Ok, so I recently finished this game and fell in love with one of the songs. I've looked fairly hard on google but haven't been able to find even a hint of there being any sheet music at all for Tales of the Abyss. Anyway, I'm looking for the song 'Mirrors', it's a chime version of the main theme 'Karma' by Bump of Chicken. If you can find either that would be great, though I would prefer 'Mirrors'. Oh, and in case any of this counts, the artist is Motoo Fujiwara and I can also look for a midi version if needed.

Bump. Anyone? I want it for the piano by the way, though if you can find anything at all at this point that would be great.

Yeah, midi files are often hard to find..
And about the notes that I'm trying to figure out, I didn't mean the melody by it, but rather the piano accompaniment. I've just figured the very first part though..
So, it's not much and I'm stuck right now..I really hope I could help you more... :\

The reason midis are hard to find is that (usually) someone has to transcribe them before they can make the midi. Once you've found a midi, people here can "reverse engineer" it to get back the original transcription.

Maybe you can try downloading a program that lets you rip the song from the ps2 game disc. It will be in .Wav format. You can then try and get a program that lets you conrvet that file to midi. The only programs I've ever found that converts mp3 or wav to midi costs money though.

Thanks for the suggestion Keiichii_Kun, unfortunately I doubt I could do that myself. Is there anyone out there used to turning .wavs into .midis? It would be great if you could work on it Tanonev, I don't care if it takes a while, as long as it gets transcribed eventually. :)

Okay so.

I had to merge the piano into the left hand, because in the original, the xylophone or whatever plays the melody, while the piano does the harmony. Because of that, the harmony is one octave lower.

But, anyway, here's Mirrors. I'm sorry it's in .mus format, I don't have a converter to convert to .pdf. If someone could convert it, I'd love them forever.

Also, when you play the song, some notes will clash. That's actually supposed to happen, which might have been a reason why it was a bit harder to transcribe: It doesn't sound right, but it is, and when you listen to the mp3 closely, you can tell.

I've got the basics of Grand Fonic Hymn attached. The bass is...uhh..."under progress"...yeah, that. Actually, I was thinking of just doing some simple single/half notes for the bass on the first time through the melody, since that's what it sounds like in the MP3. However, I'm a transcribing nub, and writing sheet music for footile's performance (bass part, 2nd time through) is way out of my league. :heh:

Perhaps someone with more musical talent than myself could perhaps give it a shot? I'm going to work on a simple bass for the first playthrough, but if anyone wants to give the 1st and 2nd playthroughs a shot, please do so!

Edit: After watching the video again, I may have an idea of what he does! But, it's much too late to start transcribing now. As soon as school lets out tomorrow, I'll try to do the full-fledged bass part that footile does in his video. No promises it'll be correct, though. :sweat:

Here's an (updated?) version of Grand Fonic Hymn. It has the bass for the 2nd playthrough. Though, I must admit that it was pretty much impossible to copy footile's performance. I basically watched it a few times, guessed at what he did, and then tried it myself.

I have not played this on my keyboard yet, just made a .mus file for it. (Attached) If anyone has any changes you'd like to make, please do so, and re-post it. My music theory knowledge is next to squat, so I've likely screwed up multiple times. :heh: I'm actually quite embarrased to even post this...

I worked a little more on Grand Fonic Hymn. It's probably not even close to footile, but I believe it sounds better.

Some notes were changed slightly (a step or two) and the bass was changed to all eighth notes rather than all quarter notes. Though this doesn't seem to be what footile does in his video, it actually sounds closer to his performance than my first attempt. Or maybe I'm just sleep deprived. ^_^

Either way, here's a second attempt. I believe it sounds better and more accurate than my previous attachment.

.mus files can be read with Finale NotePad. The newest version (2007) is completely free and can be downloaded from Finale's website. Can't remember it off the top of my head, but if you google "Final NotePad" it should be one of the first links.

