Hey all!

Quick review of myself and my piano . . . just because ^.^ . I have only been playing for about three years, two and a half of which I have taught myself so I don’t know all the ins and outs of some things, which could be leading me to:

I have a question (obviously :heh: ) regarding notes. You see, I have Final 2007 (though it looks the exact same as 2006 . . . are they supposed to be different?) and I am trying to write something out for my friends. I got so far until I reached a point in the song that involves having three quarter notes underneath one of those tuplet bar things and then three more underneath a tuplet in the same measure. I don’t understand why it won’t let me do it, is there a trick I should know about:frusty:? All I can do is the first tuplet and then two quarters and a tied set of an eighth note, 16th note, and a 32nd rest.

Another thing is why can't you have . . . lets just say a quarter note or two and then a whole note all held at the same time? You can do that, I know, I have seen it in a million and one songs, why can’t you do it on Finale or, well, how do you do it?

Thank you so much in advance, I appreciate any help you can give me:worship:!

By the way, I wasn’t sure if this was quite the right spot, so sorry if it isn’t! Now then, I need to shut up before the forum explodes with this huge post x_x !

I think I can answer you second question; though I can't answer the first. I guess it would depend on the time signature, but, the only way you can have a quarter or two held with a whole note at the same time is if the quarter(s) is(are) at the end and you tie or slur the two(three) notes together. I'm not 100% if my information is correct, but that's how I understand it to be depending on the time sig. Sorry if that's wrong advice, but I'm sure that there are many others that may know the real reason.

@Silverflame and Wolfscar: No you need to use different layers. In the bottom left corner of the program window, there should be 4 buttons (numbered 1-4). You can use these to switch to different layers. In the incidental measures you use multiple layers in, note that its like having two separate measures superimposed on each other, so you have to fill up both of them with notes/rests.

As for the first question, first select the quarter-note tool, then the triplet tool (both on the left hand side of the program window), and THEN type in the six quarter notes.

Thank you so so much :worship: ! This has been driving me absolutely crazy, I have had to change so many songs because of it :sigh:. I always thought those were pages, though I don’t know why . . . .

However, on the second bit: I did try to do that (after you told me to:heh: ), but I can’t select both at the same time. Is there a reason for that? Am I not selecting the right thing? I am clicking on my quarter and then the tuplet tool, but then it clicks off the quarter. Do you know how I can fix that?

Thank you so much, again, (both of you) ^_^ !

Ah... That's what I didn't understand; I thought she meant to slur/tie them, not all within the same measure... =P Thanks Deathrider for clearing that up.

EDIT: Forgot one thing--

The tuplet tool is meant to insert a triplet after the notes are inserted. If you use the triplet tool (which should look like the tuplet tool, but--I'm not fully sure, since I have Notepad--it should be next to the tie tool) instead, you can just insert the tool for automatic triple/tuplets.

Yeah, you're using the wrong one Wolfscar. There are two tuplet tools, but one of them mostly is used for triplets. It's on the left hand side towards the bottom.

Deathraider, did you mean the one towards the right? Aw, well if you didn’t it is the one that works! I didn’t notice that there were two before so you kind of pointed that out to me. Plus, I always used the tuplet tool to insert them, not so easy =_= . Thanks! I am so happy, you have no idea, LoL ^.^ .

Thank you so much . . . to both of you!

Well actually, I did mean the left side. Maybe you have the toolbars arranged differently, though, or maybe that's one of the few differences between 2006 and 2007, since I have 2006.

lol I think my teacher has the 07 one on the class comp... But, I'm not sure how it's arranged, since I haven't tried to use that comp for awhile now. I just don't have the time before/during/after class/school. lol
