with physical watercolors. However, after you realized that they were not actual watercolor paintings, you went on to say "Watercolors look way more better than that." That seems pretty contradictory to me. How is it that they only lost this "human touch" after I told you that my paintings were digital? Explain that.

If I had to explain that, I'd say you were still a young artist, filled with romantic ideas about how technology is evil, and how it steals the soul out of artwork, when you're actually not nearly familiar enough with art to make that conclusion. Let me clue you in on a little secret: Watercolors don't grow in the wild. They didn't always exist. They're technology too. Also, they're old technology, and while still viable and beautiful in their own right, are nowhere near as advanced or as versatile as digital paints are.

....So there. ;P

Also, don't you think it's a little foolish to think that watercolors "cannot, and probably never will be simulated perfectly?"
We, as humans, have acquired the power to:

-Fly
-Build things that go thousands of miles an hour
-Cure numerous diseases
-Survive on this planet, despite being oddly physically weak in the animal kingdom, based on our amazing intelligence alone
-Travel into space
-Explode our planet
-And you know, a ridiculous number of amazing other things

Considering all that, I think it sounds a bit silly to claim that we can't simulate the effects of a few strokes of wet paint drying, don't you? ^ ^

Hehe. Your crab and snail remind me of Okage villains. I'm hella jealou of your talent.

Well, the rose, in my opinion, wasn't really that good because the stem was a straight stick. It makes it look unthoughtfully made, kinda. The other ones we're pretty cool. I especially like the "happy-glass" one. Well, nice job. :)

Yeah, we do practice different types of art ^_^. I actually have some drawings on this sight if you are interested in seeing them. My specialty is black and white pencil drawings. Once in a blue moon will I color them, typically I only do that by request if I draw something for someone else. Anyway, great work. ^_^. Take care and God bless.

Oops, sorry for taking so long to answer everyone, I kind of forgot about this thread for a bit ^ ^"
Anyway!
Nabooru: I drew those before I played Okage, but uhm, I adore Okage's art, so thanks a lot! :3

Marlon: lol, yeah, the rose...ah well, I'll have to try harder next time I guess. X3 I'm glad you liked the others. ^ ^

Piano Mistress: Haha, indeed we do. And of course, I'd love to see any art you have to offer. :3