I don't have a PDF converter. x_x

On a side note, I'm still working on perfecting Grand Fonic Hymn. I know the bass in the sheet I posted has to be wrong in places, as it just sounds weird to me. I've been learning Mirrors (thanks, KitsuneSqueak!) and I've promised myself to learn a song right after. But, after that, I plan to mess around on the keyboard and see if I can't get Grand Fonic Hymn's bass to sound correct. :sweat:

Sadly, I've finally gotten the chance to sit down and take a second look at Grand Fonic Hymn, and I've made little progress. -_-

I decided to open up my scale repetoire and find which scale footile uses in his performances, and from what I can tell, it's just C Major, which doesn't really help me much. I still haven't fiddled with it on my keyboard personally, but the bass still just sounds wrong on Finale NotePad.

The bass I've written seems boring :heh: but that seems to be the same bass footile uses in his video. Either way, I think this'll probably be my last stab at replicating footile's performances.

Here's one last shot at Grand Fonic Hymn. The bass sounds slightly better, I think. Namco's lyrics for the Grand Fonic Hymn are included on the first go-round, for those who like to sing while playing. :sweat:

Edit: Note, this "arrangement" if you will is still very rough. I would personally recommend Mystearica's (Page 5)

His right-hand part is extremely similar to KitsuneSqueak's Mirrors, and the bass doesn't seem to change around too much. Only problem: the video and audio is off, so what I hear isn't what I see.

I'm not that good at Piano, but I played through it right hand at a bit slower than it should be (but hey I've only had the piece for a day and only tried it a bit) but in the right hand everything seems to be right, good job, I tried Mirrors a little bit but it just sounds a bit off... I guess just because normally it's played with bells.

Okay, so far, I believe all is correct. The very bottom notes are guesses, since I can't see his pinky in the video, but it sounds correct. Now, the rest of the song (except for a few select measures) is played with those same exact chords found in the opening that I did.

Problem: I'm a transcribing newb and I can't get the timing correct after the opening. :sweat: Could anyone else possibly try to continue on with Meaning of Birth? The notes are the same as the chords, they're just played one-at-a-time after the opening. Almost all the notes you need for the bass are in the opening.

I simply can not get the bass to work correctly, so I'm gonna have to pass this along to someone else... :\

I really hate to burst everyone's bubble, but footile is driving me up a wall with his left-hand part.

I went back and tried the bass again. I deleted my progress from yesterday, and started anew, hoping that would fix something. I think I've played footile's video hundreds of times over the past few hours. @_@ His bass just doesn't seem to fit into the sheet music. (Then again, he said he doesn't use sheet music...)

I really hate to quit stuff when I start it, but this is way over my league. Grand Fonic Hymn was hard for me :blush: and Meaning of Birth is much faster paced. There are some very talented transcribers here at Ichigo's, but I'm not one of them.

**If anyone else is interested in trying, I'll post what I've done in Finale so far. If you don't have Finale, but you want to give this a whirl, PM me and I'll just get screencaps and PM you the notes I've gotten so far. Yea, usually when i play the song, I never play with the same chords. I'm unsure about the chords in the transition from the verse going into the chorus. Usually when i play, I always end up playing something different in the part. If anyone can figure out the exact chords it would be helpful.

Actually, that's my attempt at transcribing Meaning of Birth. I opened up Finale NotePad and just tried to write down the notes footile used in his performance. I got through about the first verse, but the only part the turned out 100% correct was the opening, which is the posted image.

Rather than posting the entire MUS file, I decided to just take a screen cap of the opening I transcribed, and post it here. Unfortunately, my lack of transcribing experience catches up with me after the opening, and it all just kind of jarbled together. :sweat:

I tried starting Meaning of birth...that didn't turn out so well, so I'm working on a much easier transcription (Lloyd - Tales of Symphonia OST)

Bah, you don't have to rush yourself, It's just that I wanted to try and get someone to be working on it, and to my surprise someone already was, thanks in advance.

Done with finals :) I must admit, I didn't really like the later part of footile's arrangement, so the second half deviates quite a bit from his (but remains faithful to the in-game music).

I ran into a problem with Finish the Promise: turns out a couple of measures are in 5/4, and Finale Notepad doesn't support that. I'm thinking about learning NoteEdit to do that one, but that means I'll have to re-enter all of the stuff I've gotten so far =/

I've been wondering which song I want to learn next for a while, but I believe Meaning of Birth just jumped to the top. :lol: It's so tempting for me to drop my current project and just begin playing this.

