Christmas! It is merely weeks away and I'm really nosy ^_^. What are we all asking for christmas? What are we buying for oursleves this christmas? And what are we buying for others? Post here about all that kind of stuff.

@_@ I have no idea as to what to ask for Christmas... @_@

Christmas is over a whole month away from now. I think this thread is waaaaaaaaaay too early, personally.

Mugen
November 5th, 2006, 10:37 am
Yeah its early but i guess there is no time like the present. I want money...lots of school loans to pay off.

Asuka
November 5th, 2006, 10:38 am
not if you're buying online and trying to avoid mail traffic! :) But uhm, yeah, I'm planning on getting my sister a 14K gold charm bracelet, cuz she is comming for christmas and I haven't seen her for a year and half since I left wyoming. I'm not really getting anything for anyone else in my family cuz im gonna be broke by the time i get through my sister and my girlfriend. I'm either going to ask for a new skateboard+shoes, or new guitar+amp. Happy Season :)

Jaso
November 5th, 2006, 01:01 pm
£14,000! Wow, you must really love her ^_^. No wonder you will be broke!

@Angelic: Stop avoiding the subject; what are you getting?!?

Asuka
November 5th, 2006, 01:32 pm

@_@ Christmas....Christmas is almost here!!@_@ Hehehehehehehehehe!!! I love X-mas! Favorite time of year! Besides the snow... I love X-mas because i get to go see my grandparents in Tenessee, go to my aunt's X-mas party, party like crazy as we mexicans always do! He he:shifty: , and i get to visit my dad too, and of course the Christmas cheer! And snowboarding, earning money from shuveling people's drive ways and side walks, and giving gifts to your reletives! Hee hee, anyways, what i would like for Christmas is a PS2 and the new game Okami ^-^, what i give, i would give one of my friends a manga book, the other one something related to Gir ^_^, the others.....oh, gotta think what i got to get the rest of them, but, its a month away and besides, we haven't celebrated Thanksgiving, another wonderful holiday ^-^.

Christmas...it's all about the presents for most people. It's too commercialised now.

Jaso
November 5th, 2006, 04:29 pm
I know... I think it's sad actually... except there is one thing that I am drawn into with the commercialisation...

Christmas Trees!

Never saw them before untill I went to Germany (in real life, anyway) and I was like "wow!" because it was so big and glittery and shiny and ... wow! I love the atmosphere in the big shopping centres as well! Everyone is moving and rushing from store to store and I just stand and watch the maniacal couples frantically dashing everywhere! Its like Keitarou and Naru (Love Hina)!!!

I still have no clue... I would LOVE a PDA but I haven't a hope in hell (right phrase?) in getting one... Then I could browse Ichigos properly... my mobile is kinda arkward...

Neko Koneko
November 5th, 2006, 05:08 pm
@Angelic: Stop avoiding the subject; what are you getting?!?

Nothing, I'm not American so I don't do Christmas presents.

Jaso
November 5th, 2006, 06:14 pm
>.< I'm not American either >.<

Oh, and whilst we are being honest, I'm not Japanese or English (don't know where they came from!).

I am not mad on presents either. But I love the shopping centres and the Christmas trees!!!

Asuka
November 5th, 2006, 07:32 pm
Meh, presents to me aren't the gift itself but what they mean to you.

Oooh, I love going to places with lots of decorations just because of the atmosphere (even though that's very American too these days) but I don't care about presents, to be honest. Just another commercial gimmick to the whole thing.

November 5th, 2006, 08:24 pm
my fravorite bit about chistmas is the family gavering, feuled by booze and to much food.
for a present i want new ipod or money
dont want cloths ect.

Neko Koneko
November 5th, 2006, 08:49 pm
I think it's so funny that some people say it's about getting together with the family or about atmosphere, but at the same time ask for expensive gifts. I'm going to England around Christmas, and IF I'm doing gifts there because I'm supposed to, it'll be something small, because it's the idea that counts, not the pricetag. Too bad a lot of people seem to have forgotten that.

HanTony
November 5th, 2006, 08:51 pm
i always ask poeple what they want or get them somthing useful.

i'm only asking for an expensive gift because i'm still owed a birthday present from last july.

