sorry if a thread like this already exists..

but ignoring professional musicians, have you ever heard someone playing something (any instrument), and just been totally blown off your feet?

i was inspired by a performance yesterday; was at the conservatoire waiting for my trial piano lesson (before i decide if i want to go there), and someone was in the practise room playing Messiaen's "Un reflet dans le vent". I just didn't think it was possible for a non concert pianist to sound so... perfect- the phrasing, the colour, the technical accuracy.

i was just stood there in awe

Omg, I wish I heard that person playing that.

Yea, I don't think their is a thread od Amazing Ametuer performances--or if it was just Music General Discussion.

I saw one girl improvise a heck of a song on the piano once. And then she asked her sister to join in. So right then and there they improved a song together. I mean, it's one thing to improvise, but another thing entirely to do that while somebody else is improving at the same time. And it sounded damn good! I guess I'd react the same way if I ever see jazz performed live (those two girls didn't play jazz though, just to clarify), but somehow, I think what they did was a bit different, more jaw-dropping.

I've seen a sax quartet improvise some pretty nifty pieces...they were college students too...

Uh, improvise with chords involved, or just improvised off the back?

If it's with chords, I'm like,

"Kay--so?"

One can tell the diffrence between just hearing improvised chords and actualy hearing an improvised "song". And Al was blown off his feet, so yeah, that explains what the person did.

I havent heard anyone who isnt pro play like he/she is pro worthy in real life yet.