Alright, I've been playing piano for 10 years, and I know this is trivial, but I'm a stickler.
The measure that had an accidental should have been written with a Bb instead of an A#. When writing in the key of C major, it is much easier to write in flats [and far more proper], especially if it means not having to write a natural for the next note.

As for the bass line, it should be written in chords. I'm currently developing a version with chords for the bass clef, and with my level of experience I can almost perfectly gaurantee you they'll be correct.

Sorry I'm picky, just thought I'd point it out.

Here is my version of the Grand Fonic Hymn. It's not quite finished, but this is just to show Tails Kitsune that the Bb would have looked a bit better.
This version also includes the lyrics in the original language. The words aren't pronounced the way it's written, and if you need help I'll gladly give you the correct way to say/sing them. I tried to see which keys he was pressing, but the audio and video were misaligned, so I got lost rather quickly.

My greatest hopes were that someone would actually come in and polish it up, as you have started to do. My musical theory skills are zip, I'll definitely admit that. Those last three posts you made make absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. :sweat: I know hardly anything about scales, chords, almost nothing about the bass clef, and so on. The only "musical theory" skills I have was from 3 years in middle school band...which, needless to say, is next to squat. I've never claimed to be a great pianist, or a talented transcriptionist, so your statements aren't really insulting me. Music has never been my strong point. However, some of the tone you used while addressing me did make me feel like trash. x_x I'm sure you didn't mean to, but that's how it came across to me...I accept your apology.

As for the mainly blank pages...if you select the Measure Tool (an icon with a whole rest on it) you can select the measures you don't want and press the Delete key and they'll go away. I may not be much help with music, but at least I can help you with the software. :heh:

If you have Guitar Pro, I can e-mail them to you, if you provide me with an e-mail address. Also, I may be able to work on transferring the tab from Guitar Pro 5 to Finale. It's fairly long, though, and school keeps me busy, so it may be a few days. I'll post the Finale file here on the forums once I'm finished.

I do wish that more sheet music existed for Tales of the Abyss, flames2ashes, but the only sheet music I've ever seen for Tales of the Abyss exists right here at Ichigo's.

For those who were asking for the guitar tabs...it's finished! I suppose I should have asked which parts you were interested in before I transferred them to Finale, though. x_x The opening and ending is, of course, the guitar part, but the rest is the vocals. I hope that is what you were after, but if not, please let me know which parts you would like.

**I don't take any credit for this arrangement. The original notes were taken from another's arrangement; I simply transferred the tabs from Guitar Pro to Finale for others to view.
**Played in Drop D Tuning. (Tune down 1/2 step)
**I had to use the Glissando Tool to replicate the sliding effect on the guitar. It's not the same, but it's close; it also sounds a tad silly in Finale.
**The chorus can be simplified; if you'd rather not play both notes, you can play just the higher notes within the chorus, and it sounds just fine. Both notes were added for completion, and to stay true to the original author's arrangement.

As far as I know, there is no quick, easy way to convert a midi to finale.

What I do is to pull up the midi in a program like NoteWorthy Composer. It'll show the notes for the midi, but prints awkwardly unless you purchase the full version.

Once the notes are up in NoteWorthy, it's simply a matter of entering those same notes into Finale. I don't know of any way to click-and-drag; you'll have to enter them manually in Finale.

I can never find sheet music for my instrument D: I can read .mus files, because I have finale notepad. -doubts anyone can get it- Piano would be fine, too, I guess. There were a few composers who worked on Tales of the Abyss, but I do believe Motoo Fujiwara composed the Grand Fonic Hymn. If that's incorrect, the other composer would be Motoi Sakuraba. I still think it's Motoo Fujiwara, though. :heh:

As for the alto saxophone request, I don't believe I can do that. I don't even know what key the alto is in. x_x I don't have any experience with changing keys for instruments, as I've only played piano and a bit of clarinet, so I wouldn't know how to go about it. I'm sorry I can't help, but maybe a more musically knowledged member can help you...

