INV4IN Compositions

I'll be posting my compositions here. Right now I only have one, but I will make some more when I get some inspiration (yeah right) or time.

Please be gentle, I've only been doing this for like 4 months.

Well first of all, welcome to Ichigos! I am glad you had picked our forums to chat and experience an online community like this one. :heh:

~~~
Well, getting to your piece. Overall, it's not that bad for a first time 'composition' to post here. You have some very good moments (notice: Moments) but also a little odd too. Some parts random, just work out some melody.
If you wish to hear more, just ask--kinda giving a basis.
some will absolutely complain about some of the notes by the piano... but i think its briliant at times. those odd notes is what makes it special.
the chord at o1:07 feels a little off. you can surely weave it together better.
oh welcome, and be sure to coment on other peoples works, thats how it works, a give and recieve kind of thing. dont be afraid to be honest.
Edit: this song will repeat a couple of times on my media player i think =)
Well put, I would have said the same thing. I really liked the main progression method. The slightly random notes makes an excellent mythical transition to the next chord. Theres definately beauty in the piece mixed in with the other awkward things. The choir was a nice touch too:)
THNX you guys, and it's true there are some very random notes, 'cause I like to fit in some places random notes from the chords I use. The transition at 1:07...I didn't know how to get back to my first theme so that came out. I'll try to fix that.
And I'll be sure to comment on other peoples works. I'm just not very shure that I can be of great help, but I'll try.
I hope the transition is better now...I'm still not shure about it.
It's those notes in the beginnning that give the.. first chord an odd sound. Heh.. That's all I really dislike is that lick in the beginning--or whereever it is again.
[ Edit: Warning really different style than the first song. ] ;)
This song did not meet my expectations at all, even with your warning sign! It was a positive surprise, I enjoyed this tune. It has a sharp, cold feel to it which relates to winter I think. Add a nice voice there, and introduce a solo section for an instrument of your choice and you're good to go.
My final exams are over, so I started making some songs again. And for once all the hard- and software are working.;)
Please tell me what you like and don't like in this song.
Thanx ^_^
Piano Heaven
A few random notes in the melody which don't function very well as non-chord tones, though after a little while I got used to the sound. The background choir is pretty cool -- though I was kind of hoping that, at least for a few measures, they'd be brought to the foreground. The piano motif starting at around 0:49 is one of the most memorable things about this piece. Overall, this is a pretty cool compositional style, and a very effective piece.
Ah, nice use of percussion here. The synthetic melody voice is interesting, though if I were you, I'd consider upping the volume on it just a bit, as it's a little difficult to hone in on. Also, maybe at some point try giving the melody line to another instrument/voice, as that would likely keep the listener's interest a bit more. The tempo change (triplets in the percussion, right?) was an unexpected surprise. This piece loops really nicely, too. Which sampling/sequencing program(s) did you use in making this?
Furman_E_Forza_2
You're very good at writing eletronica music -- and your percussion parts sound a little R&B-influenced. It's a really interesting melding of styles. Anyway, what does the voice in the beginning say? It sounds kind of like "blue green." :heh: I especially like how you use so many different synthetic sounds! This piece is good at evoking a certain ambience, even if there's no real melody to hang onto once the quick 1:16 is over.
Pretty cool style there, INV4IN. :D
Piano Heaven: I quite like this. I've got vertually no knowlage of playing a piano or anything so I'm completely about the melody and sound of it rather than how it's done, but yeah. I do like this, but I'd love to hear it with more instruments and all kinds of stuff building it into something much bigger.
Haha. Not to say it's not good as it is, I just love to get a lot going with stuff like this. :]
Edit: This was about the first one before anything was done to it. Just so you know. The edited version was also really nice. Good job. 8)
For pure record-only I use a Mac with Digi002 and ProTools LE and the sounds come from the synthesizer. For the writing I steel my dads PC, 'cause as far as I know Finale only runs on Windows.:think:
Furman_E_Forza_2
The voice in the beginning says "two, three".:P
Ooh...I forgot to mention that I made this song for a Xbox trailer of a game called Forza 2.
I'm trying to make a new theme, kinda a sad but light sort of ... I don't really know how to explain it.
um ... try to imagine a walk on an open space in a forest, while thinking about the past and the future kinda stuff. Alright sounds weird ... :huh: so ... never mind, maybe you'll imagine something else.
Anyways, this is all I have up to now. It doesn't really have an ending , 'cause I want to make it longer, but I have no clue where to go with the theme.
Any comments, ideas or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks ^_^
It reminds me of Jade Empire! It's very good, and that guitar sounded really realistic!
I actually disagree with that part, lol, it sound quite MIDI-like in my opinion.
Asides from that comment, your piece is quite fitting for films and whatnot. The melody is pretty standard. Your harmonies are also quite standard for pieces of this style. Though, the only complain I have is the ending; you have this weird echoing synth thing. Asides from that, nothing is wrong technically. But I do have a side comment: your melody actually implies a medieval feel to me for some reason, especially with the use of the tambourine and the pan flutes.
I tried to find the most realistic-sounding guitar, but it's a 128-Voice polyphony synthesizer so the sounds are still "fake". ;)
The ending is weird right know, I know, but that's because I want to make this piece longer. And does that "weird echoing synth thing" give a wrong vibe, or something like that, and should I replace it with other instruments?
And the melody, what exactly do you mean by standard. Should I use more supporting melodies underneath?
About the medieval feel. That was what I aimed for. So I think it worked then. :P
I've been working on "If I Knew" today and this is what I've been able to do with it. I finally managed to make it longer.@_@
Anyways
Is it becoming better or worse?
It's been a long time since I came on Ichigos and wow, you've improved alot since the last time I listened to your music lol. This was definitely a pleasant break from studying for my finals lol
Haha! Wow! That's some great stuff there Invain! I don't much to say about it, but it does have a really good flow.
One question, I need to know what those flutes are called! I probably sound naive, but it's used a lot in Japanese music. Always needed to know, and I have a hunch it'l be Wood Flute. :sweat:
I actually think that sound isn't really a real instrument, but if it is, my best bet would be a shakuhachi (a curved pipe instrument with fingerings resembling recorders).
Edit: As for Invain's composition, yes, it's nice, but I thought that you could've used some percussives to enhance the medieval-esque quality you are striving for (a good instrument to use would be the frame drum, since it really gives a medieval sound to it). You also could use a melismatic vocal on top.
Thanks ^_^ , I was afraid this piece would become a disaster, 'cause I never did orchestral-like music before. I'm glad it turned out good.
Like Sir_Dotdotdot already guessed ... it is a shakuhachi. Though the one I used from my synthesizer sounds different and way more synthy than a real one.
I'll search for a few frame drums. (I'm not really sure I have them in my sound library)
Thanks so much for the comments everyone. ^_^
Ah, this is great! It's so peaceful and calm, yet also mysterious and almost mournful, which makes it very enjoyable to listen to. I guess the shakuhachi does sound a bit synthy (I've heard a real one - it's one of my favorite instruments :P), but it doesn't take away from the song at all. Great work, and I definitely hope to hear more. :lol:
