hi guys! I was wondering how you're meant to miss out strings while hitting others across another string e.g.

E--------------------------------------------------------------
B------4---4---4-------------------------------------------------
G---------------------------------------------------------------
D------1---1---0------------------------------------------------
A---------------------------------------------------------------
E--------------------------------------------------------------

yeah like that without hitting the G string. I'm teaching myself without any books (cos I find them rubbish most of the time and therefore a waste of money) so was wondering what the technique is like. All I can do is use two fingers to play those strings at the same time but was wondering if there was an easier technique.

If you're not a guitar player it would be more helpful if you didn't guess at the technique cos I've seen a lot of false/vague information on this site with regards to technique by musicians who don't actually play the instrument.

thanks in advance! ^_^

Use your index finger to mute the G string. Your holding down the D string on the first fret, so just touch the G string with the same finger and it won't make a sound.

D------------------------------------------
A-------1--------------1------------3--------

Wow, very... awkward haha. Lemme grab my guitar real quick...

Lets see. You could hold down the A string with your index finger (and use it to mute the D string), use your middle finger on the G string, and your pinky on B string. Or you could hold down the A,D, and G strings with your index finger, use your middle or ring finger to mute the D string, and use your pinky to hold down the B string.

I've never seen chords like that before so I don't know if there is really a "standard" to fingering them. But basically hold down all the strings that you need to play and find a way to mute all other strings (or atleast the ones between the strings you do play)

You could just bar the 1's and finger pick all the strings you want to play.