You could use "Meaning of Birth" or something similar. It has the same tune and should have the same key. I think it's 6 flats/sharps. There are so many it doesn't matter. >D

heres a karma arrangement i did. being a big fan of tales of symphonia for gamecube, i got this game last week for my ps3, and fell in love with the opening. I tranmscribed this up quick, and im working on a video now.

overall, it was very hard to capture the original fullness of the song on piano only, and certain things had to be sacrificed. Though, all and all, im pretty happy of how it came, especially considering theres only so much a piano and one person can do. I hope you enjoy it!

Finale Notepad works similarly to Adobe Reader. You can view the sheet music and print it, though it also has a playback feature. So, for those of us who don't sightread so well (me!! :heh: ) finale allows you to see the sheet music while listening to it. I've found it helpful and would recommend downloading it, as it has become quite a popular program to write out sheet music.

The newest version can be downloaded for free: Finale Notepad 2008 (http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/)

The .mus files are for Finale. I also tried going to the link listed for the "Opening" of Tales of the Abyss and it said the file was incorrect. However, when I opened it up in Finale, it didn't seem to be Karma.

I'm not 100% sure the range of the instrument can handle all the notes, but it can always be 8va'ed down.

I take no credit i took Tempest's version and transposed it from F# Major (6 sharps) to suit the Eb alto sax....

well. as said, im VERY close to completing the arrow was shot. i just dont really like the way it tuned out for solo piano. It was a hard song to capture the originals intensity. plus, the drums really move the song, and i can only replicate drums on piano so much... mainly what ive been doing with it is expirementing with different rythmns, seeing which sounds best

also very close to completing "a tragic decision" from tales of vesperia. that one is very nice so far :)

I tried to put the rhythm in finale but I'm not very good at it.

I DO know that its in 4:4 time, if you want the notes though, I'll be happy to provide

As an update, I had 5, count them, FIVE projects to do on the weekend...I'll try to work on it soon but I really suck at interpreting rhythms and transposing them -__-"

The rhythm feels off in many different places because
1) I play by ear
2) I have never made sheet music before that was IN time
3) This is my first sheet >_>

So, you'll have to do a lot of editing most likely, sorry! :P

heh. it was a challenge for me too. the song has an extremely ODD rythmn. it was pretty difficult even for me. but its done now, just need to work on the intro a bit and add the chord stuff.

as for the arrow was shot, like i said, its seriously been there for about 2 months now. I am just stuck in like 2-3 spots.... and they are giving me the worst case of arrangers block EVER. ill try to plow through the blocks. I MUST PREVAIL.

unfortunately, i cant gaurantee ill prevail entirely in that song. for once, a song may best me. it just ddnt translate as well to piano as i hoped it would... :(

though, it would probably sound great on the flute or any single staff instrument

hmm. well. i found out how to make pdfs. (FINALLY) and was thinking about making pdfs for all my sheet music. but i did over 110 sheets now (woo) so it would be too boring and tedious to do them all. Ill make a pdf for karma though. since that is requested.

Flute is a C instrument, so you can just copy the Treble Clef part from piano :D

I need some help coming up with the notes for Overflowing Emotions, Reunion. I have no skill whatsoever in coming up with notes for songs, but I came up with the first part for the right hand so yeah...

Vesperia is NOT better than abyss. It's inferior in every way other than graphics IMO.

And I'll try... TRY to make the tabs. But don't count on me finishing it at all, or doing it well.

Alrighty. So I'm new here and already posting a sheet music, although I'm not very sure if this thread is dying or not. It's not any of the sheet music anyone has posted yet (I've checked the entire thread, I swear), so I thought some people would be happy.
First of all, this is the first time I'm transcribing something. It's not easy, not perfect. I'm posting it here to ask for help as well, so that I can learn and get better ^^ But I did my best, I swear lol.
It's Overflowing emotions - reunion -. I do believe some people wanted it, so here goes! And I'll be posting the mp3 as well so that if someone wants to see all my mistakes and tell them to me, at least that person will have the song to base on it (my english isn't perfect either, not my native language, sorry ^^")
