I just switched to cable internet now, and at first it was apprent the speed went up compared to my old DLS. But after a few days, I noticed it was getting slow; even slower then DSL.

Ichigos is the only site that loads fast currently. Wiki takes such a long time I dont even bother to let anything show, yahoo is slower and deviant art only loads halfway.

Does anyone know anything that might be causing the problems? If it just the servers Im getting in the info from or is it my internet? Settings?

A friend of mine had the same problem. Apparently, one of the problems with speeding up downloads is that you also speed up the downloading of adware, spyware, viruses, etc. You might want to look into getting a program that will clean all of that junk out of your computer. There are a number of free ones out there that you can google for.

Yeah I agree with the two guys above. Usually the main problem for getting a slow computer is by Viruses, Spyware, Data Miners, Trojans, Adware, and even Malware. To fix this problem there are many programs that can take these malicious software out (these are the ones that I use): Spybot S+D, and Ad-Aware. You can google these and you'll eventually find them.:w00t:

Depends on how many people get it after you.

Cable = Fast with few people being subscribed to it.

Cable = Gets slower as more and more people subscribe to it.

I already went through getting out the trojans, adware, spyware, everything. Clean as a babies ass now.

My brother went through and updated some of the drivers, modem and router were using.

Works fine now. Loading of pages I cant noticed any diffrence between dsl and cable, but streeming of things and downloading I can. Stupid technology [kicks computer].

Are you downloading a lot on P2P or Bittorrent networks without limiting your Upload speed?

No, not really. If I/we do, its limited to a 5 minute download.

Would it have to do with me watching TV? We split the cable thing with one of those things from WalMart so the TV and Modem basicly share the same cable cable.

Well, a single split is fine, but beyond that, your dB level you get on the cable line can decrease and slow your connection, or even disconnect you.

Try resetting your cable modem by unplugging it from the Power Adaptor for a min. Plug it back in. If it takes longer than five mins to connect, then there's a signal problem (likely due to low dB levels). Quick fix to that is to make your first split go to another splitter, and then send the other end directly to your modem.

Did that yesterday. Its a bit faster, but not as fast as it could be.

Thanks everyone.

Slowing down can also be caused by an old cable modem. If you recently bought the modem, then disregard this. If you bought it years ago, pay attention to when it slows (time, day). If slowdowns occur at almost the same time everyday, then say hello to peak time.

The modem we got is fine, more then our provider even gives.

My brother was speaking to a few friends that have cable from Comcast and apprently it slows down every so often. Hasnt happened in a few days so not that big of a deal.
