I wasn't too sure where to post this, so somebody please move it if I didn't post in the right place....
Anyway, I was wondering if its possible to:
1. Switch the melody line in a piano sheet (or any other sheet) to a different instrument
2. Change clefs anywhere in the sheet music
I have a bunch of piano sheets that I'd like to switch the melody lines to a cello part so I could play them, so I was just wondering if its possible. =) If it helps at all, I'm using finale 2007. Thanks in advance! ^^

Finale 2007, or Finale NOTEPAD 2007?
BTW, this question should probably have been asked in the "Composition Program Help" (http://forums.ichigos.com/showthread.php?t=1209) thread. The question has probably been answered there already.

Notepad- the free version that you can download.
Finale- the $500-600 version that has a bunch of stuff.
If you're using Notepad, you can't do any of that.
If you're using Finale:
For your first question, you can copy and paste. Just use the "Mass Edit Tool" (the "square tool"), right click copy, and paste where you want it.
For your second, look for a bass clef. Click at the first measure where you want the switch, and it gives you options ;) .

But I'm guessing since you didn't know the difference that you are just using notepad...

Well, if its the free one, then I'm using notepad. ^^;
So you definatly can't do clef changes in notepad? Is there another free/cheap program that can?

Download the Free Trial (30-day) of Finale Printmusic ( http://www.finalemusic.com/printmusic ). After that, you can pay $100 for it. It's as cheap as it gets.

I meant is there another program that isn't made by the same company that makes finale, since those are really expensive. O_O $100 is better than $600, but its still too much.............

Hello Zippy...if you're still having trouble in this respect, I may have a solution. It was driving me mad,and i couldn't believe there was no clef transpose function, so....(wanting to render the same music suitable for viola and violin)
I opened separate boxes for viola and violin in the same key etc. and entered the music for violin. Then I did a mass select copy and pasted to the viola part which came out correctly.
If you have not already found this, I hope it works for you

I already tried that.......when i copied the piano melody into the cello part, it didn't change clefs, it had a million ledger lines. T_T

Hey Zippy, the problem is that it changed clefs but it is trying to play the same notes. Do you mean that took it from the treble clef and then put it into base clef? If so, all you need to do is move everything down an octave or two and it should be fine. About changing clefs anywhere in a piece, yes you can do that with i think the clef toolbar. Just make sure that you are playing in the right register get what i am saying? If you need help, send me one piece and i will do it for you so that you might be able to understand.

No, I was asking if there was a clef change tool in notepad. It doesen't matter though, because I've decided to buy printmusic, which has everything I need. ^^

Yeah, but it doesn't let you change the clef mid-song.

You have to have the clef tool chosen, then double click on the measure where you want tne new clef to be. if you want it to start at the beginning of the measure you picked, just pick the clef and you're good to go, but if you want it to be in between the notes in the measure, you have to click the bullet that says "Create a movable mid-measure clef", then click ok, and you can drag the clef wherever you want.
As for the changing the instrument, if you want to change it for an entire staff, You'll probably have to create a new document with the instruments you want, add measures so its the same as the other file, and then you can use the Mass edit tool, click on a clef at the beginning of a staff, it highlights the entire staff for you, and drag it over to the other document
hope that helps!
Edit: what the hell just post the file I'll do it for you

:P Finale Notepad can't do that. Only the $400-600 version can.

It's possible that other versions of Finale like printmusic and stuff can, too (I've never tried them, though). Also, you do NOT have to spend $400 dollars on it! It's possible to get it for much cheaper if you're a good shopper.

^Yep. It is. But the "mid-measure" clef option on the clef tool, Finale can only do that. (Price was just an estimate).

You know, you could have just used the edit tool instead of double posting.