You don't have to be an American to celebrate Christmas. It started out as a Christian holiday and then people of other cultures picked it up, since people are so materialistic now. We all just want an excuse to recieve presents, and eventually we lose the "true" meaning of the holiday.
My family is neither Christian nor caucasian (although I doubt that that has anything to do with it) but we just celebrate it since pratically the entire country does. Talk about being a leader not a follower, huh. *snort*
But. Going back to the topic, I would reaally like a new computer that has more than 191 megs of RAM and comes with Windows XP, hahaha...

Neko Koneko
November 5th, 2006, 09:14 pm
It started out as a Christian holiday

Please don't say that. The Germans celebrated Christmas long before there was anything like a Catholic church (Midwinterfest), then the Catholic church came around and thought, hey, let's convert their celebration in something Christian.

You don't have to be an American to celebrate Christmas.

Celebrating Christmas and getting presents aren't the same thing, at least not to me. I celebrate Christmas, I generally don't do gifts or whatever.

@HanTony: Fair enough.

I don't have a religion but Christmas is wonderful because it's an excuse to skip school and spend time with family~

OFFTOPIC: Chirstians are the exact same as Catholics

ONTOPIC: hmmmm I like christmas for the days off from school and the time i get to spend with friends. Presents are a bonus but i don't care if i get any, even though i'll be giving out a lot

M
November 6th, 2006, 12:00 am
@Above: Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholic. To be Catholic is to be just one of the many different paths people designed as to what "Proper Worship" should be in the Christian belief.

Let's see... I didn't ask for anything (nor do I want anything; I kinda hate gift giving), but my parents are likely to go into my amazon account and check up on my wishlist or saved cart. They did that last year, and bought me a lot of the books I wanted to buy.

Wolfgoddess

I also like X-mas because of X-mas break from school, thats the best part for me! Relax at home, play mindless video games!

Ya Angelic is right it's not about the present or anything. But if you have to get someone a present, it dosen't have to be expensive to say I love you. It can be affordable too. And Christmas to me is about the family gathering. I get to see relitives I don't normaly see. Cause I love to spend time with my cousins, theer awsome. Ecspecialy my 18 year old cousin. He's awsome. :D

But I just want is a digital cam. I don't care if it is exspensive or not. I just want a good one that will work for a year or so.

Jaso
November 7th, 2006, 07:44 pm
Although I don't want anything for Christmas... I would kill for a laptop around about now... <_<.

My PDA is sometimes a little fiddly with ichigo's, and the touchpad doesn't even come into it because Ichigos is so small on the scrren, I have to enlarge the screen by 1.5, which means that I have to scrool on the horizontal axis to fully read posts... :(.

Otherwise I'm fine ^_^

I have finals after break, too...and I have to take the high school exit exam on my birthday...

On topic, I can't wait for christmas^_^ I go to see my (very large) family over the break, and it's fun to shop for my family...this year, I'm hoping to get an iPod and maybe another DDR game...

Although I wish it would snow...it never snows where I live...:(

So no matter what, she hosts a party, we also do dancing too. heh, we also do the thing with the baby Jesus hiden in the bread thing, i love doing that, only for the bread. Plus, also when the three white men come too, i dont do that no morem but my little cusions do. I love it when my aunt host a party ^-^

Hey I've been learning to build models and I got the storeowners favorite model ._. I wanted to make it to show him how much better I've gotten and I accidently broke a piece XD still should I give it to him? For Christmas of course... with some music >> Kishidan

I love Christmas. The atmosphere just rocks.

I don't really want anything in particular for Christmas... I'd like clothes and shoes or something.

My biggest worry this year is who to buy presents for and how much I can afford to spend. I think I might just sing for people and try to pass it off as a present, haha XD

Hiei
November 12th, 2006, 02:18 pm
Christmas...it's all about the presents for most people. It's too commercialised now.

if I would have my ideal christmas, there would be tons of christmas spirit, many houses decorated with lights, snow falling nonstop, and spending time with your friends and family. I especially adore those hay rides through the city while you see bunch of nifty lights when you pass by your houses.

I would care less for presents.

Though in this modern era, my friends would complain to me if I dont give them a present. There arent no hay rides in New York anymore, and the spirit of christmas has went down a notch.

I wish I could do something.

Jaso
November 13th, 2006, 08:25 pm
... what is a hay ride?

Wolfgoddess
November 13th, 2006, 08:30 pm
a hay ride is like a wagon that carries hay and you can ride on it ^_^, I've tried it, its fun ^_^.

