This is a little piece I just did up tonight because I wanted to try out a suggestion that Alphonse made in the tutorials thread. So what I did was kind of a log of my thoughts while I was writing this. It isn't much because the piece is kind of short but here it is. Oh, and as always, I would like feedback from everyone who listens.

7:06 PM

Already tried composing once today, it just wasn’t working but I’m gonna give it another shot.

7:10 PM

This is the part I hate, trying to figure out instrumentation before I have a clear idea of what the songs going to be, oh well.

7:26 PM

After fooling around with my initial idea I think I’ve got it to the point where I like the feel of it.

7:37 PM

I’ve come to the conclusion the Tubular bells is the best sounding instrument ever. I now contemplating buying my own set but I imagine they’re expensive.

7:51 PM

Arrrggghh, I can’t get this bloody chord progression right. Oh well, maybe it’s time to go eat.

8:58 PM

Finally getting back at it but it isn’t looking too good. Oh well, maybe it will be the second song I scrapped today.

9:30 PM

Finale has got to have the stupidest way to do time changes ever, and why can’t they make the dynamic control intuitive, or at least useful.

9:37 PM

Got a little better, good enough for one nights work anyway. Finally finished. Oh crap, now it’s time to think up a title.

very nice. I like the Melody in the Vibraphone. It's a bit too quiet for me, but since it's a lullaby, it's okay.

Nice work, keep it up. :)

"Zephyr's Luulaby" was very likeable. The melody on the flute was very nice and soothing, just as a luulaby should be, but even though its meant to be quiet and soothing, I wished it was something more than that. I found the Vibraphone to be a bit out of place. It would help greatly to make it a little extravagant, perhaps a nice quiet, flowing piano in the background would help it along.

VERDICT

+ ~ Nice Melody
+ ~ Fits the theme of a lullaby nicely
- ~ Too short and needs more flare

OVERALL GRADE ~ 3/5 Average

Thanks for your comments. Did both of you get the sustained bass sound because that isn't how my active playback is playing it but the midi is. I'm wondering becuase I've got a sub hooked up here and that may just be my problem. The bass is supposed to be more belltone than that.

Edit: I couldn't get the file to work properly so I just attatched the .mus version for anyone who has Finale.

That's okay, I find the constant sound extremely annoying too but I can't find a way to fix it. The midi that's stored on my computer works fine but when I post it the bass is sustained. If you have Finale or Finale notepad I suggest you use the active playback from the .mus version.

It's pretty nice, but it starts get kinda annoying after you heard it a few times.

It seem'd nice at the begining, but after a wile the theme got boaring. I'd try to use a varation of the main theme on the vibraphone, and have the Tubular Bells do something (yeah, simple term, but it's the only thing that fits), more, have more beats with them; somthing...

As it stands I rate it a 6.5/10; the theme fits the lullaby, but it can have a greater growth to it, give a little more passion, maybe switch it to a minor, it just lacks a certain umph; the lullaby is a song that can be looped together seemlessly and not get boaring, and this song comes close but it isn't quite their yet.
