Hi to all,

I'm working on a major evolution of my website (http://sodaorat2.free.fr), it's about (as specified in the title) a directory of Anime transcriptions of the Web named SODA (Sheet music Open Directory of Anime transcriptions)
It's something similar to Josh's master index, but with a home-made search engine.

I'm talking to all of you about that, because it something that is really useful. A search engine can filter easily all you want to search. That's why I worked hard on it ;)
So I need everyone's help and also transcribers' consentements, remarks about that.

For transcribers:
---------------
SODA will only keep the anime titles, songs titles of your transcriptions, and a link to the website where you host the transcriptions. (I will host with pleasure transcriptions of transcribers who don't have their own website)
When someone clicks on the sheet music, it will be redirected to the website page (as it is done in josh's master index). I should be great since it will help to grow more traffic to your website :)

I hope that transcribers are OK with that. I'm open to suggestions.

Future possible features:
- Profile for each transcriber: If you are OK to display your profile, you will send me your personal informations. A description of yourself will be displayed when someone clicks on your transcriber name (website, email, full name, hobbies, etc...)
- A Wiki where each sheet music can be commented by transcribers: for mistakes especially. It will help to make sheet music of quality.

For people:
----------
SODA is made for people who search anime sheet music (for the moment, it will be extended to asian pop if all works well ;) )
Search is based on 4 criterias:
- Anime title
- Song title
- Instrument
- Transcriber

So you can list all sheet music for a specific instrument, from a specific transcriber!
The complete list is also available by leaving empty all the fields.

I would like to hear your suggestions: useful features, comments, ...
I will also need your search experience to put in a possible future Wiki (or in the forum) the links to anime/JPOP/KPOP/chinese pop where you find sheet music.

I'm in the step where I gather all sheet music info and put it in my database.

I made a test version of SODA with only a few sheet musics (from josh's website, and soon from ichigos) in
http://sodatest.free.fr/public/index.php5?action=SODA
There are errors: it's normal since I didn't copy all the website, it's just a test site. Just use SODA (at the left of the page)
You can already test and make some reactions, I'm waiting for them :)

Thanks in advance for your support.

Hey, I was working on something like this too! Now I'll look like a copycat ;__;

Oh well, it's all good :D :D Haven't really tried it out yet, as I'm at work right now... but if there's anything I can help with, just let me know. (I'll give you access to my master-index data file, if you want)

That's really cool.

As a transcriber, I'm alright with putting a profile and junk. A suggestion: Maybe you could have a potential sheet music page. Like what are transcribers working on and stuff. Or maybe a "most requested list". Granted that would be kind of hard, but cool.

I wasn't sure what you meant about that, but if you're looking for sites that host that kind of stuff, mine does and also look at oddrealm.

Hehe It seems I've been faster than you ;)
I'm interested in your master-index data file, maybe it will help me, though I think that the page itself should be enough.
However, I will use your several links of anime sheet music, it will be helpful :)
About help, I'm happy to have some support ;-) Well if you know other anime websites, I think that you'll put them on your master index; but if you (and anyone else) happen to know Jpop/Kpop/Chinese Pop sheet music and associated websites, It'll be great.

Yes I thought of that: I think it will be a Wiki. I'll make something like "How use the wiki for transcribing matters". But I focus a lot now on my search engine and the extraction of existing data on anime sheets (It's lot of work -___-)

I thought of the links in the master index of josh at first. I don't remember if yours is in his master index
Anyway if you happen also to know some Jpop or kpop websites with sheet music, let me know :)

Yeah, I'm there. I'm just starting out (less than a year running), but I'm still there.

This is Oddrealm's sheets. (http://www.oddrealm.com/piano/index.php?viewCat=4)

Thanks for the link man.

Well I'm working now on the extraction of Ichigo's sheet music. I wonder if I should keep the Games sheet music or not...

I also think that I'll keep them. It's always good to keep more than not enough ^^
And it would be a pity to put aside the great work of ichigos and the other transcribers!

BTW, Ichigos' sheets are in the database now!

Hi,

I've encountered a minor problem and I ask for your advice.
For each transcriber, I associate a unique website. It's easy for ppl who have their own website, but it's different for ppl who submit their transcriptions to website owners. Some transcribers submit to different websites, for example josh and ichigos.
Consequently, I have to associate only one website by default for these transcribers.

The transcribers concerned are:
- Curry Wu (Ichigos) and Currywu (Josh). The same person, but I put josh's website by default
- R.: 3 sheets in ichigos, 1 in josh. I put josh by default
- Muralasa : 2 sheets in animescores, more in josh. I put josh by default
- TABASCHRITAR: 1 in animescores , 1 in ichigos. Ichigos is by default

For me, the best solution is to host all the sheets of one transcriber in only one website, the best is the default one. I think Josh's website is ok for that since he updates often his website.
But we will need both agreements from all the transcribers and the hosters.
Also, this is a bit constraining for ppl who host them...

So to conciliate both sides, I thought of detailing in the transcriber's profile all the websites where he posted sheet music, with one by default. So in the result page, the link provided will be the default link, and if the sheet hasn't been found, the searcher has to find in the profile the other sites where the transcriber has submitted his sheets.
It will also motivate the transcriber to host his submissions in only one website.

What do you think of that?

I don't mind, but see below...

Hmm, I don't think this is a good idea... it's a search engine you're making, right? I think you should make it as easy as possible for your visitors to find what they're looking for.

It will also motivate the transcriber to host his submissions in only one website.

But isn't this an unnecessary restriction? I can understand how one might want his or her work distributed as widely as possible...

Yes, you're right, Josh. I've already thought of that, but when you have technical/time contraints, I have to choose.
I can't associate to *each* anime sheet music a website, since there are more than 2000 sheets repertoried. I chose to associate a website to each transcriber: to manage it's far more practical and prevents from lots of error management (and loss of time).

I though more about the matter: I'll associate a different name transcriber, like "R._ICHIGOS" for sheets in ichigos, and "R._JOSH" for sheets in josh.

Thanks for your answer josh :)

SODA (Search-based Open Directory of Anime & game sheet music) is now online! You can now search the sheet music according to criterias.
SODA is also open to all transcribers: If you want your sheet music to be in the database, contact me!

I'll implement other fonctions later:
- Wiki especially

Have fun!

Thanks Sondagger! I really spent LOTS of time to make it (every evening after work, the week ends, and not enough sleep x_x ) but finally I made it.

My great desire is to make easier the research of anime/game sheet music on the web, so I hope in the future that transcribers/musicians will cooperate more to gather a maximum of anime/game sheet music related websites.
