How does one play a violin? This has always confused me. does the boy go inbetween the strings or on top of it? In many cases I've seen the bow on top of it but I've also seen one between it. Is that the difference between a fiddle and a violin? Or am I just missing something here??

It's on top. ._. And fiddle can be used to define various instruments... Such as viols (not viola), and some other ethnic instruments.

Ah... I hope I'm not making a complete idiot of myself by saying this, but...
There's not one single dang difference between a fiddle and a violin. ^_^
Though some say that a fiddle has a flatter bridge so that they can play on two strings easier... But other than that, no, there's no difference.

I think it's how much more annoying the sound and style of it is.

I.. hate.. the.. "fiddle" ...

As Sir Dotdotdot said. If you tried to play in between you'd find it impossible and you'd break the strings probably. Its the horse hair side of the bow rubbing against the strings with friction by putting "rosin" on it, that causes the strings to vibrate.

And that, my friend, is called personal prefrence. Which I whole heartedly respect. (I play the "Fiddle")

The violin and the fiddle are pretty much the same thing, it just depends on how you play it. Violinists play more of a classical style, while fiddlers play using more double stops.

Yeah, some classical songs have a lot of double stops, too...