Jaso
November 24th, 2006, 04:39 pm
I did not! But that is a good idea. I might ask for some anime...

But I do not beleive that that is the main theme for Christmas. I think Christmas should be celebrated like all of the other holy holidays... by recognising it...

As a Christian, I believe in Christmas but it turned to a commercial holiday so that the businesses get more money.
Let me ask you this, what's the first thing that pops into your head when I say "Christmas"?

open this spoiler after getting that thought into your head

I bet you thought one of the following things
-Santa Claus
-Holiday
-Christmas Carols
-Gifts/Presents/Gift Giving
-Snow
-Winter
-Reindeer

Now after reading the spoiler, check out this one

I bet you that no one ever thought of Jesus or anything relating to Christianity
Not trying to make this a religion thread, I just thought I'd pitch in my opinion about it ^_^

Now, getting on topic.
I don't really care what anyone gives me for Christmas, it's the thought that counts. I really find it nice that someone spent the time and thought to buy me a present

Luis
November 25th, 2006, 01:02 am
I thought Jesus was supposed to have born in march...and that Christmas was originally celebrating another holiday (of another tradition) but was chosen as the date so it could ease the transition of those who were converted.

Well, than again... I'm not Christian, so I don't celebrate it. But my family is so I still get presents.

Last year, my sisters asked for small, yet expensive presents: a digital camera and a PSP. My mom set it in the row behind her in the car and started to break down and cry. She said that $600 used to fill the car. XD

German Midwinterfest.

Arashi_no_Toriko
November 25th, 2006, 01:36 pm
that's right... and it's quite mean of the christians ( i am chistian, well, officially...) to put their stupid celebration on this date, just to stop the pagan people celebrating their midwinter festival then... i actually celebrate midsummer and midwinter, but that's nearly impossible here because of christmas.

leonheart
November 25th, 2006, 07:09 pm
@^: how is it mean? christians aren't stopping people who want to celebrate midwinterfest they're not going: ZOMG CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS OR DIE!
people who want to celebrate midwinterfest can still do so <_<

Jaso

That's what I was going to say, but I couldn't think of a nice way to say it...

Neko Koneko
November 25th, 2006, 10:21 pm
A lot of Christian holidays are based on holidays they "stole" from other religions, really. It's like the borg in Star Trek: "You will be assimilated, resistance is futile!"

So according to you, you have to give presents to celebrate Christmas?

I think it is sad the way the world has commercialised everything...
When did I say that? Stop it. I just said, its tradition to gets Christmas presents in my family. My parents love it, and frankly, my favorite part is tearing up wrapping paper (about THE PRESENTS not all of CHRISTMAS). Geez, get over it. Look, PEOPLE GET PRESENTS ON CHRISTMAS. Just because they get presents, it does not mean they they only like Christmas for the presents and are all like "*drool with googly eyes* PRESENTS!!!!" What happens when you wake up and open presents? You're are with your family, bundled up and cozy making a mess of the house. The story I posted earlier proves my mom enjoys the whole buying presents thing. When I tear up presents and my face brightens up, my parents are happy. Commercialized or not, it serves its purpose. Well....Maybe not the whole Jesus Christ being born thing... But that's not my belief so frankly, I have no business trying to encorparate it into my Christmas. I celebrate Christmas not for Jesus, but for the stmosphere. Presents come along with it. Stop bashing presents and people that open them. <_<

In response to the whole dates of Christian Holidays: I kinda started laughing when they told me the only reason they created All Saints Day was to cancel out Halloween. That I learned at church. :)

ME411
November 26th, 2006, 09:59 pm
i saw that on tv and i just had to laugh. all the Christian holidays were created either to replace or cancel out a pagan holiday (sunday is the sabath but notice the name. SUNday-day to celebrate the sun in a pagan belief)

M

Not created, but moved to counteract the pagan holidays. Talk about your desire for conflict!

:) Leonheart is correct. Since that the tradition and I take part in that tradition, I get the presents. I also give presents. Thanks for ignoring the rest of my post though. If you hadn't ignored it I'm sure you would have understood what I was saying. Anyway, this is off topic.

I want a dagger.... Wonder if I could get away with it....

That's the only present I know of so far.... I should save my money...

