Who here trying out for All Region or All State this year? (some of you know it as Senior Clinic.) I'm trying out on flute for all region, hoping i qualify for all state.

This is my first year to go to the Senior Clinic. I went to the junior clinic the past 3 years, and made it for all 3. This year, i'm actually struggling a bit with the music.

I'm just looking for a hand count on those who are actually in band and are trying out, that and i'd love to compare music with a few people.

hehe. I have a private flute instructor who's been playing for about 46 years now. so i've definately got an upper hand. but at $15 for a half hour, i cant exactly spend a whole lot of time with him lol. But i hope you made it man

I've done Regional Orchestra for two years. I've tried out for State Band/Orchestra last year, but didn't make it. I plan to try again until I do. Oh, and that's on percussion.

I was supposed to try out for the All State this year but I was careless and I lost the sheet music sometime during the summer. What makes it even more careless of me is that my mom even allowed me to sign up for private violin lessons to improve so I could make State. So, maybe next year, but I'm going to at least shoot for the All-City Music Festival where I live.

Eh, come to think of it, I do not think I would have been able to make it anyway because there is a girl in my orchestra class who is a fantastic violinist and far beyond me, and I think I would have to surpass her if I really wanted a chance at it. But I find All-State more challenging because of course, it is a competition across the state. Good luck to those trying out and congratulations to those who do or have made it in the past!

My violin teacher charges $1 a minute. That would be almost $200 per month.

I think I may try out, although I don't think I'll make it. Plus, I suck at auditioning.

MY GOD MAN!!!! a $1 a minute. thats a waste of money. there is only so much you can learn in a minute lol. But yeah, i'm not too great at auditions. For chair tests during the school year, i usually end up 3rd chair out of 9.
Yet during performances and practice, it really shows that i could make first. The director has even pointed it out before that i suck at playing stuff off in front of people and it actually meaning something. So yeah, i KNOW how that feels.

I have also found it difficult to play in front of people, and if it is an audition it just seems to add more pressure. Sometimes the best thing to do in an audition is to just play the notes because I'm sure most of us are afraid of playing something wrong, and that is probably why anxiety sets in. I know I don't play half as well when I know the entire class is watching me!
