Does anyone else dislike the time when seating time comes around? :P I always get so nervous... I usually get in one of the top 5 chairs for my string orchestra class (out of like 30 violinists), but I wish I could get 1st... I got it once, but then the teacher told me it was "a mistake" and made us reseat, thus making me 3rd chair. :( We're seating again when school gets back in sessions, on Bach's "Fugue in G Minor"... I'm going to practice it so much until it's perfect. :)

1st chair violinist? Isn't that reserved for the best performer or famous guests? In any case, just continue to practice hard (getting 3rd is still pretty great), and someday you will be the best, and you will get that seat. ;)

It never really mattered to me since I'm a woodwind. There's usually only one person per part and almost all of the parts are just as good as any other, you only want first chair to get all the solos.

Yay, I'm first chair!!! but I do believe that everybody should have a fair share in the part dividing.

Their is a live-long tradition at my school that first chair always get's the solo's, first part, and anything specal to go along with it.

I believe that parts should be evenly divided, solos giving to those whom play it the best, and everything being a mutual (sp?) agreement.

:EDIT:

Yay, I was promoted in marching band; Now I'm "Field Sargent (sp?)"

Haha, I hate solos. Maybe that's why I'm third chair :D

I had 4th chair for months. Occasionally I'd hop around the first four chairs, but luckily not at the wrong times. My teacher gives the first part to the first four chairs at most. Now, since it's summer, I'm practicing for a spot in CODA band.

My friend is last. his name is Vincent Ou-Yang and he's a fat pig who's actually quite healthy. I don't think that made any sense so...his AIM is solbadguy3000 if anyone wants to laugh at him. JK