Pocky's probably one of the most overrated things ever. Just because it's Japanese and some anime characters eat it, almost every anime fan is completely obsessed with it for no particular reason at all. I'm not saying I don't like them, because I do, but there's too much of a hype for a stupid little biscuit with some chocolate over it.

methodx
December 25th, 2006, 08:16 pm
The Kyoto accord is a international movement to stop Global Warming etc.

The Tories is the nickname for a conservative political party in Canada that is named, coincidentally, The Conservatives. They won a minority government in the last election and the only things they care about is "lowering taxes" and they don't give a rat's ass for the environment. The leader of the party (and our current Prime Minister) is called Stephen Harper.

April 25: Stephen Harper, saying the only thing he cares about lowering is taxes, leaves the Parliament Hill flag exactly where it is as Afghanistan casualties mount.

May 20: Stephen Harper puts all his copies of the Kyoto accord into his blue box, then puts the blue box in a Dumpster. Meanwhile, Environment Minister Rona Ambrose calls a news conference to announce that clouds are pretty.

Yes Jaso, you've made your point, we know you got a bloody old laptop for Christmas. I can understand you're happy with it, but please, you don't have to mention it time after time. Anyone with a bit of brains left in their skull after all the Christmas booze knows that stuff with "USB" or "WEB" in it are usually meant to be used with computers or internet.

Jaso
December 31st, 2006, 05:52 pm
Actually, Angelic, not all of the mouses are USB some are PS2. And I originally put camera but then a camera takes still photos... this was a webcam, in which takes both video and still images so I think the use of those words were justified.

M
December 31st, 2006, 05:56 pm
It's not the layout he's complaining about. It's the endmatter you made saying "Those in CAPS are for my laptop that I got."

Also, proper formatting when writing full caps items is to Title Caps. Thus USB becomes Usb. LED WHITE LIGHT becomes Led White Light.

Jaso
December 31st, 2006, 06:01 pm
But I was taught that abbreviations were caps with full stops... [.] except you can leave the full stops out if you want...

[Eg. Usb ---> USB and Aka ---> AKA]

M
December 31st, 2006, 06:17 pm
True, but don't you find IT EASIER TO READ THE LATTER of this Sentence Than The Earlier?

It's a typesetting thing. If you go far enough into English construction you'll find that they teach you the proper way to write improperly. That is, correct improper grammar vs. incorrect improper grammar.

But that's just a note on your posting. What we are debating on is not that, but the excessive repetition regarding your laptop. You could have made that second list without restating that you have a laptop.

Jaso

I figure Jaso got one for self-protection, am I correct?

If someone attacked me I wouldn't stab them! Thats cruel. No my dad got it for me as a tool. I often go on long walks and you never know when you need one. THey are lifesavers. I received a lighter when I was 10 and it has really helped me at least twice in my life (when I was in grave danger). Then again... all I have done so far is bleed for hours on end so maybe it is too early for a knife...

lol, be careful then. Maybe a better gift would've been a Swiss Army Knife

No... the blade is smaller than 3 inches. Then it isn't very useful. I'm off to find it... 5 seconds... :(

I really like Christmas because it gives me a reason to make goodies like cookies and chocolate covered pretzles. I love to bake, and they make great gifts. I have to say I make damn good peanut butter cup cookies.

I've unfortunately been out of work for the past little while, so this year is going to be a pretty simple christmas for me. It's actually been alot more fun not having to worry about getting everyone's presents and running around the malls in a panic. Thank god I can bake or my friends wouldn't be getting a thing from me. :teeth:

As for receiving, I'll just be happy if it doesn't snow again for a while. Shoveling sucks.

Those digital frames are nice.

I've bought a volume of Family guy for my unmarried brother, a 5-way game set for my married brother and his wife, a bear for my mom's collection, the Passion of the Christ for my dad, and soap for my cousin.

Yeah, my pay check only gets me so far.

Well, it's christmas morning here! I said I didn't want anything, because I'm trying to massively clear out what I own, because my trip with such a small amount of stuff made me realise how much clutter I don't need I own! Though, I would have been surprised if my mum had listened - she's VERY into Christmas presents. But anyways, I got:

- $50
- $50 gift card
- cute little desk calendar with loads of cats on :D
- a bar of chocolate
- socks

Happily, all stuff that I can USE, so won't just be gaining dust somewhere in my room. Although, the books/DVDs I buy will, but they'll be a part of my collection, so that's all good XD
