The opening few bars were okay, they had a feel of justfication. But afterward, it was all random. Random meaning that it lacks melody, structure, harmony and form.

If you don't mind, will you specify the "first few bars"? Please and thank you.

The first two, but even if it sounds okay to my ears there were still some flaws here and there. An example would be your way of notating it, and the chordal structures.

I think it's safe to say this is mentioned to be a flowy piece--which it's not.

Stick with some rythms and keep it flowing somehow. It's all over the place-- it isn't just the first few bars, it's the entire things.

I would really crop everything out here bud.

I wish my composition making was more like my stry writing: whenever I make a story I think is bad, or boring, everyone else says it's really marvelous and that they liked it. Well... Actually... I think I'll be stopping short on this first composition... I can't seem to do any good with a piano alone. I'm will, however, work on a strings orchestra and a harp. Maybe I shouldn't try so hard... Well. Thatnks for the advice. I'll probably me done with this piece by the end of this year... :heh: Hope it turns out well.

Truth be told, just not being lazy and making your piece sound exactly as you hear it in your head, and nothing else, is how you compose a piece.

Well, that's how pieces you know will sound good turn out. It's all working twoards a goal that you've already achieved to think up of.

Just like when I just fiddle around with my violin. A friend told me the same thing this morning before class: "I just fish around for a tune." Like in my story writing, I just look for what will sound best and go back and check. Usually, it will turn out well.

I should let my mind wonder for a bit...

Yeah, and also improvising improves your sense of creating themes, and you get better at it the more you do it also. (Obviosly)

It's good to experiemtn with melodic and expressionate composers and styudy them for their ways of doing things simply. Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven are my top three. My others are Rachmaninoff and by no doubt Tchaikovsky.

Looking into their music once in a while, and listening to a large variety of their compositions will get you some inspiration as you improvise to yourself. It's really done that to me over the past year or so. ;)

We play a lot of Elliot Del Borgo and Richard Meyer in our Orchestra class. And recently Tchaikovsky and Soon Hee Newbold. I also listen and play a lot of the anime pieces here on this website, and I've also tried to imporvise this one solo in a piece, fiddling around with different combos, only to become a futile effort. lol

Lol. Thats cool.

But what I was saying, is literally improvising. Just sitting you and your instrument, and starting to mess around with melodys and settings--all whatnot.

It's simple for piano & guitar, but violin is a little harder I bet. Still, I'd try anything. ;) You can see what improvising for like 2 hours does. You can come up with so many opurtinities for songs.

Oh yeah, don't be like me, record all your improvations; I always seemed to forget the best things that I wished I knew what the transitions of chords and shit were. Lol.

Oh, yes; before I forget, here are two products of my wandering and wondering. They're both quite random and all over, but, then again, I wasn't really thinking; just fiddling around with my violin and putting the notes in as they rang and faded on my strings.

The first one is just something I heard in my head. Randomly...
The second one is from a soundtrack I'm attempting at for one of the novels I'm making, hence the name at the top "Elementalist", named for the name of the book. :-P

When coming up with a song (especially like a beginner as yourself) try not to make your songs too complicated. Start out slow with simple melodies and, if possible, a simple accompianet as well.

Simplicity makes everything seem so tight.

As you progress, you should pick up on making stuff more "advanced" or that has more "meat" to it. Trust me, the more you composer simplistically, the better you get. It comes naturally--unless your like Mozart or some prodigy. ;)

I'm not gonna comment on those pieces other than saying, "Eh, weird accomp."

Doing a violin with a piano accomp. would be nice. Make it simple, even if it has some super-early classical left hand, and right hand as well; even a piano solo would be good too. Lol.

You thought so too? lol Anyway, I'm letting my mind wander for the time-being. Maybe I shouldn't try to take such big steps nice time... *cough*

Well, I'm glad that this thread is unlocked. At least there was an excuse. It's totally, fine, by the way, Noir. Anyway, for those of you that didn't check out my other thread, here's the composition again.

I don't know if you meant to do what you did at measure 15, but if you did mean to do it, I felt that you could have had a better transition from measures 14-15. It sounded as if you were trying to get a sense of loss of control, from measure 15 to the end.

This next one is still unfinished, but it sounds pretty good so far, and I hope that you think on your own accord. ;P

Eh... oops.... I forgot I was logged automactically into my other account on this comp... *cough* Eh... Anyway, the person that just posted the new comp is me, just under a different user name... Oops... I apologize for any misunderstands and/or confusion. @_@

Forgive me for the double post, but this was the only way I could think of to have people actually check this thread for a new comp I was making...

Anyhow, for those of you who might not know the reason for me composing in the first place, it was because I have an ambition to make a game, so I need a soundtrack, and that's how it all started. Anyway, here's the Title/Menu Screen song. I hope you like it.

Again, I apologize for the double post. Please leave comments and feedback. Thanks in advance.

PLEASE FOR A MIDI? I can't read 2007 files and I don't really want to have Notepad and regular Finale on my computer.

I apologize, but I'm ignorant in making it a midi... I would, if someone could teach me how to... x_x Once I find out, I promise to put every comp I make for the soundtrack into a Midi and a mus file. Thanks in advance to anyone who was willing to offer their adivce.

EDIT: I just tried to download a program that might have been able to convert this file to a Midi, but it froze and nearly froze my entire computer. I can't realy convert this to a Midi, unless someone is willing to take a look and do so for me? Um, I'm not asking for anyone to do this for me, I mean, do it if you want, since I can't download a converter... Thx to anyone that went the extra mile for me.

You could use Noteworthy Composer to rewrite it in midi form. Sorry that I don't have a link but you could Google it.
