Hi to all,

I made a wiki for transcribers and ppl who search sheet musics. We all want a common place to manage:
- Sheet music requests
- Who transcribe what?
- Transcribers' progress for their sheet music

This Wiki can be very useful if everyone (transcribers and ppl who make sheet music requests) makes an effort :)
Don't hesitate to contact me for further informations, for improvements, suggestions.

I will illustrate how it can be used:

- For Requesters:
* You have to go to the concerned section (Anime, Video Game or Asian pop).
* Go to the list of Websites to search if you don't find your sheet music (SODA Sheets or Josh's website for master index)
* In the List of Sheet music Request, if you don't find your request, edit the page and write your request and maybe a transcriber will take it. You can also "watch" the page if you log in, so that you'll be noticed when the pages change (and maybe fortunately a transcriber will take your transcription)
You can also create a page with your sheet music request, and tell what you really want for example, give the details of the song, and also put a link to a audio file: the transcriber won't have to search it by himself!

- For Transcribers:
* You go to your section (Anime, Video Game or Asian pop).
* Go write your Transcriber name in the List of Transcriber, and the sheet music you're transcripting (in progress). You'll be also able to create a page concerning your Transcriber profile, and tell infos about yourself (website, hobbies, sheet music transcribed...)
* You'll go to the List of Sheet music requests and see what you can transcribe. If there is a request that you want to fulfill, just edit the page and put your name under the request, and also the progression rate of the transcription. Ppl will be able to see if their sheet music request is fulfilled or not.
* You can also add existing sheet music and make a page for each to discuss about them (mistakes, improvements, etc..)

As you see it can really be powerful and useful.
I would be happy to work with willing transcribers to improve this wiki. :)

The Wiki is hosted at:

Hope to hear from all of you soon!

I added mine name in. Tell me if I did anything wrong. I have not done the wiki editing before.

That's OK for your profile ;)

However, you should put your transcriptions in the page of transcribers, like that:

* Sondagger
** GTO - Poison (Piano Version)

Ppl will see directly on the transcribers page who transcribe what in progress.

Thx for contributing ;)

This is a great idea, but why just limit it to requests?

We could take this opportunity to consolidate all the sheet music indexes into one. I can imagine it to be quite a task for just one person to try to keep track of all the new additions (Soda and Josh, you do a great job BTW). But hey, why do double work (yeah, I know, for the love of it) when all we need is just one master index?

That way, requesters can immediately see what already exists, and transcribers have somewhere to notify the entire community (and not just whoever happens to be reading the forums) of their contributions. I know I have a hard time keeping track of all the new stuff.

Thanks Josh for supporting!

Jarbalix, your thoughts are justified: I thought a lot about that before working very very hard on the SODA search engine.
- I made SODA because I thought that a search engine is a great tool since there are a lot of anime titles, and it takes time to search your sheet music on a page where there are 1500 anime titles. That's why I also wanted to be a complement to josh's master index: It's better to have 2 ppl working on the same matter (discovering new sheets of anime) than one :)
- The Wiki is by the way made for the matter you were explaining:
Everyone spends a hard time to keep track of new anime sheets. SODA is for indexing the sheet music, and the Wiki is for informing ppl of the sheet music transcriptions in progress, and why not, transcriptions of each transcribers, and corrections proposed by the community for each transcriptions etc...

As you see, a master index and the wiki are both necessary, because they are complementary.
The Wiki is a common place for the community to keep track of the evolutions. That's why it needs everyone's contribution: at least transcribers' contribution. Transcribers who are in this forum are encouraged to talk about this wiki to the requesters, in order to make the Wiki a place where it's easy to keep track about what's new. :)

The wiki has also not the ambition to replace the forum: the forum is necessary, because it's the link between transcribers and requesters.

I summarize:
- a master index is for indexing sheet music
- the Wiki is a common place to keep track of the evolutions of sheet music requests and new sheet music: I will after add the new sheet music in SODA.
The Wiki is really open: everyone can add something that could be useful (Links, categories, new ideas, everything concerning sheet music)
- the forum is where transcribers and requesters talk about sheet music requests: it's less informal and more "human"

Hope it's clear ;)

soda, I agree forums are a brilliant idea, and that a wiki can never replace their functionality .

I see your point about keeping the index separate. You obviously did a lot of work to get yours going - I wouldn't want it to go to waste:sweat: .

I guess what I was trying to express is that I think it would be great to have an index that is moderated by a number of people. For instance, just say you or josh took a trip elsewhere, others could continue the work of searching for and processing new additions. It's better to have many ppl working on the same matter (discovering new sheets of anime) than just two.

Although when I think about it properly (rarely happens): if this wiki works like it should, indexers like yourself can simply use that to keep track of the all new stuff rather than relying on elusive forum posts and private messages. Just have to get the message out there that the wiki exists.

Anyway, thanks for all your work.
I look forward to see what effect the wiki will have in the near future.:)

It's better to have many ppl working on the same matter (discovering new sheets of anime) than just two.

Of course it would be the best. But the main problem is that the management of the database is difficult and needs to be very controlled (security matters) and also there are website structure matters: I'm the only one who understands the structure of my database and how I can fill it, since there are a lot of rules to write.

But if you talked about working on finding all sheets, everyone can do it on the wiki: You can add a page where everybody can list the anime sheets that are not listed in the master indexes: it will help me to keep track of the sheets. But once more, it needs everyone's contribution.
The wiki's page can't really be moderated: everyone can modify it, but everyone can consult the history of the page to restore a page from before if the page has been bad-modified. But I can restrict the edition of the page to Registered users only. So I should name Moderators (and list them on a page) so that they can modify correctly the page.

Your idea concerning the page of indexing sheet music is a good idea. I will add a "List of Sheet music (not indexed by SODA or Josh) found on the web" page. It will open it to all people first before restricting to registered users only.
Here is the link (http://sodaorat2.ovh.org/TranscriberWiki/index.php?title=List_of_Anime_sheet_music_found_on _the_web)

Just have to get the message out there that the wiki exists.

This is very important: if everyone can help me to spread the word that this wiki exists, it will help me a lot. We can already begin in this forum by posting in threads where transcribers post their transcriptions, but not hosted in any website: I can host them, but I can't index them if they are hosted nowhere.
Same way, we can talk about this wiki to requesters, in order that they ask their requests on the forums, but also in the wiki.

Anyway, thanks for all your work.
I look forward to see what effect the wiki will have in the near future.:)

Thanks for supporting: it's the reward of my work!

Also, I will need some ppl motivated to manage with me the wiki: if you are motivated, just write to me, and you'll appear in the Moderator list (only if you registered the wiki before)

What do you mean by that? Hosting your transcription? It's ok for my website: I'll host anything that comes to Anime and Video Games (and soon Jpop/Kpop/Cpop)
After I'll index it in SODA sheets (http://sodaorat2.free.fr)

If you talk about the wiki, you can put your transcriber name there (in the appropriate section) and list your sheet music with a link to your sheet music.

Hey man, I've been thinking about that after updating my database... I am thinking about an evolution of my website where everyone will be able to contribute to the index by adding sheet they found.

The sheet proposed to be indexed will appear on a page: Only moderators will be able to accept if it can be indexed in the database. There will be controls on the name of the anime (they must match the name in the anime list, or if it's new add to it). The transcriber must exist, and if not it must be added in the database with the link where to find his sheets (only one link for one transcriber: if several links, several names for transcribers..)
Well lots of management rules that only some qualified ppl will work on.

Still lots of work for the website!!

Any suggestions?

Ok. Thanks :). That's what I needed to know.

EDIT: Ignore the attachment... I just needed to host it so I can post the link to it....

Mmm If you post a link on this forum, one day it may disappear, since the threads don't live eternally... You don't want to host your transcription somewhere? In my website or another who will accept it? By this way, your transcription won't be lost in numerous threads, especially in the later months (the thread may be archived or deleted if it's not active anymore)

Anyway thanks for contributing :)
