Those were the worst 11 seconds I've ever heard on this forum I think. From where did you get this 'assignment'? Cos if it's composition class, then I'd suggest you to take another path of life.

sorry. :\

they told us to do a march.... I tried my best. I'm so sorry, I knew it wasnt good but I didn't think it was that bad. Oh, gosh I wish I hadn't signed up..... *embarassment*

When I think of a march I think of drums playing the same drum over and over very fast, with a nice rythm. Brass playing a melody + bass. And maybe add bass drums.
If you want to do a nice march I think the easiest way is to get a drum line with using 16th notes, some trumpet melody and maybe tuba/trombone as a bass line?

You don't have to be sorry, it's just that there's *nothing* in this piece which is of interest. I'm guessing you're a beginner (please tell me you're a beginner... x_x ) so what I would do in your case is to listen to the type of music you're trying to achive, and think to yourself what it is in that song which makes it good. That way, you'll pick up elements used in other songs to benefit your own composing.

Thankyou! I'm great with music theory, that's why I got on the course. practical and theory i'm fine with.... it's the composition that gets me shaking ^^

Yes, there's quite a difference. But it almost sounds like you're forced into composing. If this is to push yourself or if that music class *made* you do it, then I'd not give into it too much. Composing can only succeed if you're commited to it by 100%

Thankyou :)

Don't get me wrong, I mean I do need to be able to compose, but I'd also love to learn how ^^. It's all I've got to do at the minute.... so this ones better? isn't as stodgy... hehe

I don't think it's that bad. Next time try making it a bit longer, and follow a logical patern in question and answer form, if that makes any sense to you. You have some potential :shifty:

Noir said all I wanted to say... But I do sense your good intent in your jazz piece.. ;)

I've heard worse on these forums. *Cringes at memory* Nevermind, I won't say any names...

Anyway, it seems a forced, like your really trying to implement theory but you don't have a whole lot of...Emotional drive, I guess. Nothing that really catches my interest or anything, it is somewhat robotic I think.

Just keep trying at it though. I suggest you listen to some great music (In the genre you are trying to compose) and study it. :)

I thought the jazz one really had character. There was a randomness to it that I actually liked lol. the march...I've heard worse given the 6bar condition, I guess it was a good try. I doubt you will become the next biggest composer but since you say you're good with theory, I'm sure you can begin to write better the more you practice. Don't give up! believe in yourself:lol:

Wow, heheh...Yeah, Noir pretty much said everything. I mean, it was your first time ever trying to compose something. I actually think my first "composition" was much, much worse. I still have it to remind myself of how bad I was, hahah. I say keep practicing and you'll definitally get better.

Darn... I'd listen, but I don't have the program to open it. I'll have to get that program that most of you guys use, sometime. But right now my internet is going way too slow for certain reasons. I'll be sure to listen when I can.

Edit: Oh, yay! You changed it to a Midi file!

Edit again to avoid double post: Way to go, Toaster! That was MUCH better than your previous 2 experiments, lol. I love the piano at 2 seconds (The bass part). Some of the right handed stuff didn't match exactly with the bass, but still it was much better. Keep at it!
